Today in history, August 24, 1919, Harold Lloyd lit what he thought was a prop bomb but instead it was a real one that blew off his thumb, one finger (and a half) and also temporarily blinds him. He heals well though and continues performing his own stunts with a modified hand brace in future hit films.
