Brutus’s entire lore is very lengthy so I might end up doing a seperate post about their backstory specifically,,,but the main important stuff to know abt them and sabo:

Brutus is very timid and reserved, they can find it sometimes difficult to voice something they want due to inferiority related issues. They’re not one to talk much in fear of taking up the space, granted they were raised in a very abusive household and manipulative religious parents (until the age of 13 where they ran away).

Despite that, they’re very playful and can be quite blunt at times because of their stunted approach and understanding of socialising. They have a lot of feelings bottled up inside…they’re bound to spill out bit by bit…

I want to mention: Brutus and Sabo’s relationship is also very much built upon its queerness and how Brutus’s experience with faith very much affects that. At a young age, internalised homophobia and transphobia had been installed so deep rooted within them, they still feel disgusted for being “disgusting” for “desiring” Sabo in such a way, due to toxic religious experiences. But despite everything they still strive to be benevolent and do good deeds. They push to become a better person every single day and that’s what’s key to them ^^

Sabo had saved Brutus at the beginning of the timeskip (around right after marineford), and had took them in while they were bleeding out on a random shore. In the beginning Brutus was quite nervous and sketchy of everyone, and this version of Brutus was very emotionally inept with themselves so they don’t regulate emotions healthily 😢 Sabo is very blunt with them, but not when its not necessary, for what he assumes is an ex veteran soldier who had only known violence and war their whole life he could only show them gentleness and care. Feelings had developed when Brutus saw Sabo as pretty as the most prettiest person they knew (their adoptive mother), and loves him because he had never treated Brutus differently from an equal.

They pretty much hit it off right away, and got along fairly quickly as soon as they both started to trust each other more, and Brutus had started to show their true colours that Sabo had no idea about. They both loved each others kindness and their attentive nature to details, and they had always loved the very little things about each other. Sabo had always been a bit brash and sometimes rude, but it shows Brutus a humans perfection cannot lack flaws, and that they are not alone in their flaws. In return, Brutus was not afraid to challenge Sabo’s status and character, more than most people in the army would even dare, and it’s because of this trust in each other they felt brave enough to express such thoughts to him.

They are each others anchor, Brutus was lost in their identity and built their value on perceptions from others while Sabo had pulled them in to remind them of who they really are and that theur identity is for them to decide. In turn, they had always reminded Sabo of what he’s fighting for, and what he has and grounds him of the domestic life far away from the stress of revolution. There’s a sanctuary in their relationship in which they find their love pooling in. Unconditional love is a big thing for them 🩵 they try their hardest to make their relationship an equal safe space for the both of them despite their own struggles and upbringings that tends to hinder their honesty at times 💔

Now Sabo is infamously known to dislike being treated special,,, and even dislikes being put on such a high pedestal, but with Brutus it’s nothing like that whenever they put him on a pedestal. It’s not a way to belittle themselves, but more so to acknowledge the fact their relationship is special and unique to the both of them BECAUSE they’re equals, because sabo treats them as such. They love eachother effortlessly because it comes natural to them, it’s natural to love patient and kind people that have so much in common and yet are so different.

I bet I have more stuff in mind but rn its like 3 am and I don’t remember the other stuff…besides I believe i can explain their dynamic a lot more better in art form :) so stay tuned!
