Because if you think about it, Custard really should not be this much of an asshole if he did come from the Vanilla Kingdom, considering who the leader is and the fact his family is so important. From a young age, he could've likely had everything he could ever want, yet he's now so desperate in keeping his family legacy alive to where he's become a bitter and manipulative dictator? How do you get raised in a kingdom who's leader literally mastered a magic based around light and care, and end up becoming so cruel and detached? Did the rest of House Custard not survive and he ended up being the only one to flee? Did he think himself as the last remaining Custard and (in thinking that) become dead set on securing his family's name so that they don't die forgotten? Or is he just born evil without any catalyst, a cookie only sweet in flavor and not in heart?

Firstly I headcanon Custard was Premier Custard Cream’s LITTLE brother. I don’t believe they ever say this anywhere, but I’m basing it off of how Premier Custard Cream looked quite old, Vanilla Sugar was younger in those flashbacks and now she appears old, likely older than Custard. Soo I imagine that while his brother was Premier, Custard himself was a little guy.

And as a little guy… I think he was like his great nephew. My headcanon is that Custard III gets his desire to become royalty like his family from Custard (likely the first, with Custard III’s father probably being Custard II). Basically, baby Custard was another Custard III, going around bragging about how his brother is Premier Custard Cream so he’s actually ROYALTY!

And while I love Custard III and he is surrounded by loving cookies so I believe he will turn out to be a fine leader, Custard is a worse version of how Custard III could’ve turned out to be. He took his pride in his royal heritage all the way to the island the Vanillians fled to, couldn’t accept his kingdom that would’ve one day been his disappearing, and swore to return glory to his royal name.
