Poetry Post:]
We All Deserve Sunshine
Opening Words:
Recently it feels like my country has made a recession in how it feels about and treats people like me; queer people, individuals in the LGBTQIA+ community, maybe a little bit of the world too. It's scary, I mean I really thought we were growing up and out of the homophobia and transphobia, but maybe I was mistaken. But just because some people don't understand us szxdoesn't mean that we don't deserve the right to be happy.
We Deserve Sunshine
We deserve to be happy.
We deserve peace.
We deserve to be able to not be scared. Be scared to be belittled, bullied, beaten, killed; because of who we may happen to love or not love, because we might identify as a different gender than assigned at birth or the gender we may lack, because of who we may be.
We deserve the same rights as you. The right to donate blood, the chance to save a life. The right to marry, at the altar, hand in hand, happy with tears of joy, showing our love to the world. The right to be free, walking hand in hand down the street, not hiding who we are because of fears. The right to merely exist, the same as you do.
We deserve to be open about who we are and celebrate who we are, no restrictions, no lies.
We are no different from you, you see, we love, we hurt, we are human too. Don’t you see? We're not all that different.
We deserve sunshine.
To not be hidden, to be able to bloom in that sunshine, to bask in it.
We deserve to glimmer and shine in that light, right out in the open like we’ve always been meant to.
We. Deserve. Sunshine.
