Lando Norris winning this championship will actually be terrible for Formula 1 as a sport because it will give credence to those who claim "it's just the car".
Let's be realistic, if Lando wins this year, that would mean that a driver who:
1) didn't win a race after 5 seasons in F1, then won 1 circumstantial win, then didn't win again, despite a few different opportunities and only won again in a highly upgraded car that was so fast it won the race by the largest margin of the season,
2) scored one pole position in more than 5 season of F1 and only started scoring more with the fastest car,
3) is often enough being outperformed by his much younger teammate who has 4 seasons less Formula 1 experience than him;
4) can't start a race without losing at least 1 position, consistently compromises his own race by going off track, even gaining penalties for doing it too often & making other rookie errors;
- will recieve an award for being the best amongst this specific category of 20 drivers, many of whom outperformed him and made less mistakes, but were in inferior cars. Say what you will about Max but not only did he prove himself many times over long time before he sat down in that RB19, he also made the most of having such a dominant car. He made it look easy.
