Sinnoh's Legend

     Honestly, she’s surprised she knows anything that Dawn doesn’t but… hell, impressing a pretty girl? Never a bad thing. May clears her throat lightly, a blush blooming on her cheeks as she musters up a smile of her own.

     “W-Well, uh… I-I mostly know stuff about Johtoan lore b-but I can totally tell you about that stuff!” Cue a quick clear of her throat as she rubs at the back of her head. “Lots of our culture is really… nature-y, I guess? The region has a really long history of being tied to the land and the Pokemon. Heck! It’s actually pretty normal for people back home to not keep their partners in pokeballs.”

    Dawn stares at the apricorn-pokeballs in amazement. That really was a piece of history there. “W-Wow... that’s amazing!” Dawn says, as if the hollowed out apricorn was the most fascinating thing in the world right now.

      “Think about it... customs like this might be proof that Johtoans were the very first people to use any kind of Pokeball. That right there... it’s like ancient custom being passed down through the generations, you’re holding a piece of history in your hands!” 

     “April Fools is a holiday where you’re supposed to try to pull jokes over on people. Way back when, the calendar used to start at the beginning of spring but it eventually changed to January… so people who were still going by the old calendar were called April fools. Or, uh… somethin’  like that.”

    Dawn just stares at May for a while, seemingly lost in thought. “Did... did you just cite a fact about history that I was not aware of? I... I did not even know about this tradition. I need to research it!” 

    She brightens up suddenly, smiling brightly at May. “You actually know some things! That’s amazing! What other cool historical facts have you been holding out on me with? Do you know about any Hoennite or Johto... an traditions? Is that the right word, Johtoan? What’s a cool custom from Johto?!”

     “Eh…? Do they not celebrate April Fools in Sinnoh?” May inquires with a light tilt of her head. Not that she knew too much about cultures outside of Johtoan in the first place—- Hoennite normalcy was something she was still getting used to. That aside, she hadn’t really considered that there were places that didn’t celebrate it to begin with…

     “... well, now that you mention it. A lot of other children did similar things when I was younger. I did not really understand it then either,” Dawn frowned, rubbing the side of her head.

     “I always assumed they were just bullying me. And Barry is always pulling pranks, so it is not like the first day of April I would notice anything different... that is just Barry being Barry.”

“Quite a tumble ya took there.” 

Funny timing. White hadn’t meant to run across anyone right now. Maybe not today at all. She’s been distracted by her own thoughts, not exactly in a bright mood, but not bad either. On edge, she supposed. 

     When she was offered a hand, Platina took it. Tilting her head slightly, “Ah... thank you... “ there was a moment when Platina narrowed her eyes, squinting at the girl.

       “D-Dawn, please,” she raised her hands slightly, wanting to comfort the girl with more than words- which could be taken as empty- but unsure how to. “That isn’t what I meant. It isn’t that you are not good enough! And-and your age is only part of the factor. I just don’t…”

      “Y...You... just... “ Dawn stood up abruptly, eyes full of pain and tears as she stared at Cynthia. This wasn’t going how she had expected or wanted at all. She could barely hear Cynthia’s words anymore, she was just too distressed to listen rationally. 

     “J... Just s-stop, stop talking, you already said I w-wasn’t good enough, I d-don’t need to hear anymore... “ she cried, her voice shaking with her tears. Too distraught to really listen to Cynthia or think rationally.
