Gabriel let out a groan when someone began poking at him as soon as he made the decision to curl up on the bench. His eyelids were heavy and he found himself having trouble opening them even just slightly in order to look at the woman. The effects of the sedative may have been delayed but they were certainly strong. When his eyes finally did open, if only just slightly, his vision was foggy and when he tried to speak, his voice was groggy. The man had some trouble forming sentences due to sleep filling his throat but after clearing his throat, he figured that he could at least try to get a few words out in response.
âIllegal?â he questioned, a bit confused with what she was saying. Gabe planted his hands on the bench and used whatever strength he had in his current state to push himself back up to sitting position. Damn, all he really wanted was just a few minutes of sleep so that he could get himself back home. âLive?â His head felt like it weighed one hundred pounds and just the act of thinking was hard. âFar away, I live far away.â he managed because, hey, it was true. âAnd I donât know how to get there.â Also true. But mainly, at the moment, he couldnât remember where the hotel was.
Robinâs eyes studied him, in case there was any sign of poisoning or drugs. She didnât want to invade his private bubble any more than necessary, and she was worried about the stranger, maybe she should call the cops or an ambulance. The worst-case scenario was that the man would have to get to the hospital and she would have to vouch for him, there were worst things, but she didnât let her mind go any further than that. A relieved sigh escaped her lips as she noticed that the man was coming to his senses, not the whole five of them, but maybe just enough so she could help him.Â
âIllegalâ, she repeated with a nod, getting up and sitting next to him on the bench. She looked at her watch and bit her lower lip, she would need heavy concealer for the bags she would have under her eyes tomorrow. âFar... away...â, she nodded and frowned, trying to come up with a plan. âCan you get home by taxi or...? I guess you could crash at mine if you donât remember where to goâ, it wasnât much, but he could sleep on the pull-out couch. âIâm going to need your help, do you think you can walk? I live two blocks awayâ, and she was sure she wasnât going to be able to carry or drag him on her shoulders.Â
