The volcanic rock has cracks in it, and the cracks have been filled with new minerals - anhydrite, the multicolored ones, quartz, the white and gray smaller ones, and pyrite, the opaque black spots. The upper right corner also shows greenish stuff surrounding black pyrite and white/gray quartz. That greenish stuff (GSC) is green clay that formed when the original surrounding volcanic glass de-vitrified (crystallized) into minerals.

We’re Engaged!

Two weeks ago, while we (Andrew and Joe) were in Michigan, the Supreme Court handed down their decision in Obergefell v. Hodges. It was Friday, June 26, 2015 and both of us were excited as we had previously talked about wanting to get married…someday. Sitting together, having watched the SCOTUS blog giving live updates and facebooking in excitement, we were experiencing so many things. Knowing that we had the right to get married and obtain all of the legal benefits that go with that, we were feeling relieved and exhilarated. We were trying to get dressed and go to brunch but we were too enthralled with the decision and celebration to be moved. The conversation went something like this:

Andrew: (something unrelated to the following conversation)

Joe: …Do you want to marry me?

Andrew: Wait, did you just propose?

Joe: I’m not sure! (Joe’s such a smooth and charismatic individual…)

It wasn’t expected and certainly not planned, so neither of us knew what to do with it.

As we ate brunch, Andrew looked over to Joe and asked, “Do you want to marry me?” Joe immediately said yes and so we started discussing engagement, what that meant to us, and how we were going to proceed. While our proposal was not a “fairy tale” kind of proposal, it was typically us. (which, honestly, is even #betterthanafairytale) One thing we’ve said from the beginning is that this relationship is going to be done on our terms, in our time, and in our weird/unconventional/beautiful way.

We welcome you to the journey and thank you for being such a wonderful part of our lives. This blog is going to be periodically updated with pictures, various stories and thoughts, and possibly a video or two, so that you can follow along on our journey toward this milestone in our lives. Love wins!

Small wonder that Three Ages feels like a glorified two-reeler when it was filmed to be split up as three two-reelers in the off-chance that people couldn't handle a feature-length Buster Keaton film.
