June 2017 Album Feature
For many of us, June marks the beginning of the summer season. I have been looking forward to the warm weather, camping and beach days, but I also canât wait to hear all the latest summer jams! No road trip or sunbathing session is complete without a playlist full of your favorite tracks, am I right?
Here we feature a few new albums released during the month of June.
IMAGINE DRAGONS Album: Evolve Released: 06/23/17
This is a fun place to start! âEvolveâ is filled with sure-to-be hits that will make excellent additions to your summer playlist. You have probably heard âBelieverâ and âThunderâ on the radio (or plug.dj of course) and they are great, but the majority of the songs on this album could just as easily have been hit singles. We are used to hearing alternative rock/pop music from these folks, and theyâve still got it, but here they have been exploring a hip-hop sound. If you are an Imagine Dragons fan you will likely enjoy this album, and I believe there is a song here for everyone.
LORDE Album: Melodrama Released: 06/16/17
Lorde has sort of established herself as an angsty pop princess, and this album holds true to that title. She has a way of communicating through her music that makes her oddly relatable. âMelodramaâ is a healthy mixture of âmelodramaticâ ballads featuring her emotional vocals, and some radio pop jams. Hereâs one:Â
KATY PERRY Album: Witness Released: 06/09/17
Katy Perry has done it again! She is back with a number of summer anthems for your playlist. This album sounds a lot like classic pop Katy, but she had a ton of other great artists working with her (Purity Ring, Sia, Nicki Minaj, etc.) and you can really feel their influences.
BA WarriorCatsRox says: Katy Perryâs fifth studio album Witness is filled with the perfect blend of Pop music and EDM. She has a wide range of different rhythms to the songs on her album and each song has its own unique meaning. âInto Me You Seeâ is a song that is very peaceful and motivational while âSwish Swishâ is a song that is very upbeat. The album cover is a picture of her eyes covered by her hands and an eye in her mouth. The look of this album cover reminds me of how she witnesses the world through her voice as a singer. Overall, I really enjoyed this album and thought it was one of her best albums so far.
BONE THUGS Album: New Waves Released: 06/23/17
It looks like Bone Thugs has dropped the Harmony for this album. Bizzy Bone and Krayzie Bone are the two members behind Bone Thugs and have collaborated with some other great rap and hip hop talents including but not limited to: Bun-B, Stephen Marley, Yelawolf, Tank, and even features a track with the lead vocalist and guitar player of metal band âKornâ. Funk, hip-hop, soul, rap; âNew Wavesâ is definitely worth listening to if you like a good variety.
ROYAL BLOOD Album: How Did We Get So Dark? Released: 06/16/17
Royal Blood has quickly risen to the top of the rock charts and if youâve missed them, donât worry, this is only their second album. âHow Did We Get So Darkâ is a clear expression of these brit rock geniuses perfecting what they do best. We hear some of the same classic type riffs we have heard from them before, and we also get a heavy dosing of bass guitar and DRUMS!!! Listen!:
LONDON GRAMMAR Album: Truth Is A Beautiful Thing Released: 06/09/17
London Grammar has blessed us with this extremely chill album, stocked with poetic lyrics, graceful piano sounds and Hannah Reidâs powerful vocals. The deluxe version of this album is 1 hour and 19 minutes long, so grab your headphones and get ready for an emotional ride. I foresee a bright future ahead for this trio.
Honorable Mention
Christina Grimme, a popular Youtube star and contestant on American television show âThe Voiceâ was killed in June 2016 by a gunman after one of her concerts in Florida. âAll is Vanityâ, a remixed album of her recordings was released to honor her life one year after her death. It is inspiring, empowering, allows closure for her fans and is a great celebration of life.Â
Thanks for reading, stay tuned for next month featuring Lana Del Rey, Haim, Foster The People and more! Let us know what albums you would like to see next on the blog! Have a sunny July!!!
*This is coming a little late, but look for July features in EARLY August!
