Sometimes the quiet can be quite... disquieting. There has never been a time in Vi's life that she could say was peaceful, at least never for long. And yet the war is over, Ambessa and Viktor are dead. The threat is gone. She has food security, she has a home, she has a family again. Why can't she feel fully at rest? A part of her knows she's being ridiculous, that she should enjoy the tranquility, that peace is obtainable. That she is safe right now, that she is loved.
One day she will be able to realize it fully without feeling guilty about it. But Jinx and Vander still haunt her.
Vi was ready to ditch Caitlyn the moment she sprung her from Stillwater. Not because she was ungrateful, she was incredibly grateful, but Caitlyn was an Enforcer and Vi never had good experiences with Enforcers. Even Vander's acquaintance, Grayson, had come for them in the end, even if she seemed reluctant to do so. Caitlyn had proven she wasn't like the others, and that she was more than just an excellent shot. She cared. About the Undercity, about people, about her. Vi can't pinpoint when she started to fall in love, it could have been several points, and yet it feels like she's been in love with her since before they met. Like they have been connected longer than they ever knew. Whatever it is, they're here now, and they're going to make it work. They're going to prove Zaun and Piltover can work together, can be at peace.
Vi leans away when Caitlyn moves in, not in aversion, but to give her room to do whatever she's doing. But Vi's eyes aren't on the monitor, not at first. They're on Caitlyn's features. There's a certain look she gets on her face when she's focusing on her next words, brows might furrow a little, eyes narrowing in concentration, lips pursing. If Vi's being completely honest, she finds it incredibly attractive. As if there's ever a time she doesn't find Caitlyn attractive.
The mention of Jinx has Vi's attention snap back to the monitor. Missing, not died. Caitlyn never uses that word when it comes to Jinx. For the longest time, Vi assumed it was because she was still grieving and didn't want to make Vi's pain worse. Now she's beginning to wonder if Caitlyn knows something she doesn't. As Caitlyn continues, Vi leans in, eyes narrowing in on where Caitlyn's finger indicates. "Cait..." her throat suddenly feels dry, like she can't find the words she needs to say. Her tongue is seized and unwilling and her mind is racing. Caitlyn says something else but she completely misses it. "Cait, are you saying my sister is alive?"
