so the Watchers got bored and went searching into his past right? And they saw a thing called 'crazy' and 'insane' craft within his code...

And decided to BRING IT BACK.

I see cannon joel as a sort of hive mind- in his head he basically has a whole massive city of every joel that has ever been. Certain Joels will have much more influence on the environment and city then other joels depending on how 'popular' they are. For example- Wild Life Joel would be pretty important and thus he would have a section of the city dedicated to a sort of fighting arena as Joel is very good at pvp and such. Priest of Jeremy Joel would have some churches around where all the Joel's can go and pray and stuff- new addition Stratos Joel finally allows them to have more turn one type of church they can attend to if they want :D

So basically it's a massive sprawling city beyond comprehension and it's all in his minds eye. Floating above the city are they 'main' Joels. Hermitcraft Joel and Misadventurs Joel are the two currently active because they are the series he's working on! How I envision it is them being in the center of these big ol seed pod/gem looking things that float hundreds of thousands of miles above the sky- and are also massive.

I imagine every player has this sort of mind scape but Joel is a weird case because where he has a city, others just have floating pods sort of like a lab. All im neat little rows and columns and all labeled. His get to roam and build and all that stuff. This brings me to my next idea which is that beings of the void can look into these voids and see all the versions of that player. This is how I imagine Evil Xisuma gets the helsmits. They jumped into each hermits void and just chose a version to yoink.

So imagine their shock when they goes into Joels void to collect a hels for him when instead of seeing all these pods and lables they instead sees an absolutely massive city and it is populated by hundreds of Joels. Hippogriff Joel goes soaring by chasing Wyvern Joel in a game of who can fly better, X-life joels run amock, Mezelea King Joel is building with his army of terracotta solders nearby, it's a absolute mess! So they go stumbling about in this city searching for someone to tell them what is going on right now when he knocks straight into a Joel. (Whatever adaptation of Joel is your choice but personally I like the idea of it being Blaze Joel) and he just decides to take that Joel and get the hels (hehe) out of there. And thats how Hels Joel came to be.
