I've been thinking about what to write about this season. Unfortunately as expected they totally ruined this season in the second part of it. I am not necessarily someone who thinks that couples need to end up together to have a good story (which I wrote about in my previous post). However, the way this season was written was unnecessarily cruel. If that's how they wanted to end season 9 then Ep5, flashbacks, parallels, symbols should've never happened. That luring was so cruel and horrible. (At this point I really don't care what's going to happen in S10). They wanted them to be broken up? Fine. But why did they need to manipulate their audience so badly? Seriously, what was the reason? After Ep5 I wish they would've shown them working on their issues actively and showed them learning how to communicate better. That in fact would've been groundbreaking. What did Bilal say? "It's easier to damage than repair". Yeah, I am looking at you writers. It's way easier to break a couple than to actually show them working on their issues. That was a problem in Fatou's season (the Kieutou break-up in Ep8 was super unnecessary), in Cris's season (Skam Espana) and that was a problem in Maya's season. They've decided to write them this way. Mayla had unhealthy beginnings but the way they were written in the later seasons was new writers’ deliberate choice. And that choice looks odd when we compare Mayla to the couples from S7&8. Just saying...
I am also extremely disappointed because I really had seen so much potential in the first part of the season which imo was just wasted.
The only plus I can give them is that Maya’s character was written quite consistently and I was really interested in analysing her. It was cool to finally have a main that was a little more closed off. (cinematography, music and acting as usual were top class, it’s a pity that their writing is lacking similar level)
