A little intrigued that this whole blog is about omega red and i just wanted to ask, what are your arkady headcanons or maybe omegatooth headcanons?
Ngl i love how you talk about omega red like hes an.. ACTUAL character. most people don’t even bat a singular eye at him or just mention him when wolverine is involved. quite annoying.
Yup, this blog is all about Arkady and has been since I started posting here, which I think was about two or three years ago already. He's a character that I really fell in love with and came to understand when I was at a very low point of my life during the COVID years and aftermath when he was appearing in the Krakoa X-force comics. Those comics were a real lifeline for me and gave me a lot of hope during that time. Because if Omega Red -- who had been chasing that carbonadium synthesizer for decades -- was finally able to get the thing that he was seeking, get some stability, and was able to do what he wanted for once, then I had a chance at a better life too if I held on just a little bit longer. It was inspiring, and I will never forget how those comics changed me.
I really do try to talk about him as his own person, because he is so much more than just a Wolverine villain, which he really only is one because of one bad day. There are aspects to him that I always believe are worthy of exploring as his own person, and the comics he does appear in tell more about him and the way he goes through life than a lot of people care to think about.
I also know that there are just not many spaces at all on the internet where people can talk about Omega Red in a deeper way like this or a resource people who like his character can go to in order to get more information, news, and the occasional funny. So keeping this space consistently his is very important to me because I know it is important to the small core of fans he has. A lot of his fans, I have come to find, are from the younger and upcoming generations, which is not only super cool to see, but also the generation that could benefit from handing down the knowledge that I have the most.
So, headcanons. I will admit, I don't do the most with omegatooth for a few different reasons, but I do see that it is his most popular ship and that other people do enjoy it. So I'll start with some personal headcanons for just Arkady and see if that gets some cobwebs loose to toss a few headcanons for omegatooth for you.
I believe that he is originally left-handed and he learned to be ambidextrous as part of his training/over time using his coils. So every once in a great while if a person sees him writing, they might be surprised to see him using his left hand.
He hates dogs and wolves. It's possibly a phobia, but at the very least Arkady is definitely far more traumatized by them than he cares to admit. I could really dive into this one, but long and short, dogs were among his first victims he ever had to kill, so they represent to him not only that first step down that path that ruined his life, but an innocence that he himself lost that hurts him to see now. That and those animals were used to train/torture him or track him down whenever he tried to escape from the facility he was kept at before he was altered. He doesn't want them around.
He has a tendency to overheat at night in warmer environments like Krakoa, so he doesn't like sleeping with blankets. The man is a furnace.
He didn't get to watch television until after he woke up in the modern day. Color TV was something that really surprised him when he first saw it, but he enjoys it. His favorite thing to watch is nature documentaries. Everything else... eh, he doesn't really care to watch. Horror movies with serial killers tends to turn into him critiquing the villain and annoy him more than anything else.
He is very aware of how heavy he is, so he is always doing calculations in his head on whether or not something he will be sitting on will support his weight or not. If he is not confident on if it supports him, he will choose to stand because he would not be able to stand the embarrassment of having a chair break on him.
He has a whole routine for cleaning his implants and he enjoys hot showers. He never got those when he was a government weapon, so hot water in his mind is like a blessing from heaven that he really clung to in those early years he was brought back.
His implants cause him headaches. Because they use a computer-brain interface to operate, if there is a day where he is using them a lot, a few hours later or the next day Arkady will have a migraine that makes it hard for him to function. He will often close his eyes and rub his temples to try to alleviate the pain -- so long as no one is watching him. Otherwise, he suffers in silence.
Although he will try not to show when he is struggling with doing something, he had to relearn -- or learn for the first time -- how to do a lot of basic domestic tasks once he was fully on his own. Some of those things he didn't think about needing to do or doing it properly until he started joining teams and he learned through a combination of observation and getting caught doing something wrong and being corrected. He does learn fast though, so he doesn't struggle so much anymore.
He hates socks and refuses to wear them whenever he can. When he is wearing his uniform, he wears portyanki, which are Russian footwraps that were a staple of the Russian military until I believe around 2010. They last far longer than socks do, and they were crucial for him to have in his "survival years."
In his belt pouches, he has bars of Hematogen, which is a chocolate bar from the Soviet Union made from cows' blood. It not only helps him recover from injuries he gets, but it tastes really good and is a creature comfort for him. If he really likes you, he will occasionally share.
He doesn't smoke himself (because the Soviets would never give him anything that they would consider a "treat") but he does have nostalgia for the scent. These days he might occasionally light one up when he is really thinking about his past.
This is more of a personal theory based on several panels than anything that Marvel has really looked at when it comes to Arkady's powers, but I truly do believe that he possesses the ability to give life energy back to a person. The cost is Arkady's own energy reserves, but because of his traumas with his powers, he acts as his own mental hurdle keeping him from using his powers that way (this is another one I could do its own deep dive on).
On this subject, he also has a sort of "parasitic sense" that never turns off, allowing him to always be aware of the presence of life around him no matter how small. If his powers get turned off, Arkady freaks out because one of his senses is now completely gone and he can't feel the people around him the way that he is used to. He also uses this sense as a sort of "alarm" when he sleeps, waking up whenever he senses something large approaching him. It's a survival tactic that has served him well over the years.
He can't get bit by mosquitoes or other biting/stinging bugs. His skin was made incredibly durable, which means the little blood suckers can't puncture his skin (unless it's a freaky bug that somebody cooked up in a lab or something). His powers also act as a sort of "bug-zapper" so if there is an incredibly annoying fly buzzing around him, he'll use his powers to kill the thing.
Omegatooth: When he didn't have the C-Synthesizer, Arkady slept alone and as far away from other people as possible so he wouldn't accidentally kill anyone in his sleep with his powers. Tragically, this did include Kotik (who kept trying to go to him and sleep next to him), and when Arkady actually wanted to deep sleep, Victor would take Kotik that night.
Omegatooth: Victor gave Arkady permission to take his life energy when they all lived together so that Arkady wasn't struggling trying to find something to kill to keep his poisoning in check. If Arkady didn't come to Victor "on schedule," Victor would seek him out to make sure he took the energy.
Omegatooth: To Arkady's senses, Victor's life energy feels like a roaring, huge bonfire. A lot of the people with healing factors have that strong life energy signature, but Victor's is one of the stronger and "cleanest" ones compared to Logan's and Deadpool's.
