wine  swirls  within  my  glass ,    legs  crossed  as  i  sit  at  my  desk .   i’m  patient ,   really .    small  sip  taken  as  the  sound  of  sirens  plays  just  outside .    going  the  other  direction ,   of  course   --   no ,   i’d  never  be  so  foolish  as  to  get  caught .   and  it  isn’t  like  they  have  the  time  to  actually  do  anything  about  it ,   either  :      the  bombs  have  long  since  gone  off .    (   the  first  of  them ,    at  least .   others  are  soon  to  follow .  )     a  smile  plays  at  my  lips ,   an  even  gaze  set  at  the  door .    it’s  our  game ,   him  and  i .   a  variant  of  cat  and  mouse ,   only  neither  of  us  are  mice .   he  enters ,   and  my  head  cants  to  the  side ,    tongue  wetting  my  lips  in  preparation  to  speak .      “   detective ,  ”   he’s  too  smart  to  think  that  this  is  all  i  have  done .   he  very  much  knows  what  i  am  capable  of .    but  he  musn’t  worry  his  pretty  little  head  about  such  trivial  things !   not  when  the  look  of  defeat  on  his  face  is  so  thrilling .   this  is  what  we  play  for :   the  highest  of  stakes .    he  wouldn’t  ever  dare  to  admit  it ,    but  we  are  two  sides  of  the  same  coin .     i  set  the  glass  down ,    arms  extending  as  a  welcome  to  a  dear  old  friend .   “   how    thoughtful    for  you  to  join  me .   ”       /     @solvingcrime​
