THE WAY I AM

“Or you should pay attention to your surroundings!”, Jonny countered, his grin becoming even wider as he saw her face turn slightly red. “If it helps, your dancing was cute though!”, he added before giving her a qick kiss. Hearing what she said about the dresser and the closet, the man glanced over his shoulder and at his two bags. “Still not sure if I really need that much space but thanks babe!”, he replied with a little smile after turning his head back towards her.

“sh, don’t make sense.” she retorted with a laugh. Kyra was happy to feel the hotness in her cheeks to subside. “thank you, thank you. What you just saw was years and years of practice. Many hours put into living room dance parties.” She joked as she smoothed down her messy blonde curls. “I’m sure it’ll be fine. It’s no problem.” She smiled once more in direction. “That dance party and cleaning sure has worked up an appetite. Do you wanna grab a bite to eat before we settle you in?” she asked as she heard the low rumble in the pit of her stomach.

One bag full of his stuff slung over his shoulder and another in his hand, Jonny finally arrived at Kyras place. As he already had his key, the man didn’t ring the door bell but let himself in instead. “Kyra?! It’s me!”, he tried to make himself noticeable but quickly realised that the music was a little too loud for that and so he put the bags on the floor and went into the spare bedroom, where he expected to find the blonde. And he had been right with that. Leaning against the door frame, he watched his girlfriend dancing and singing along to the music with a wide grin on his face, as she still didn’t seem to have noticed him. So after watching her another few seconds, the man eventually just clapped his hands with the smirk still on his lips. “Now that’s what I call a great performance!”

It was painfully obvious that Kyra didn’t hear Jonny enter her apartment..their apartment. As the song ended Kyra struck her final pose, chest heaving as her lungs tried to catch up with her. She was brought back to reality as she heard the clapping come from behind her. A quick spin revealed the sound was coming from Jonny. The blonde’s face reddened as a slightly embarrassed smile took form on her face.”you should really put a bell around your neck.” She joked breathlessly. Kyra made her way across the room,pulling him in for a swift peck. “I’ve cleared out the dresser on the left for you and the left side of the closet as well.”

“I won’t, I won’t!”, Jonny assured her, his smile turning into a little grin as he placed a kiss on her forehead. When she asked what he had meant, the man didn’t answer right away but tried to find the right words first. “I mean this just feels so natural, so right. Like it was always supposed to be this way. I mean during the yesrs there have been other girls I really liked as well but it has never felt like this, you know..?!”, he finally said, only glancing back up at her in the end because he somehow felt stupid, like he could never properly put his feelings into words.

“good.” she said simply, a smile on her lips. Her eyes closing briefly as he placed a kiss to her forehead, her smile growing to be embarrassingly huge. Which quickly faltered as he took a moment to answer her question. She knew the one she had asked could have been loaded. She was relieved to finally hear his voice as he spoke. His words assuring.”I get what you’re saying. There have been a few guys over the years but none of them made me feel the way you do. I couldn’t agree with you more. This feels right, you and I.”

“Yeah, I know!”, Jonny replied with another little smile appearing on his face again. If there was anything in his life that he didn’t have any doubts about, then it was that she’d be there for him no matter what. And that immediately managed to calm him down again. “I don’t feel pressured at all, I had actually thought about it as well but I wasn’t sure if you wanted this as well..”, he eventually admitted, “And I’d love to spend every second with you as well so it’s not weird at all. On the contrary. It’s what it’s supposed to be like, isn’t it..?!”

“don’t forget it either.” Kyra replied with a playful wink. The blonde couldn’t take her eyes off him as she looked up, his smile intoxicating to her. “good, I’m glad you don’t feel pressured.” She was also happy to hear that he had been thinking about it as well, it calmed her thoughts of her maybe jumping the gun. “what’s what supposed to be like?” She fished, her features softing to an almost innocent like state.

“Okay let’s not go that far, Kyra, I would say more like an hippie.” He is smiling wildly at the idea. “I’m only coming back to work in three days, I’ve got all the time, if you do.” He replied to her even as he watched her making her way to the cupboard as he spoke, assuming he did have time. “I’m the best drinks buddy, I know” He fakes an overly-confident expression that only lasted a second, though. “Uuh, nothing much happened in Africa to be honest, I volunteered as a doctor to help there, but I opted out at the end of my six months trial, seems like I really am a city boy.” He smirks. “But let’s talk about you, tell me what have you been up to since I left?”

“hippie? Wow. Would have loved to have seen that.” She snickered. “I have plenty of time. Especially for you” she beamed, handing of a glass of whiskey to him. “whoa now. I don’t know. Since you’ve been gone I’ve had to find other drinking buddies. You may have some competition.” Kyra said with a playful shrug. “well that’s very..commendable that you went. I would have kicked your ass for turning down a opportunity like that.” the blonde said with a tilt of her glass. Kyra let out a chuckle as she sipped at the whiskey. “I could have told you that.” His next question threw Kyra for a loop. What was she to tell him? That her and Jonny got back together. How was she supposed to tell him that? oh hi, you said we couldn’t be together so I got back with my ex who happens to be your best friend. Glad you had a great time in Africa! “Same shit different days. Just been working. My work actually was selected to plan the big city wide Halloween party back in October. I was one of the lead planners so that now has made me and the other four planners a hot commodity among the company.” She told him, none of which was technically a lie.

Jackson grinned and pulled out his phone showing her the picture. “Yes, I went modern and something that won’t tarnish.” He hugged her back beaming. “I finally got to propose, it’ll be a long engagement.”

“Jackson, this is stunning. Oh my god.” she cooed as she peered over at the picture.”I’m so happy for you and Hugo. Come on, sit. tell me all about the proposal. I’d love to help out with planning any way I can!”

“Thanks for the offer!”, Jonny replied with a grin, throwing one arm around her waist when she rested her head on his chest. “I probably won’t have much more than two sports bags though, so I won’t need that much space in the closet either..”, he explained, slightly embarrassed by that. Of course, Kyra already knew that he didn’t have that much money or stuff but saying it out loud still wasn’t easy for him. It always made him feel like she was actually way out of his league.

“you know I’d do anything to help you.” she said softly. Kyra snuggled in as close as she could as he wrapped his arm around her waist. “well it’s a pretty small closet and I have a lot of clothes. I’ve been thinking of moving some stuff to the guest room anyways. Now I have an actual reason too.” Kyra was never one to flaunt what she had but as an event planner in NYC she had to look her best at events which meant lots of nice clothes.”you know, I’m really happy you agreed to this. I hope you don’t feel pressured or anything. I just spent ten years not being around you. Now I just wanna be in your presence every chance I get..” she paused, taking in a deep breath. “sorry if that sounded weird but it’s the truth.”

Jackson had been busy with spending time with his fiancé, Hugo. He made plans with Kyra to give her the news and figured they could catch up. He sat at the coffee shop drinking coffee when he saw her. He had an engagement ring that he wore proudly. “K.” He said with a grin as he stood and hugged her. “Hugo and I are engaged.” He said excitedly.

kyra was able to slip out of work early to meet up with Jackson which was a godsend. She was dying at work filling out paperwork and invoices. She quickly made it to the location the two had previously agreed on, a wide grin forming on her face as she saw her friend. “Jack!” She called out, pulling him into a hug. Hearing his news she pulled back, her face shocked. “you’re shitting me. Congrats! Gotta ring?” 

Nathaniel chuckles at first for what she said, but that reaction turns into a harmonious smile as he appreciated the way Kyra never changed no matter how long it had been since the last time they saw each other. “Long hair and untamed beard? I looked more like Jesus than myself, you wouldn’t want to even look at me.” He jokes, stopping at a considerable distance so she would open the gift. He is resting his elbows against the other’s kitchen balcony when she comments on it, making him smile once again. “I would’ve bought you a dress or jewelry, but everything was sold out and I landed yesterday, that’s all I had time for.. but we can crack it open if you want! If you don’t have anyone else you’d rather do that with..?” He tests the waters carefully, wanting to know if Kyra was indeed seeing someone and if so if he should even be staying for a drink or leave the present, wish her happy holidays and go home.

“oh man, that would have been a sight to see. Bigfoot much?” she jokes, her eyes falling to the whiskey bottle in her hands. “this is perfect. I would love to crack it open. Do you have time to stay for a drink?” she questioned as she quickly went to the cupboard to grab two rocks glasses. “you know there’s no one i’d rather share a bottle of highland park with than you.” she mused as she poured the two a glass, aloof to the nature of his question. “Come, sit, tell me all about africa. What were you doing down there exactly?” 

“Good!”, Jonny returned her wide smile when she said that she didn’t plan on going anywhere. Leaning back on the couch with her in his arms, he definitely couldn’t be more happy. Something that was much needed after everything that had happened during the last year. “I’ll start packing my stuff during the next week then..”, he finally said before shrugging with a grin on his face, “Not that it will take particularly long…” He had never been someone who owned many things after all and even though he at least had his own apartment by now, it still hadn’t really changed.

Kyra followed his lead as he leaned back, resting her head upon his chest. The blonde never thought that when she saw Jonny in that bar, when he almost broke her nose with the front door that they’d be right here. Her hand reached out, taking his, her fingers tracing the lines on his palm. “If you need help you know I’ll gladly help.” She mused, her clay blue hues looking up to him as she spoke. “I’ll clear you out a spot in the closet and I’ll clear out the second dresser in my room for you.” she quickly added, her smile soft.

“Not as happy as I am!”, Jonny replied while returning her smile. It currently felt like everything was finally falling into place and so to say he was happy was probably the biggest understatement. “I will, of course I will!”, his smile becoming even wider when he saw the incredibly cute look on her face, the man finally leaned in to kiss her again. “I hope you know that you’re not going to get rid of me again that easily then..?!”, he added with a grin.

Kyra’s smile only grew at his words. Any reservations she had about the two during the whole mess melted away as she looked at his smiling face. Everything just seemed...right in her world now that the two were back together. Like she finally found the missing puzzle piece she lost ages ago. His words relief to her as he said yes to moving in. She welcomed his kiss happily, returning the peck, her smile forever wide. “I didn’t plan on it, loverboy. Just know the same rules apply to me. I’m not going anywhere Jonny.”

His eyes still locked with hers, Jonny had to grin at her words. “I am not feeling obligated. Not at all!”, he assured her, “I’d really love to move in with you. And not just because my apartment is barely bigger than a shoebox..” His grin becoming even wider at the joke, he still couldn’t believe his own luck. Not after the way almost everything had gone wrong during the last years. “Seriously, I’d really want that!”

Kyra was relieved by his words, her demeanor relaxed tremendously as he spoke. “I’m so happy to hear you say that.” She said with a sigh, a smile forming on her lips. Kyra’s hand reached out, taking his free hand into hers giving it a light squeeze as she spoke. Leaning forward she placed a soft kiss on his cheek. Her lips lingering on his face for a second before she pulled away, her bottom lip tucking between her teeth. “let’s do it then. Jonny Mcguire move in with me?”

Seeing her reaction to his words, Jonny immediately knew that it hadn’t exactly been what she had hoped to hear. So taking one of her hands in his, the man moved his head a little so he could look into her eyes. “Hey! I’d love to move in with you, more than anything actually! Whether it’s now or in a few weeks or months, I’d really love to!”, he clarified, trying to forget his own fear for a while and be honest with her. “If that’s what you want I’m all in!”

Kyra clammed up as he took one of her hands in to his. Her eyes carefully watching his as he spoke. “I don’t want you to feel obligated.” She said softly. The thought of the two moving in together had been one that she had day dreamed of when she was a teenager. Now that the moment was here she was slightly nervous. “you’d really want to?”

I know it’s a bit late but I had an amazing holiday season with my love this year. Cant wait to see what the new year brings for us. Happy New Year everyone!!
