Y’all don’t understand what this scene means to me. This Christian girl wearing the flower crown and the white bedsheet was going to murder Piper for not kowtowing to her homophobic bullshit. Like, Piper is out here about to get shanked when the inmate counselor is within ear shot and can see what’s about to go down. Piper calls out for help, and the counselor turns his back and leaves, knowing full well that Piper might die. This is what a lot of Pacifists don’t understand: you can not react in a non-violent manner to someone who is trying to kill you. You have to be able to use the appropriate amount of force to disarm them, and thanks to these fantastic women of color, Piper didn’t die. This scene was everything.

I think that not trusting or being scared of men is normal for most women. And if you’ve ever been raped, abused, harassed, stalked, threatened, coerced, etc by a man or multiple men, it can manifest into hate.

As for “a place romantically”, let me put it like this: I’m terrified of spiders. Like, I’ve fainted from seeing spiders. My ex’s roommate had a pet tarantula, and I hated the thing to bits. Overtime, I began to tolerate her existence, so long as she stayed in her cage with the bedroom door closed. One day, the cat knocked over the tank and her abdomen got cracked. The roommate was crying and freaking out. He asked me to hold her while he cleaned up the mess, and I did. I was still a little scared, but I learned that this particular spider was not the vicious hellbeasts that literally jump on my face when I’m minding my own business. It didn’t change my mind about all spiders everywhere.

If the analogy was really confusing (it was, I’m sorry), here’s the tl;dr version: Men are like spiders. They are scary and capable of hurting or killing you. But trusting a couple to NOT do that is not loving and praising all of them, and you’re still allowed to hate and be scared of most spiders even if you have a pet tarantula at home.
