There’s something off about them.

A truth hangs there, between Plague Deviser Marileth and his apprentice as they stand there at the edges of the House of Plagues’ territory, but it hurts his heart to acknowledge it, and his heart is already so hurt. It’s a pain he can’t fully wrap himself around and even considering it makes the damned thing loom up in such a way that it is simply too much.

So he pushes it away and greets them.

There is confusion.

Because of course there is.

Things are not as they should be.

Another matter to push away. There is work to be done, and Marileth has never been one to shy away from that. He ignores the looks his apprentice gives him, assures them they are his favorite—apprentices work better when they feel favored, after all. He did when he was new to the realm, and has seen it inspire creativity and a sense of belonging over and over throughout the eons.

Margrave Stradama always finds it amusing whenever he finds himself a ‘new’ favorite.

His heart hurts to think of her, and instead, he focuses on the new soul helping him now.
