I'm PK, she/they, a PK (pastor's kid) and interfaith Presbyterian/Jewish-raised girl with respect towards all religions. Welcome backstage of the chancel: there's a decent chance I implode around Christmas and/or Easter.

Posts and shitposts about being involved with the Presbyterian church, working towards a better understanding of Jewish traditions (I have lived in an area with vanishingly few synagogues for some time now, so I have a much more limited grasp than I'd like), and the thoughts of a PK raised with irreverent love for everyone and all things.

There is a church elder/dad type (we will call him T) in the congregation, and for the past month or two, he has randomly gone to the closest coffee shop and gotten a tea for my mother and a hot cocoa for me. When I am hiding in the back of the sanctuary (because Presbyterian), he will come find me and give me the drink. He is wonderful, and I deeply appreciate it. This is not the point.

I have told him (repeatedly) that I am going to pay him back, because the closest coffee shop isn't super expensive but its still fairly pricey. Whether it is through money or not remains to be seen. Here is a rough transcript of the conversation I just had with him (again):

T: Here you go, PK

PK: Thank you so much. (slight pause) I am going to pay you back, you know.

T: No you won't.

PK: Yes I will, T. (said with much sass and emphasis on the name)

The wonderful thing about growing up in a low-church setting is no one questions it when they hear you fall on the stairs, quietly grumble curse euphemisms, hand the pastor a church-shaped coin bank, and then completely and utterly fuck off to go take a nap.

Coming into and off of Easter like doing drugs. You wake up one morning, and everything is just fine, sleep until 7:30, all good. You wake up the next morning at 6:30, and OH FUCK ITS EASTER FUCK FUCK FuCK FUCK and Mom is in the shower and oh fuck where's the cardigan where did the dog go OH FUCK ITS 8:45 run run run run get to the church OH WHERE'S FOOD OH GOD CHILDREN SHIT ITS NINE oh there's the non-pork burrito yay for the three-hour window in which I am allowed to eat bread (Passover) so as not to piss off the sweet old church ladies OH WHY CANT I EAT IN PEACE WHY MUST MUSIC it's 10:30 and I'm just now eating and service starts in fifteen minutes.
