This vertical woodblock print is a celebrated masterpiece designed by the legendary ukiyo-e icon Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1798–1861). The print features the infamous outlaw-hero Shiratsuka Jūemon (often associated with the Shirabhoshi or "White Handles" street gang) standing in a striking, defiant pose, while an inset portrait represents his lover, the famous courtesan Komurasaki.

Antique jinbaori (batlle surcoat), part of the Kimonoten2020 exibit. This coat bears on its back the agehacho (swallowtail butterfly) crest of Oda Nobunaga. Its whole torso part is covered in feathers.
Jinbaori were decorative coats worn by high ranked warlords, especially during the Sengoku period. Like the rest of the lords’ battle regalia, they were luscious and expensive, showing their owner power and status.

Description from the Walters Art Museum: ”The primary motif of this tsuba is large lotus leaves in gold. The leaves at either side fold over the edge, which connects the two sides. Below the leaves, stylized lines in silver indicate water. Lotus grows in ponds of water. On the obverse, a frog is on the left, near the hole for the utility knife.
