Maybe you’re trying to come up with some open starters to lure in new or old partners, or perhaps you got more responses to a starter call than you expected and are trying not to make them all the same. I mean, it’s easy to just go with the classics: Who are you? What do you want from me? I’m lost and need directions, please help? I know there are more of the same starters everywhere, and I know I’m not the only one tired of seeing them. But I’m not here to complain about them; I’m here to give you a couple tips and tricks get those creative juices flowing.

Headcanons. Make sure your partner is okay with you using their headcanons as inspiration for starting interactions with them. This can usually be found in their rules, and if not, just ask. If so, search through your partner’s headcanon tag if they have one. There is often a goldmine of info on their muse that could make it easy to tailor a starter just for them.

Wishlists. This is another good place to look. Maybe some things in their wishlists don’t quite fit your muse, but in that case you can always tweak things to make it work for both of you.

Memes. Think outside the box. Memes can be used for more than just the askbox. Have you ever found a list of starters that sound more like something your muse would say to someone rather than something someone would say to them? This is your chance to use them. And the best part is you don’t have to put up with the character limit in the askbox. 

“Are they dead?”

“Oh my God, you KILLED a PERSON!”

“Am I next on your hit list?”

“Calm down, it’s just a corpse.”

“Do you act like this every time someone kills something in front of you?”

“You can’t go around killing people- that’s illegal!”

 “Don’t be ridiculous; you just ran a red light so that makes you just as guilty.”

“Give me a minute to process the fact that I just witnessed you murdering someone.”

“Are you sure they’re dead?”

“They had it coming.”

“It’s like they were asking to be killed.”

“If it wasn’t me, it would have been someone else.”

“If it upsets you that much, then don’t look.”

“How can you eat after what you just did?”

“Just because I killed one person, it doesn’t mean I’m about to go on a murder spree!”

“Why must you make a big deal out of one little corpse?”

“If it makes you happy, I’ll notify their family.”

“How do you expect me to sleep after that?”

“I killed someone.”

“First come, first served. I don’t make the rules, sorry.”

“Oh, hell no! You are taking a bath before sitting on my couch.”

“If you don’t come out in the next five minutes, then I’m coming in.”

“When was the last time you washed yourself?”

“There are dog germs all over me! I need a shower NOW!”

“Yeah, you need a bath. Preferably yesterday.”

“I don’t think so. Bubbles are for children.”

“I am taking a long bubble bath and I expect no interruptions unless the world is ending.”

“I just got in here! Wait your turn!”

“You’re taking a shower even if I have to throw you in there myself.”

“You act like you’re allergic to water.”

“There is no way I was in there that long.”

“I need a vodka and a bath. Maybe even a vodka bath.”
