small updated character synopsis for evvie under the cut since i finally finished it! xo
born january 7, 1876 to evariste and seraphine mayeux. she was born in new orleans, louisiana and is the eldest of three children. her younger siblings are her brother léonce and her younger sister claudette.
she was close with her parents until her brother was born, then the expectation became that she had to raise her brother after he was born when she was 6 and then her sister as well when she was born when evvie was 10.
when evvie was 8 she suffered an injury due to a witch in the french quarter who had decided that she wanted to get rid of all the supernaturals who had vampires in their lineage. which included the mayeux kids. what she didn't count on was the fact that evvie had a protection charm from her mother that worked for the most part. the most damaging thing it did after breaking due to the sheer force of the attack, was evvie found herself hit by a blast of magic while pushing léonce and claudette out of the way and because of this she lost most of her vision, only able to see about a foot in front of her without her glasses.
when evvie was 16, her family died as a result of an attack by a group of hunters on october 14, 1893 while they were on their way home from the chicago world's fair. evvie brought their bodies home and they had a funeral for them before she left for medical school the following year.
she studied in boston until 1898 and returned to new orleans to live with her aunt madeline, during this time, evvie was turned by the elder vampire when she was 22. madeline took her under her wing and helped her adjust before she started to work with
she worked there until she had to leave due to lack of aging and some people giving her suspicious looks. this was around the 1920s in the great depression.
because of this, evvie turned a lot of her focus to helping those in new orleans. she inherited great wealth from her family so she used that to donate food and clothes as well as helped with any medical care that people may have needed.
it was during this time she met the man who would become her husband, joseph williams. he had moved from texas to new orleans and got a job as a police officer, the two of them meeting when she was helping a family in the lower ninth ward when he was responding to a call.
because joseph was african american, they had to meet in secret, often using many of their connections to keep the city quiet so that no one would find out. they got married in secret in the spring of 1938, and despite having to live together in secret at her family home, they lived quite happily together until joseph was drafted into the war in 1942. he was drafted into the 93rd infantry division and left to go overseas in january of 1944.
joseph fought alongside the 369th infantry regiment in italy until the end of the war, though he was fatally wounded after getting hit in the chest. evvie found out when his body was sent back to texas and his older sister reached out to her having had them at the wedding.
while he was overseas, evvie gave birth to their daughter whom she named odilia victoire williams mayeux. getting both a family name from evvie's grandmother in odilia, and joseph's last name as part of her name rather than two last names. odilia was able to meet joseph's family, though she doesn't really remember them as they were unable to get back to texas very often afterwards.
from his family, evvie did receive his dogtags that she gifted odilia on her 80th birthday, and the compass he had which she saw had her photo in it when she got it.
evvie went back to medical school in the 50s, bringing oddie with her to keep an eye on her before they returned to new orleans and evvie started her residency at big charity once again. thankfully, enough time had passed that she was able to rejoin and no one was the wiser for the most part as they had all passed or retired. evvie repeated the cycle once again, leaving in the 70s and dropping off back to doing work in the lower ninth ward for those who needed medical care.
in the 90s, evvie went to louisiana state, as of right now, that was the last time she went to medical school. evvie completed both her schooling and residency in louisiana this time, returning to big charity. this was where she met a young michael robinavitch (up to each portrayal of robby of course) when he was also doing his residency at big charity. after he left, evvie stayed and remained working at big charity until hurricane katrina made landfall in august of 2005.
evvie stayed in the hospital as long as she could helping to get patients out before starting with the rescue efforts. she stayed in new orleans until october of 2005. when she was in the lower ninth ward, she got stuck in one of the houses trying to rescue a family and she got stuck when the floor of the attic rotted out and her leg snapped backward, which caused her femur to snap.
she was pulled out of the rescue efforts, though her enhanced healing had the bone fusing incorrectly so she developed a limp as the bone healed on an angle. once finishing up the initial physical therapies after the doctors decided not to rebreak and align her leg given the fact that it was healed, she moved out of new orleans with her daughter. the pair of them ended up in pittsburgh where evvie remains to this day.
evvie enrolled oddie in high school two years after they got settled, making sure that they weren't being tracked by any hunters. oddie completed high school, found her passion for the arts and spent some time performing at open mic nights for a few years. evvie on the other hand, started more intense therapy with her basically lifelong therapist jenna. she got more into her hobbies, mostly which included art, running and dance.
in 2010, five years after settling, evvie joined ptmc as a second year resident, when she finished her residency she was offered a job as an attending on day shift. leaving pittsburgh to be the first place outside of new orleans that evvie has ever set down roots. to this day, she remains in pittsburgh and is grateful for the life that she has here.
TL;DR evvie is no longer a heretic, just a vampy vamp. she was turned at 22, lived in new orleans until 2005 after hurricane katrina, that's where she broke her femur so that still happened, moved to pittsburgh, hid out for awhile and did intensive therapy got her first service dog moose, and rediscovered her hobbies instead of joining the military, started at ptmc as a second year resident in 2010, so she's been an attending since 2012. pretty much everything else is the same. i'll be updating a few little things based around season one and two of the pitt but for now tada.
