The amount of times Rimmer has thought it would be a good idea to have another him and then immediately started hating the other him or having something bad happen with it is actually insane. Will he never learn? Will he never acknowledge his own self hatred?

something that bugs me about back to earth but i dont think ive seen many people talk about is the fact they apply better than life rules to the hallucination when lister chooses to stay. they act like its impossible to get him out unless he decides he wants out, but... that's just not how the squid hallucinations work. in fact, they are forcibly removed from their group hallucination in the very episode that inspired the miniseries and they don't seem to be negatively affected by that in the slightest. so what's stopping them from using a mood stabiliser on lister and freeing him from the joy squid's illusion there, too? In fact, I think it would've made for more interesting conflict/plot if he didn't choose to leave at the last second and was forcibly removed and he had to confront the fact he was more willing to die with the illusion of happiness than live in misery (much like in the better than life novels!). just my two cents on it i suppose.

I'd like to add I am well aware the most annoying guy in a fandom is the cynical, cinemasins-pilled jackass who goes "oh well why didn't [character] just do [logical boring thing] instead of [illogical but ultimately more thought provoking/plot driven/character specific/etc thing], [character] is stupid and [series] is poorly written" but i feel this is a different can of fish yk? like.. this isn't something they haven't experienced before and i PERSONALLY (big red circle with 10 arrows pointing towards it) find the solution of lister just... changing his mind unprompted waaaayyyy more boring than the logical solution.
