Diana’s treatment of Jerry

So I can kind of understand how Diana felt and why she did what she did but only to a certain extent. I was in her shoes as a 16-year-old going head-first into a relationship because I thought I really liked the person but I only really liked the thought of him or certain aspects. I know it’s not the same but I realized at a certain point (just like Diana did) that I could not be with the person anymore.

I could not fathom breaking up with him though because I did not want to hurt him (just like Diana did) BUT I knew I had to end it as soon as possible and not prolong it like Diana planned to. What I’m trying to say is: AWAE showcases the growth and hardships of all the characters in Avonlea. It’s not all perfect and while it is completely okay to realize that what Diana did was wrong, we also have to keep in mind that these kids are literally just that: kids and teenagers.

They should be able to try out different kinds of relationships to really see what fits them. However, they’re in a time period that doesn’t allow that and girls marry almost immediately but at a point in their lives when they don’t have a lot of life experiences. I know I remembered a lot my classmates in HS doing the same thing Diana did but even worse but hopefully down the line people learn from that. I know I was able to see my worth and learned more about relationships before getting into one. I hope Diana can do the same.

It broke my heart that when Anne and Gilbert danced in the barn, they had no romantic moments like they did during the rehearsal 😭. I think that helped solidify to Anne that Gilbert isn’t her destiny. I really wished Gilbert could’ve at least seen that he didn’t feel anything for Winifred. I wonder how they will play this story out at the end of the season. I don’t think she’d stay forever bcuz that would really mean Gilbert’s serious right??

Why AWAE

Gilbert could’ve had his happy ending with Anne if he wasn’t focused on taking Winnie around and meeting her parents (when in the world did that happen!?). Anne was literally thinking of Gilbert as her DESTINY and then had that shattered as soon as she saw them together. Man I know it’s a journey to love but this just hurts ☠️
