Listen. Imagine you're a woman in an unbelievably loving relationship. Your family doesn't like him much because he's not from around here, but he's sweet, intelligent, and dorky, and his favorite thing to do is to watch the deer in the backyard with you. But one day he disappears— he's left you for another woman, you meet her and she's awful to you (you try to see her as another woman rather than just a demon who stole your husband, you try to blame your husband, but she's really awful), your family corroborates this story, you don't see him again. You spiral completely. You see him in everything, you're driven to alcohol.

Eventually you find incredible new friends, magic is real, you become a very powerful monk, etc etc, and one day you're visiting the pearly gates (just to investigate the mystery, you thought) and suddenly angels are getting beaten up as someone escapes from heaven and there he is, your husband. He didn't leave you. "You'd have to be crazy to leave Sophie Bikes." The 'other woman'— not the other woman, but a for real actual demon— killed him, he's dead, and now you have to grieve him in a whole new way, and you reclaim his surname but the grief feels worse because now when you want your husband back it's a hollow, neverending ache (what is grief if not love persevering?). And he was also a powerful monk, he knew about magic, and you would have liked to have shared this world with him.

But you keep going because you're saving the world and all that, but in the biggest battle you die for just a moment— and in that moment you see his hand reaching toward you through the pearly gates. Would it be better to let go and run towards him instead of accepting the call to return and keep fighting? Would you rather just be with him, dead, than alone (but with your friends) and alive? You're Sophia Lee, so you wake up to fight. But you know, you know that you're going to bring him back to watch the deer in the backyard with you (in another life I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you). The two of you are too powerful, and nobody could stop Dale Lee and Sophie Bikes.
