In Operation Doorstep, conducted during the larger Operation Upshot-Knothole nuclear bomb test, mannequins are seated at a table in the dining room of house number two, attending a “dinner party” thrown by Civil Defense officials who are testing the effects of an atomic explosion on houses and occupants on March 15, 1953. 

After the blast, mannequins lie strewn about the room, their “dinner party” interrupted violently by an atomic blast on March 17, 1953.

A compilation of times my Nana kicked people’s asses.

The 1940s, during the Zoot Suit Riots two white women accused my grandma of dating a white man and a bunch of racist shit (my grandpa was super white passing but he was still a Pachuco). She beat the shit out of both of them yelling in Spanish the entire time.

My brother, who is a cholo, threw a “meeting” or whatever with his fellow cholo chums at her house while she was gone. She came back early and saw some not so legal stuff happening. She started screaming and kicking and throwing things scaring about 20 or so cholos out of the house.

Her neighbor (who’s wife is blind is kept in the house) once flirted with my Nana by holding her hand through the fence. Yeah, she grabbed his hand pulled it towards her and popped him in the face a couple times. She was like 80 here.

A white lady accused her of stealing while at Marshall’s. When it was proven that my Nana didn’t, she gave the lady a swift kick in the ass while my poor cousin rushed her out.
