I think it's a pretty common knowledge by now that if you make a project inspired by something, while also having this werid superiority complex over said thing and actively shitting on it, your project is immediately dogshit and/or always and I mean ALWAYS doomed to fail like some sort of divine karma. It's a tale as old as time. This specific reason is why I never fw Class of 09 and was not surprised in the slightest when the community turned on the series and creator, because the game was made to make fun of VNs as a medium and it's fans when every animosity towards VNs are the false idea that 1. All VNs are dating sim slop and 2. VNs are in the same category as other video game genre like fps and action RPG when in reality it's a storytelling medium like light novels or graphic novels.

Take all those YanSim inspired projects that never see the light of day because something ALWAYS goes wrong (now I'm not saying that YanSim doesn't have it's own set of problems, obviously). It's also why turn based JRPG/RPG inspired games like Expedition 33 and UTDR are beloved and as successful as it is.

Now fanganronpa projects that have this exact thing happened is practically A Tale as Old as Time and a dime a dozen by now, and I actually do not think it's a coincidence that projects like Tetro or PJEG crashed and burned the way it did considering the writers attitude towards Danganronpa as a whole, also in PJEG's original writer's case, VN as a medium, anime as an art style and reading?? READING??? (and not to mention them basically saying if your MC doesn't have a basic white name, it'll be too complex and hard for players to relate to them. I might be too woke here but ...yikes 😬).

On the flip side, I don't think it's a coincidencethat fangan projects like DRA and SDRA2 succeeded and well received by the community. Is it the best fangan series out there? Maybe not. But because you can tell that the games were made with the mindset of "I love the original series and wanted to expand on the lore featuring my own OCs!" And not the arrogance of "Fuck the original series and it's shitty writing! I could definitely do better!".

All I'm saying is if you put DRA and PJEG side by side, one is clearly more "polished" than the other. But let's be real, at least one of them was actually a complete game and reached it's conclusion.
