*Victory Trumpets!!!* Joëlle and Strauss, courtesy of the talented @dream-piper ~
I am in love with these renditions and it has made me miss my story-children ; w;
Both their moods and enthusiasm (or lack thereof) make me smile :3
Sky whales breaching the miasmatic mist produce a dazzling spectacle against the setting sun. Jacob Stauss, however, has a hard time marveling at the beauty of an environment that has tried to kill him time and time again. Though beautiful, the mist is a deadly corrosive force. His job, day in and day out, has him diving into it to retrieve valuable artifacts from wrecks hidden deep beneath its surface. It’s not his occupation of choice, but as a convict looking to shorten his sentence, career options are limited. – An illustration for my lovely husbando, @seandunkley <3 His character, Strauss! As an anniversary gift!! We’ve been together for 11 years now, if you’d believe it! He is the light of my life… I love him very much!
Strauss’s big reveal * w* !!!
Bringing Her Home
"Celebrations are always in order whenever a good haul comes into port. Every scarp of floating debris is worth something, but once in a while, a mother lode rises from below. Such a discovery is an auspicious event and worthy of the entire community's jubilation." ———————————————————————————— My new life goal is an image a day!

GEOLOGICAL HEALTHCARE
Testing out the story with proper comic dimensions. Definitely a lot more space to allow for time and exposition, but I need to get used to time/effort involved. Exciting times :D

Lingering Departure
Testing out a webcomic approach to telling this part of the story :D

Report 008 - Appropriate Altitude
We hadn't even started getting forward momentum and the ship already started bobbing and weaving due to the air streams above the city. I grabbed onto the railing and looked over to the captain. She glanced at me and before I had a chance to say anything she spouted: "We've still got another 120 metres before cruising altitude. Sit tight and don't puke overboard, that's rude. Use the bucket." The first part answered my question. I wasn't feeling air sick though, or at least I didn't think I was, but I'm assuming it was a common preemptive follow up to any question at this time.  Before heading out of the city limits we had to hit the allocated ceiling appropriate for outbound vessels. There was a great view of the harbour plus the rest of the city and cliche as it may sound, I was able to see my home from here. Mom and dad gave me heartfelt goodbyes, but found it too hard to follow me all the way to the docks. A cab from the institute was instead sent to pick me and my luggage up so we had our fond hugs and farewells at the front door. I do know they are incredibly worried about my journey, but they made a huge effort to keep the parting vibes on the light hearted side. Dad was the one holding back the tears, but faced the house so that the neighbours wouldn't see him. I knew I was going to miss them immensely, but I didn't expect those feelings to correlate with every metre gained. Our first destination was Port Heron about 3 days travel from here. We were going to pick up a few more guests along with getting a few more adjustments for the Sophia. I headed back to my cabin to make sure everything was secured.  I took the bucket with me, just in case.
Report 007- My rocks, let me show you them.
Ms. Sauveterre is very passionate about her field of study. Â She would just like everyone to appreciate how these specimens are the cornerstones of her civilization.
Report 006 - Tugging Islands
There was an air of pandemonium hovering about the city this morning. Courtesy of last night’s howling winds, a few salvaged islands and debris had broken free of their moorings. Floating menacingly inside the harbour, a good chunk of the coastal buildings were evacuated as a precaution. There is a price to pay for having fancy houses with a good view over the ocean after all. On a happy note: no collisions reported throughout the night with minor chafing on a few ships.
Report 005 - Terra Firma
Saying that Ms. Sauveterre is passionate about her realm of study [see Rocks of all Kinds] would be a huge disservice to the unbridled zeal she emits.  Eager to smile and disarmingly approachable are the best way to describe her, despite her limited range of conversational subject matter.  Big Rocks, Little Rocks, Old Rocks, New Rocks, Floaty Rocks, Shiny Rocks, Pebbles... you get the idea.
Another inescapable subject that has been making the rounds are her eyes. 'Carmine Orbs' as she called them, but I've heard less flattering terms being thrown around. Â She gave me a pretty candid rundown of their attributes: Â Horrendously poor eyesight in what we call the visual spectrum, but with an increased range into UV and infrared. Â She wears an amazingly sophisticated set of corrective eyewear that allows her to flip in various polarized lenses at a whim for what she called 'added coolness effects'.
Fascinating genetics aside, she's a doctorate researcher at the Nova Lutetia Institute. Funded directly by the department of geology, her goal is to further her research on Galileum and other gravity defying matter. Â An expedition to the source of it all, is more than ideal for her. Â Her Institutional Pedigree is impressive and makes me want to crawl under a... for lack of a better word, rock. Â

Report 004
Here she is, the FRV Sophia. Â Today was a whole pile of the unexpected:
She's a much smaller ship up in person. Â The pamphlet made her look a lot bigger. Â That being said, she was very densely packed, yet with a surprising amount of maneuvering space once inside.
She's clearly not a local vessel, but an Enochim one [fancy that] with what seemed like quite a few adjustments. Â The engineer was rather busy so he just blurted out that she was 'retrofitted to the gills'.
I'll be sharing my quarters with a geologist who's patron institute has fronted the remainder of the expedition costs. Â Seems like the Captain was able to find the only other scientist willing to go in person to our end goal. Â I think I look forward to meeting her, Â I'll find out soon enough.

Report 003 - Home Port
I'll be taking the tour of our commissioned vessel tethered at pier 45 tomorrow, so I thought I'd make sure I knew how to get there. Â I can't risk keeping the captain waiting again [see report 002] so I hope an early bird approach will prevent her opinion of me from deteriorating further.
I have to say that I really do enjoy the environment around the customs house. Â Apart from being an impressive building on its own, the surrounding ruckus and unending flow of bodies really gives it a completely different energy from the rest of the city. Â A little disorienting at first, it didn't take long for me to find the controlled chaos intoxicating. Â I can't even understand most of the conversations that are going on, but i still find the exchanges fun. Â Keeping a smile on earns you extra points.
Usual precautions apply: Â No loose shiny objects, keep the wallet buried and walk fast. Â To expedite, a little extra coin goes a long way. Â Most of all, avoid pissing off the locals. Â That last one should go without saying, but you'd be surprised.
