the smile makes marley feel good. important, even. he likes making people happy in any way that he can. âi used to be a bit of a teacherâs pet back in school â i guess thatâs transferring to my adult life. itâs not my fault the teachers were always nice to me!â he giggles a bit before accepting the papers into his arms. he nods his understanding and scans their surroundings, trying to find the best place for the flyers. âoh, um. well, i know that. but youâre, like, the director! it feels weird just to call you phoenix.â maybe thatâs just a marley problem. he errs on the side of too-polite. âcan i borrow the stapler then, phoenix?â he accentuates the name with a playful smile thatâs followed by a crinkle of his nose.
By then, Phoenix was turned back to the telephone post. He was working to staple a few of the flyers onto it in a way that created almost a plaster-like wall paper around the circumference of the post. Hearing Marley, he gives a shake of his head. âDonât sell yourself short. It is exactly your fault that they and others might like you. It means you have good qualities to you, youâre allowed to be proud of that.â He instructs the omega, giving a quick side glance as he does. âDirector or not, we all have to start somewhere. It wasnât too long ago that I was in your position, you know. And in every instance the directors I felt most comfortable working with were the ones I addressed as a friend, not a boss. We work together to make our productions happen, my shows would be nothing without the talent, yes?â With that, heâs offering the tool over to the smaller boy. âOf course you may, Marley.â
