The midjourney stuff just reminds of when we were trying to find a new platform to host the ao3 donation form, and companies kept trying to tell me about all their "ai" features that would track donor engagement, and figure out the optimal pattern to email individual donors asking for follow up donations, and all the ways they suggest we manipulate people into staying on our websites. It was a great way to filter out who either wasn't listening to us when we described our ethics and donor base, or just didn't believe us.
Now granted ao3 is a unique case based on a) the amount of page views we get in any given time period and b) the fact that most donors absolutely do Not want to be identified as such anywhere, (the default "list of recent donors" module got nuked Immediately) but it surprised me some that the concept of "donors who value their privacy and would be furious at even the whiff of AI" is unique. Some of us really are just existing in different worlds.
Op's tags
#I just started dropping '2.5 Billion page views a month'#into conversations as early as possible bc they would Not believe me otherwise#it was right up there with having to say 'csam attacks' to get them to take my compartmentalization of information concerns seriously#turns out those are the magic words#otw#op
The last part was kind of insane, honestly. When we started changing platforms for the donor database, I kept telling them that yes I was aware we already had an account for the volunteer database, and no that could not be connected to the donor database. And they said yes fine sure and then connected them anyway. And I called them back and said, excuse me, I'm confused, I can see both databases. And they said, well, yeah, but it's only you, someone has to be able to see both databases to give other users access. The other users can't see both. And I said, no, we have been asking for a completely separate database. I should not be able to see both. And they said, you are one organization, one organization can't have two databases. And I said, last year someone used our volunteer email list to commit approximately one thousand felonies. Please feel free to imagine how much worse it could have been had they had a way to use volunteers' email addresses to get their legal names. We do not want this to be something anyone can do no matter how much we trust them. Let me describe those felonies to you in more detail. And they emailed me two hours later and said, you can have two separate databases.
This post feels like watching an iceberg go by in clear water. The amount of stuff going on beneath the surface of AO3 just astonishes.

Approximately one THOUSAND felonies
so many people ive known have pushed themselves to burnout trying to deny their disabled reality, skipping accommodations, skipping rests etc. and the world convinces them that the solution to their burnout is to push even harder. itâs a huge tragedy. i know social pressures make it tough but i want more disabled people to make things easier for themselves where possible, to opt out of things that harm them when possible, to quit while theyâre ahead. be that person today! protect yourself where you can! take micro breaks while doing your hobby. get that shower chair. sit to brush your teeth. lie down in the middle of the day, even if only for 5 mins. these things add up and itâs so worth it.
happy disability pride month! ACCOMMODATE YOURSELF TODAY!
Can confirm shower chair was one of the best purchases ever. Everyone loves it. I donât know why thereâs such a stigma about it. The last thing my husband wants to do after standing at work for 8 hours is stand on sore feet to shower. Obviously you have to stand for part of it, so if getting up and down is hard maybe not such a good investment, but in his words, âeven sitting for two minutes to wash my hair and beard is enough to restore my energy reserves just enough to finish the rest of the showerâ and it prevents sitting on the toilet for thirty minutes trying to will himself to stand for another 15. I use it because circulation issues make me dizzy and I also have bad arches, so it hurts to stand in the shower where hot water is making blood pool in my legs.
I use a cane as well. I argued with myself for years about that. But it honestly has been a life changing decision. I no longer have to be afraid of random cataplexy attacks in my legs making me fall. Whether I have a diagnosis for why that happens is irrelevant; the cane has saved me some nasty curb biting incidents. It also makes other people move out of the way, which is nice because doing any quick time action with my legs is a 1 in 20 odds against them doing what I say when I say to.
Wearing a mask in public has also been absolutely game changing. I used to catch the flu (or get bronchitis from asthmatic allergies) and get pneumonia all the damn time. My body doesnât produce white blood cells in the right ratios, so I would get over the virus quickly but struggle to fight the infection. It sucked. But being able to just say âscrew it, Iâm masking, they can judge me to be paranoid or whateverâ has kept me out of the hospital for lung related problems for years now. Masks are great for allergens too, and additionally make it harder for mosquitoes (which I am deathly allergic to) to find you.
Sunglasses, noise canceling headphones, specific, comfortable socks (good GODS I did not realize how much of my sensory overwhelm as a teen was related to my damn socks until I could buy my own. Is it weird to wear fuzzy socks in 90 degree weather? Yes. But also they are actually pretty good at wicking moisture and actually keep my feet cooler than plain cotton ones, so đ¤ˇââď¸ same reason I paradoxically keep a fuzzy king sized blanket on top of my bedsheets all year round. It lets air circulation underneath my body, and is shockingly effective at keeping me cooler with nothing on top by reflecting heat away from the mattress, and warmer in the winter by reflecting heat away from the mattress to be trapped by more insulating fuzz on top. Accidentally created cat furâs insulation properties with velvet and velour blankets. For those who wanna know.)

Hello fellow people of Tumblr đŤĄđŤĄ
My special little dude has recently been diagnosed with cancer, Thymoma...đ
I have a hard time asking for help, especially since money is something that everyone is currently struggling with, and I feel bad. But it's worth a try đĽ˛. ANYTHING and everything is so deeply appreciated, even just sharing this post will mean so much to me. đđ°
Sharing...AGAIN!! đ°đ°đ° My boy is currently having his second round of radiation right now!
Wish I was in a position to help outâŚbunny cancer is tough. And anything to do with rabbits vet care wise is easily on par with exotic birds for costs. They have very delicate physiology and need specialty care that runs up fast.
Reblogging for reach. I understand how important these exotics are to people.
Guy who never feels like his problems are âbad enoughâ to be taken seriously: what if I hurt the character so horrifically that everyone around them could not possibly deny the severity of their pain even if the character themself tries to downplay it.
sometimes people on here talk about "accountability" in a way that shows they think that the person they've decided is in the wrong can't actually do anything to redeem themselves other than like. suicide.
We all agree, right?
AI to write your novel is wrong
A bargain with a demon to write your novel is okay
Only if you specify in the contract that the demon can't use chat-GPT
I've been thinking about this - and why asking the demon is also a bad idea
Tartini was a composer and violin teacher and no one respected him, he was generally broke, and he started having weird dreams in which the devil asked him to teach him violin
despite being catholic tartini agreed - although everything told him this was a bad idea
so he taught the devil violin in his dreams and when he had taught him everything he knew the devil offered him payment, he played an original composition in his dream
Tartini woke up weeping and struggled to write it down
we have a historical version of "couldn't remember the greatest song in the world, this is just its tribute", and the song he wrote down made him "Sonata in G Minor, aka the devil's trill" it's usually played by 2 violinists because it's evil difficult,
now imagine you make a deal with the devil to write your novel, he writes it but only lets you read it in a dream and you have to transcribe it from memory the next day.... 150k of the best prose and plot you've ever seen in your life and you have to remember it
chatgpt is evil, but that's just mean
This brings a whole new element to my understanding of Devil Went Down to Georgia

LIKES TO CHARGE REBLOGS TO CAST
you people aren't CASTING
man sometimes friendship really is just "I saw this and knew it would give you psychic damage. please respond with agony" and then they do. and it's great
Because I feel like kids of color donât hear it enough: domestic abuse is not a part of your culture.Â
A lot of us were raised with the idea that âits normal for wives/children to get hit! it helps them learnâ only white folk donât get beaten when they misbehaveâ. Thatâs not true, white people arenât the only ones who deserve a safe and abuse free environment. Black and brown people can and do have loving families.Â
If youâre in a situation where you are enduring abuse and people use your culture to justify it, I want you to know that what theyâre telling you are lies.
as someone who studies this: statistically speaking, child abuse (including âspankingâ, because all forms of hitting children are abusive) is pretty much equally prevalent in households of all racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. so yeah, donât let people use the âcultureâ excuse on you, but also, donât believe others are experiencing it less just because itâs less normalized in their culture to talk about it. we all gotta work together to fix this shit.
All the black & latino ppl who joked about Miles Morales saying âWhateverâ to his parents, saying that he should âknow he cant get away with that like white kids canâ and âlmao did he forget that heâs black/has a latina mom???â
You arenât better behaved because your parents beat you. âKnowing your placeâ did not make you more dignified than white children, you were being needlessly abused.
I think at bare minimum all medical professionals need to make sure they are treating patients with more kindness and respect than grifters. if you go to a doctor and they treat you like shit, humiliate you, and send you home without any information on your body or access to treatment, then health-grifters' offers will start to feel more tempting by simply giving the most basic performance of taking you seriously and caring about your well-being. grifters should be condemned for manipulating and exploiting sick people, and doctors also play a role in whether grifts thrive or are successfully identified and rejected. genuine baseline human respect, and beginning a relationship with a patient by earning (rather than demanding) trust, goes a long way.
It is so ridiculously easy to gain a reputation for being competent by just reading signs.
This is not metaphorical. I mean actual, literal pieces of paper/plastic/metal/whatever explicitly erected to inform the public.
âHow did you know this was the right trail?â I read the sign.
âWow, how did you know what that flower is?â Thereâs a SIGN.
âHow did you know we needed to use the side door?â THERE IS A SIGN POSTED ON THE FRONT DOOR.
JustâŚwhy are we having such different experiences of the world? People can read. I KNOW they can read. Thereâs nothing wrong with their vision.
Just. READ. THE. GOD. DAMN. SIGN.

hey so can i get some gross yucky perverted sex thatâs also sickeningly tender to the point of tears. please
I actually recommend everyone write for a rarepair once because it completely changes your relationship with fandom. Engagement stops being numbers and starts being names. You know who's going to show up. You recognize usernames. Someone disappears for a while and then comes back and you're like âOH MY GOD WELCOME HOME.â It's incredibly wholesome. It is also deeply inconvenient when all six of you simultaneously get writer's block-
