Nobel Prize Winner, PBS Host ~ Penn St Professor Richard Alley

Dr Richard Alley is an international expert on climate change. He participated in the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and was a co-recipient of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. He hosted the PBS mini-series ‘Earth: The Operator’s Manual’ and has authored numerous books, including the popular account of climate change and ice cores, The Two-Mile Time Machine. Martha Nussbaum
During Women’s History month, we’ll highlight some of our recognizable members.
Phi Beta Kappa member Martha Nussbaum is an American philosopher and the current Ernst Freund Distinguished Service Professor of Law and Ethics at the University of Chicago, where she is jointly appointed in the law school and the philosophy department. She has a particular interest in ancient Greek and Roman philosophy, political philosophy, feminism, and ethics, including animal rights. She also holds associate appointments in classics, divinity, and political science, is a member of the Committee on Southern Asian Studies, and a board member of the Human Rights Program. She previously taught at Harvard and Brown, and was made an honorary member of Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Chicago in 2004.

Remembering Phi Beta Kappa member and poet Mary Oliver. She was inducted as an honorary member at Harvard University in 2003, when she spoke at the Phi Beta Kappa induction ceremony. Her poem, "A Walk Through the Graveyard," was published in The American Scholar's Winter, 1969-70 edition.

Congratulations to #PBKStaff member Nora Eigenbrodt who finally got her business cards today! Nora joined Phi Beta Kappa as the National Arts & Sciences Initiative Associate this fall. She is a recent graduate of @VassarCollege with a degree in political science and a background in advocacy, congressional relations, and nonprofit communications. She’s previously interned with the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, and @nehgov. In her role, Nora hopes to energize members around the fundamental value of a liberal arts and sciences education on our campuses, and in our workplaces and communities. She recently helped plan and execute this year’s #PBKKeystoAction week, and in the spring she’ll be working to engage #YoungProfessional members in pursuing campus-to-career transitions.
