Chapter Fifty-Five
Finally getting cell service after being in Switzerland and then the flight home, Brianne couldnât wait to unpack and recharge. The vacation/getaway was supposed to be relaxing for the couple, but Brianne realized she wasnât cut out for the royal treatment. She enjoyed the feeling of being with Harry but she didnât enjoy being passed around like a piece of meat, especially during parties.
She wasnât a partier, ever. Brianne assumed that was because she went right from college with Lynn, to pregnant with Rhys to then being a mother her whole life. Her mother and father taught her hard work pays off and she had done so her whole life. There werenât vacations to, well, anywhere, except maybe America every once and a while when she was kid. She never had enough money to take Rhys away on vacation, so relaxing to Brianne was sitting for a day by the beach or lounging outside her dadâs house with a straw hat on her head and a book and margarita nearby.
Lynn was waiting at the airport for Brianne when she landed. Harry was spending another day in the snowy weather to ski with Guy, Eugenie and Jack. Catherine and William were also on the same flight as Brianne â just in first class.
As she disembarked, Brianne through her hood up and grabbed her carry-on bag. Her son was waiting at Kensington with her father.
âAre you and Harry having problems?â asked a reporter who pushed his way to the front asked as Brianne was walking down an escalator. âAre you and Harry having marital issues?â He asked again, seeming to follow her. After he asked a third time when Brianne turned around.
âExcuse me?â She questioned flipping down her hood and walking over to him, attempting to not make a scene or have William and Catherine come through.
âYou heard me,â the man replied in a huff.
Brianne tried to calm her breathing before starting. âYou try work for and living into a family you know little about. Taking on and hearing stories you donât expect to hear. I didnât grow up doing this. I feel confident in myself to go around alone. I donât need Harry for everything I do. Heâs a big boy. Heâs done engagements for years before me.â Â She turned around, flipped the hood back up and went to Lynn who already had her bags in hand.
âWhat?â Lynn asked as the best friends got in the car. Brianne should be happy to be home, not tense and rough. Brianne just shook her head at the question. She didnât want to go into detail. âBri, youâve-â
âNo,â the royal girlfriend cut off her friend. âI donât have to explain. I just canât do this anymore. Iâm not cut out to be the girlfriend he wants. Iâm not.â Â Lynn sat and listened as Brianne explained the meltdown at the club and New Yearâs Eve. Â She sniffled before getting out of Lynnâs car at Nottingham; and composed herself as she walked into the house, smiling at her little boy.
He turned at the doorâs opening. âMummy!â Brianneâs tense feeling left as she knelt to her sonâs level and hugged him with everything she had. Â The life had gotten the best of her, and she needed to cool down; even if it meant forever.
Her dad saw through her façade and patted her shoulders. Lynn and Huw went upstairs to give the mother and son time to talk through some things.
âMummy, I had so much fun with Charlotte and George.â Rhys rambled. âWe coloured and watched movies and I got to see the Queen. Mummy, the Queen.â Brianne nodded as she took some Advil and continued to listen to her son but looked out the sliding glass doors at the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Park. The park was lined with people happy and unknowing her pain.
When she turned around she had tears pricking her eyes. She hated to leave this life, the man and family but she knew she had too. If she was ever going to be herself again, she had to go.
âGo upstairs, Rhys. Go pack some things. Weâre going to take a trip,â Brianne told her son. He nodded and ran off to find his grandfather and Auntie Lynn. âWhere did I go wrong?â Brianne whispered to herself.
She walked over the front foyer and she looked at the set up; which was under her purview. In between two candles was a lone photo. Â It was Harry, Brianne and Rhys at Althorp House, near the Round Oval Lake. Brianneâs head was on Harryâs shoulder and Rhys was on Harryâs lap. She was taken from her revire when Lynn came down with two of her suitcases and Huw came down with a suitcase for Rhys.
âWhere are you going, B?â Lynn asked sincerely. Brianne shrugged.
âAmerica.â She deadpanned.
âAmerica.â Huw nodded before clapping her on the shoulder. âBe well, Brianne. Donât runaway because youâre scared, donât runaway because you donât love him. Donât runaway because you donât want to be found. If youâre going to runaway, runaway to make a new life.â She nodded and they talked out details. She would leave her car at her fatherâs house and Lynn would take them to the airport.
She left a note for Harry explaining she was quitting as his chef, and leaving as his lover. Sheâd call him in a few days to officially say goodbye but her heart and mind wasnât in the relationship anymore.
A/N: This is really hard to write. But I needed to write this to make Brianne realize the world is setting her up to be with Harry. Sheâs going to find Harry at every turn, even through sheâs not in the UK. Sheâs just running away for a few chapters, to âfind herself.â Havenât we all at some point?
Chapter Fifty-Four (Part II)
Brianne sighed taking another sip of her cranberry and vodka before looking around the dark room curiously. Harry placed his own glass back on the bar and leaned against Brianne, wrapping an arm around her stiff shoulders. âItâs New Yearâs Eve, Brianne.â
Brianne and Harry were one of the first guests to arrive at Public; Brianne had to admit, she had her mind get the best of her all day. She looked around and saw friends and royals and then there was her: a mother-of-one non-royal.
This New Yearâs Eve was so different from the usual. It had been since Rhys was born that Brianne had gone out. Â If she was going to be honest, there was also a little part of her that really wanted to be a bit morose and pathetic and sit in her PJs with Rhys in her legs watching the fireworks from the Thames.
âI was happy with my plans that Iâve been doing for years,â she protested, weakly, reaching for the bright blue glass still half-filled with the  cocktail. Even though the music pounded through the club, she lowered her voice. âRhys and I enjoy eating ice cream and watching the Thames display on BBC.â Even to her own ears the protest sounded weak, and she could tell from the skeptical eyebrow raise that Harry didnât believe a single word of it.
âUh huh, of course. Sounds like a wonderful evening that could be any other night of the year.â Harry reorted, poking her side through her black dress. Ed Sheeran and Joss Stone were just two of the people in the room. But when Emma Watson walked it, it really hit her she was out of her league. The Pellyâs had spared no expense in making sure that the party was as amazing as ever; top notch entertainment, A-class celebrity guests and designer booze sheâd never heard of before. Harry whispered his apologizes as he had to go say hello to someone and she watched him walk away.
âYouâre looking rather lost.â Brianne was startled out of her reverie by a man, dressed in a tuxedo, who sat down on the stool next to her.
âI know exactly where I am right now,â she gave a heavy sigh still studying the crowds walking around the room. âAt some club with some people I donât know.â She grinned at him but quickly lost the smile as the man next to her turned on a thousand watt smile that didnât really meet his eyes.
âAre you sure?â He quested as he nursed the glass of scotch in his hands. He laid his other hand on hers. The cool contact made her tug her hand out from under his.
Draining the end of her drink, she put her foot on the ground to steady her. Â âI think Iâll go now.â
âI didnât mean to chase you off, Miss Evans.â The man said. She turned on her heel and looked at him. She caught the attention of the bartender and asked him for a glass of ice water, giving him a grateful smile when he pushed one across the bar. She planted herself and put the water to his face. âHoly shit.â He shirked and the whole club looked at them. âYou bitch.â He retorted as the bartender handed the man three towels. Â
Harry came to her side and asked what happened but not before quickly whisking her away to the other side of the room.
âWas that necessary?â Harry asked trying to keep his cool. These were his friends and she embarrassed them both. She shrugged â it was partly her being drunk and partly her melancholy for missing her son.
âHe hit on me.â She quipped. âDoes he not know who I am?â
âYou are?â Eugenie screeched. She overheard their conversation. âYou, Miss Evans, are nobody. You boyfriend is somebody.â Brianne held her head high as a drunken Eugenie confronted her. Harry stepped in between to diffuse the situation. He hated being in the middle.
He looked at his watch and though it was 11 p.m. and they had spent the majority of the night at the club, Harry figured it was time to go. The blowup, he knew was coming, especially because of the recent cut in workload from Eugenie and other stars aligning. He just didnât know it would be on New Yearâs Eve. Ignoring the speculative gaze from Guy, Harry led Brianne out of the club to a waiting car.
The roads were icy so the five minutes to the chalet turned into 35, but once Brianne was able to let out a breath in the empty chalet, she turned into a different person.
âHarry, I canât do this.â She said crying against the door. âTonight proved it. Iâm not one of you.â Harry shrugged off his jacket and placed it neatly over the back of a dining chair before unbuttoning his collar and cuffs and then slumping down onto the couch, this wasnât how he wanted to spend his evening.
10 minutes later Harry found Brianne in their bedroom. Her black dress hanging in the closet. She had changed into a pair of flannel pjs; ones different from her first night. Her face was clean of make-up and her hair was tied back away from her face in a messy bun. Her legs were tucked up beneath her, and she switched on her laptop.
âBrianne,â Harry began. Her hand splayed in front of her stopped him. When she put it down, he began again. âItâs nearly midnight.â Brianne smiled weakly and nodded. âI love you and I donât care who said what. I know youâre frustrated with being cooped up here and they doing their thing and talking fashion, social circles and other things. Iâm sorry. â He attempted an apology. âIâm sorry youâre without your son, Iâm sorry Skip got drunk and flirted, Iâm sorry. Iâm sorry Iâm sorry.â
She found the website she was looking for, half listening to Harry. He fell silent and continued to watch her, fascinated by the expressions crossing Brianneâs face the camera showed the revelers in London. Harry climbed in the bed next to her.
âBrianneâŚâ he whispered the words reverently as she turned her head toward him.
âI love you Harry.â She whispered. He reached up and stroked a finger along the line of her jaw. He leaned in slowly and brushed his lips across the corner of her mouth, groaning when she responded. Her breath tasted like cranberries. He closed his eyes, speared his fingers through her hair and opened his mouth over hers.
âHappy New Year,â she whispered against his lips, moments later, the sound of fireworks crackling from the computer.
He murmured back, âHappy New Year, Brianne.â
Chapter Fifty-Four (Part I)
Brianne and Rhys wish you and yours the best of holidays. We hope Santa is good to you. This is part one of their journey to a New Year!
âAh, Mister Rhys,â Lou said as he the boy opened the door. âAre you all ready?â He boy nodded as Brianne yelled from the top of the steps to let their visitor in. A Christmas tree glistened in the corner of Huw Goldfingerâs home. Underneath the green spruce lay presents big and small. âWow, looks like Santa was good to you.â
âHe was. I got everything I wanted. Well, kinda.â Rhys said putting his head down. Lou inquired as to what he was missing. âA dad and brother.â Â It took everything Lou had to not chuckle at the boy. âBut Iâm ready to go see Charles and Camilla.â
Brianne, in jeans, a sweater and boots, had two bags slung over her shoulder.
âHeâs going for a weekend, Brianne,â Lou laughed taking the two bags. âAnd Their Royal Highnesses have everything heâs going to need if something is missing.â Brianne hummed and haâad over Lou. Â
After a kiss and hug sent the two men out of the house. âBe good,â she said as she waved at the car. Lynn and Mark pulled up into the driveway as Rhys and Lou were leaving. âYou two.â Brianne greeted them and ushered them inside.
âMan, Rhys was a good kid this year,â Mark said pointing out the new bike leaning against the wall.
âSanta had a good helper this year,â Brianne quipped before going down the hall to get her bags. She came out of the room and found her friends getting water. âHarry bought most of the gifts. He had them delivered Christmas Eve via Lou.â She shrugged. Brianne didnât want to admit it, but it felt good to let Harry pamper and take care of her for a while. The not-paying-rent was great and the fact she felt loved and watched over made her sleep much easier at night.
Grabbing their plane tickets, Lynn shooâd her baby daddy outside the house and allowed Brianne time to lock up her fatherâs house. Huw was spending the beginning of the new year taking a life-long wanted train ride across Great Britain.
After checking their bags at the terminal, the trio passed through Heathrow Airport security.
âBrianne,â someone said catching her attention. She made the mistake of looking and a flash went off. Soon, there were several people taking photos and calling her. Mark kept his hand on her back and kept her walking. Lynn trailed behind shaking her head. The ten minute walk to the terminal was the hardest part, dodging people and trying to stave off photographers. When they arrived, she was whisked on the place with Mark and Lynn straight behind.
âIf Harry was here, it would be all kinds worse,â Mark said sitting next to her. Lynn took the outside seat. They put music on as the plane took off for a 90 minute British Airways flight to Geneva.
The flight was packed and even though the trio had first class seats, people still wanted a glimpse of Brianne. It was making her uncomfortable. As they were led off the plane and to the waiting car, Brianne checked her message.
âHey Bri, Iâm here, I canât wait to see you. Itâs been too long.â Harryâs voice cooâd over the phone. She smiled and leaned her head on the car window. It had been almost two weeks since Harry went to Sandringham. Mark brought the bags to the car and sat in the front seat as a driver took them the two hours to Harry and friends.
Brianneâs mouth dropped as she saw the chalet they drove up to. A quick horn honk and Harry was racing out the door to his beloved. âB.â He said lifting her in the air. The royal nearly smothered her in kisses. âWelcome to Verbier, Switzerland.â Brianne wanted to cry. The air was so pure, the weather, though cold, was just enough to be perfect and the Mont Blanc massif was too much for her.
A small town girl living in his grown up world was almost too much, until she came back to her senses and saw everyone standing there taking photos of her and him. Her heart raced until she looked and it was everyone she knew and cared about in their circle.
William and Catherine. Lynn and Mark. Sam and Isabella Branson. Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank.
âYouâre amazing,â she whispered as he let her down. âThis is beautiful.â Harry nodded as the group descended on the North Wing chalet of the Verbier Mountain Estate. A fireplace was already going and bags had been suspiciously placed in rooms. âIncredible.â
âWell, I know what Iâm doing tonight,â Lynn quipped pulling Mark to a bedroom. Everyone laughed as some went about doing their own thing. Sam and Isabella put the remainder of their snow gear on to take to the Alps behind them.
Eugenie and Jack continued to read by the cracking of the fireplace. William went about making food while Catherine stretched out on a couch in the lounge.
âWhat do you want to do?â Harry asked as he led Brianne to the outside patio. âThatâs the Alps. Thereâs a spa?â She shrugged. There wasnât any televisions, Brianne noted and the air was too perfect outside to want to go back inside.
âCan we just sit outside and watch the view? Maybe some champagne and us for an hour?â She asked meekly. Harry nodded leading her over to a wicker chair before turning inside for the drink she requested.
After joining her on the couch, Harry toasted. âTo us.â She nodded and sealed it with a kiss.
Chapter Fifty-Three
Brianne had a knack for decorating and though Kensington would be empty over the holiday, save for the Christmas at Kensington tours, Brianne started halfway through November. Garland adorned the stair railings; a jingle bell wreath was on Harryâs front door, electric candles sat at each window, the bulbs illuminating either red or green.
Seeing William and Catherine without any visible outside Christmas dĂŠcor, made Brianne sad. On one trip to the grocery, she stopped and picked up a live Balsam wreath for their front door.
âGood morning,â Brianne said as William still in his pyjamas held Charlotte in his arms answering the door. He groaned a welcome and invited her in. Their tree was beautiful, highlighted by a paper-and-string Christmas garland. Their dinner table had a centerpiece of miniature electric table lights weaved through a Christmas wreath. âWow. Youâre place is Christmas alright.â
âOh, good morning,â Catherine said coming out of their bedroom. Brianne checked her watch, it was 8 a.m. and they were still sleeping. Harry had gone to Northampton for an engagement and Rhys was already at school. Â Brianne handed over the boxed wreath and left but not without silently judging the royal duo.
Back at Nottingham, Brianne got started on a traditional St. Nikolas day feast for her favorite men. Â It was Dec. 5, which meant Brianne was able to teach about her favorite saint. It was then she paused, because she didnât know Harryâs feelings on religion. When she was a kid, religion played a big part in her life, she had swayed as she grew up but she kept some traditions, most notably going to Mass on Christmas and Easter.
She put on Christmas music though the home with Harryâs surround sound, which he had installed for her. Brianne had a penchant for dancing around the kitchen when no one was paying attention.
Her favorite though, was St. Nikolas day. She wrapped a few small items for Rhys and Harry and herself while the plum pudding was steaming.
After placing the gifts in a secret spot, she made two Kruidnoten cakes, with premade pound cakes.
âHi mom,â Rhys  said as the door slammed and his book bag slid across the foyer door.
She smiled and opened her hands for a hug. She was baking and the kitchen was relatively messy. âWait, how did you?â Brianne looked at the clock and then at her son. He was early from school. âHow did you get home?â
âHello love,â Harry announced as he walked into the home. âIâm home.â
âHarry,â Rhys answered on cue. She nodded and came to the foyer for a kiss from Harry. âGet a room.â They both chuckled as Rhys walked past them upstairs to his room. He had adjusted well, as far as they could tell.
âSomething smells good,â Harry quipped as he pulled some drying dough from Brianneâs fingers and popping it in his mouth. âWhatâs all this for?â
âSt. Nikolas Day.â Â Mel deadpanned. Clearly he had no idea. âWell, St. Nikolas is the Greek version of Santa and he comes on December 6. Kids and adults put shoes outside their door and he drops small gifts in the shoes. Heâs like a precursor to Santa. Itâs big in the Eastern Religions too.â Harry nodded as she explained the tradition. âI was hoping Rhys could set our shoes out by the fireplace.â The Prince shrugged as they both went back into the kitchen, but not before stealing another kiss. âMy family believed St. Nikolas only came when youâre a certain age. An age to understand and thank God for being good and blessing us.â
Harry sighed. âOh.â
âYeah,â she replied pulling out the cakes. âBut these canât be eaten until tomorrow. Sorry love.â Brianne chuckled as she pulled out a rotisserie chicken and mashed potatoes for dinner.
Chicken was Rhysâ favorite dinner. He blew through two servings of it before getting antsy. Harry had educated the two non-royals about his day with children who came from an abused home.
âYou do such great work,â Mel beamed at Harry.
âMom,â Rhys perked up, âHarry asked me what I wanted for Christmas in the car on the way home from school.â Brianne looked at Harry who shrugged. âI know what I want. I donât want presents, really. I want a daddy and a baby brother. Iâm going to play now.â
Harry nearly spit his drink back into the cup he was drinking out of. Brianne blushed as she put her head in her hands. Her son did not just tell that to Harry.
He did.
âIâm sorry.â She mouthed to him losing her appetite and cleaning her plate and the rest of the table off. Harry sat at the table pushing around the food with utensils. After doing the dished, the mother disappeared up the stairs to Rhysâ room. âTake your shoe downstairs, and apologize to Prince Harry.â
Rhys groaned. âBut mom.â Brianne cut him off but he gave it a valiant effort. âMom, Iâm not apologizing. I want him to be my daddy. He drops me off and picks me up. He hugs me and he kisses you. Itâs what George and Charlotteâs mommy and daddy do.â
âNo, just Rhys, our situation is complicated,â Brianne tried to explain.
Rhys, innocent as he could be, replied back. âHow? I love you. I love Harry. You love Harry. Harry loves you. Canât he just be my daddy? I asked Santa at school today for a daddy.â Brianne nodded and hoped one day her situation would be that easy.
âShoes. Stop in my room and get a shoe for me and Harry too.â She said before shooâing her child out and ending the conversation. Brianne knew it was a conversation coming; they had been living with Harry far too long. The domesticity had been getting to everyone, including now Rhys. She knew she was princess material and she was afraid how the public would accept Rhys.
Harry and Rhys chatter broke Brianne from her few minutes of silence. Harry was smiling as he tickled the child who wiggled in his arms.
âPJs, teeth, book,â Harry said. He was becoming the best story teller Rhys had. Brianne agreed as the pair went to their room to change into bed clothes. âHeâs right you know.â
âWeâre not talking about this now, or over the holiday,â Brianne replied.
âNo matter how right he is?â Harry questioned sliding into ball shorts.
âNo matter how right he is.â Brianne replied brushing out her hair.
While Harry went to read a bedtime story to Rhys, Brianne went downstairs to place goodies in the shoes and lock up the house. Whether Harry wanted to stay up or not was his business, but she was going to bed.
And thatâs exactly what happened.
Harry to the study for post engagement paperwork, Brianne to bed. She was halfway through a Stephen King novel and the night would be a good time to finish it. After brushing her teeth, she checked the time. It was 10 p.m. She laughed internally, what was she, an old maid? Harry coming into bed didnât even register with Brianne, who was sleeping.
Brianne  groaned as Rhys jumped on the bed, excited to see what small gift the Saint had brought him this year. Last year, he told Harry, St. Nikolas brought him the LeapFrog educational console, which Rhys kept close.
âIt was from my dad,â Brianne had later informed Harry as Rhys ran off. Harry placed his hand in hers and escorted her downstairs.
What she saw was not what she had expected.
Rhysâ shoe sat atop a small pile of wrapped boxes. Brianneâs atop two and Harryâs over three. She wanted to be mad at Harry, especially for butting in with her financial situation, but the glow on her sonâs face meant she couldnât lay into him.
âHarry,â she said her hand to her mouth letting tears freely flow.
Harry let her cry in his shoulder and wrapped an arm around her waist guiding her to the couch. âI wonât be here for Christmas, this is my way of celebrating Christmas. I called Lou after finishing paperwork last night and had him make some changes to what you bought your son for this holiday. It was perfect timing.â
âCan I open these?â Rhys asked bouncing on his heels. Brianne, her cries turned to sniffles, allowed.
Among several board games like Hungry Hungry Hippos and Beat the Parents was a Hot Wheels AI race track starter pack, controllers and hot wheels cars included, also an interactive globe of the world.
âSo cool,â Rhys said as he opened the box to the racing set. Harry slid on the floor between the mother and son to help Rhys but also watch Bri as she opened her packages. Two new outfits, both Karen Millen.
âOne for New Yearâs Eve and one for whenever,â Harry told her watching her eyes shift over the dresses. A dress was black, jeweled neckline short dress; the other was a belted black sleeveless jumpsuit. She whimpered as she ran her hands over the fabric.
âThis costs more than my closet upstairs,â Brianne whispered to Harry. He closed his eyes and kissed her.
âYouâre worth it.â He told her before opening his three boxes.
She watched as he opened a button down shirt, dark wash jeans and a wool pub cap.
âOh, we have a party on New Years,â Harry told her as if she hadnât already figured it out. âWeâre going to Guy Pellyâs club, Public, in Verbier, with William, Catherine and a few others.â Â Brianne coughed at her surprise.
âOh.â She responded, nearly shell-shocked.
âDad and Camilla are taking the kids, including Rhys.â Harry said turning to occupy the boy, and leaving Brianne to collect her jaw from the floor.

Chapter Fifty-Two
Harry had the day off and was planning on spending it together with Brianne. It was imperative she knew she was his world. So, after they both dropped off Rhys at school, Harry left it up to Brianne to pick what her day would consist of.
âYou want what?â Harry asked as he pulled the Range Rover back into the gates of Kensington Palace.
She chuckled as she unbuckled her seat belt. âYou heard me.â Harry nodded and sighed. Of course she would want to pop popcorn and watch old movies. That day screamed Brianne. âAnd I want to watch How Green Was My Valley first.â
Harry had never heard of the movie and couldnât imagine what it was about. As he called Lou to secure the DVD of the movie, Brianne made her way to the kitchen to make a quick breakfast of scrambled eggs.
âLou said as soon as he finds the three movies youâve requested heâll be over,â Harry said interrupting Brianneâs work flow. Everything they had done so far in the morning â sex in the shower after Harry woke Brianne up with feathery kisses on her neck, waking Rhys up for school, checking the news and tabloids and finally taking Rhys to school â seemed very domestic and Harry oddly liked it. Bri nodded and went back to cooking.
She was happily in her element at the stove.
As Brianne washed the dishes, Harry dug into her cheesy eggs. âHenry?â Brianne deadpanned. âWhatâs going to happen when you go to Sandringham for the Christmas holiday?â
Harry sighed. She had a point. Last year Brianne was off duty while the family was together at Sandringham. This year, he wanted to take her to Sandringham but knew that would be out of the question and seeing as the holiday was a month away he needed a contingency plan.
âYou can stay here,â he said with a mouthful of food. âIâll be gone with everyone but feel free to stay here.â
âI canât stay here,â she scoffed. âI canât go with you either.â When she said it out loud it hurt Harry more than he had anticipated. âI guess I can stay with my dad for a time. Maybe Lynn and Mark want some time to themselves. I can babysit baby Mark.â She had a way of musing things at the worst times.
The tension in the air hung over Nottingham Cottage as Harry sighed while washing his plate.
Just as she had sat down to eat, Lou came in the backdoor and set down three DVDs on the table. âYour movies, Your Royal Highness.â
âWhat fresh hell is this?â Harry shrieked as he looked at the covers of the DVDs. Three movies from the 1940s were in front of him: âHow Green was My Valley,â âMiracle of the Bellsâ and âBlithe Spirit.â He sighed when Brianne laughed. âYou canât be serious Bri.â
âOh but I am. I can recite every word of Valley. Even the Welsh!â She proudly told him as she watched Lou make himself a plate of eggs.
Harry resigned himself to being extremely bored while the movies where playing. One of the movies, Harry found out while he held them up to inspect them, was a movie about coal mining in Wales, another movie was about a Catholic church in some Pennsylvania town and the final one was about a first wife who was a ghost and visited the husband and second wife.
âIf there was one thing, besides Rhys, that I loved about Walter, it was the time I was able to spend in Wales. Seeing as Walter and I had very little money, we did things like go to the local library and learn Welsh or visited museums to understand the culture and people. I personally enjoyed the Rhondda Valley. I enjoyed learning about coal mining.â Brianne admitted as she cleaned off her part of the table. Harry knew right there he had a winner in Brianne â if she enjoyed learning about people on her off time, she would be perfect to enjoy learning about people on a daily basis.
âTake her to see Treorchy Male Choir,â Lou piped in before Brianne grabbed his empty plate. Â She rolled her eyes at his suggestion and went upstairs to change into sweatpants.
When she came down, her hair was in a ponytail, she was in sweats and a hoodie and to Harry she was the most beautiful girl heâd seen. Lou had gone and the movie was ready to have play hit on the remote.
Brianne grabbed her tea and the pair went into the watch the movie.
Throughout the movie, Brianne noticed Harry would fidget if he was bored. Both had agreed to leave their phone where they were out of reach and Harry just couldnât stay focused. To rectify the situation, if there was a song or a memorable line, Brianne would say it or sing it.
By the end of the movie, Brianne was crying on Harryâs lap and Harry was glad it was over. But he had a new sense of love for her. Â She had a love for a people she didnât know and threw herself into whatever she did with pride.
âThat was great,â she said getting off the couch and stretching. Harry rolled his eyes and hmmâd over her assertion of the movie. Looking at the time, she decided to finally make popcorn. Harry stayed behind to put in Blithe Spirit.
He had heard Camilla talk about the plot before but had never seen it. Judging by Camillaâs review it was decent.
In between them sat a bowl of buttered popcorn, a bag of wine gums and a fizzy lemonade with two straws. âItâs just like going to the cinema,â Brianne said as her and Harryâs hands touched while they went for the popcorn at the same time.
He laughed and nodded. âSure it is.â
After the hour and a half movie was over, it was Harryâs turn to like the movie. Brianne sighed and nodded. It was finally something they both liked.
âCamilla will be happy to know I liked the movie.â Harry told her. âShe likes this movie. Sheâs even seen it on West End.â
Brianne smiled and went to get the third movie.
Harry groaned as the black and white of the movie began. He was beginning to have other thoughts about what he wanted to do with Brianne, but kept his mind occupied by listening to Brianne sing.
âMiracle of the Bellsâ was a Christmas movie and Harry noted Nottingham was lacking in Christmas cheer. He accepted he had to get a tree for Rhys, at least, within the next few days. Brianne had already started preparing for Christmas by stocking bags in their closet after a trip to the grocery store. She was definitely a mother.
âI really wish you could come with us to Sandringham,â Harry whispered in his ear as Bing Crosby was saying something on screen. She nodded but kept her eyes on the television. âI feel bad for Rhys. How is he going to feel?â
She paused the movie before sitting up on the opposite of Harry â and then he knew he was in trouble.
âHarry,â she stated seriously. âRhys will be fine. He understands Santa will find him no matter where we are. The first year Walter moved out, I had my boss at the time write a note to Rhys from Santa saying he couldnât find his gifts but as soon as he had time to go back to the North Pole and bring them back, heâd get them.â Harry gasped at the revelation. âI needed to save a few more dollars and I just ran out of time. But at least we celebrated St. Nicholas day and Rhys got a colouring book and an orange. I felt like the worst mother but I knew I had to do it. Rhys will understand.â
He reached out to touch her but she uncurled her legs from under her and left the room. When he heard faint sobs coming from the kitchen he knew he had to get up to get her.
âDonât,â she said pushing him away. âI donât deserve this, I donât deserve you. Someone needs to pinch me to wake me up from this dream.â
âBrianne,â he began as he slowly walked toward her. âYou deserve all of this. You deserve the world. Rhys deserves the world.â He figured he made headway and finally reached for her, with success. Harry realized she poured her deepest secrets to him and he had to find a way to make sure it never happened again.
A/N: The three movies are amazing movies and âHow Green Was My Valleyâ is my favorite movie in the world. Let me know if youâve seen or like any of the three movies mentioned.
Chapter Fifty One
Brianneâs mind swirled, continually for days after Harryâs admission of love. Her biggest fear was that he said it right after sex and she was nervous it was just their night that made him say those three words.
It was all consuming and more than Brianne dared to hope for. She melted under his soothing words and tender touch almost nightly.
The love and affection Harry had for Brianne radiated from his body filling in the gaps where it was missing and made her whole again. Best of all â he loved Rhys and she couldnât ask for more.
Harryâs alarm went off at six a.m. â he had an engagement at an Armistice Day Service at the National Memorial Arboretum, Croxall Road, Alrewas, two hour north of London. He tightened his grip on her for a moment before trying to move so he could slip out of bed.
âIâm awake, Harry,â she giggled as they moved away from each other grudgingly.
âSorry, beautiful. I didnât mean to wake you.â He said sliding out of bed.
âYou didnât,â she reassured, âthe alarm did.â Harry sighed. âWhatâs wrong, Harry?â
âI hate leaving you.â He admitted. âI wish I could stay here today and be with you and Rhys.â She wrapped her arms around his shoulders and kissed him.
Being the cook she was, the offered to make a fry-up though Harry insisted she stayed asleep until Rhys woke up. Reluctantly, Harry made his way to the bathroom to get ready for his day and she to the kitchen; her body aching in all the right places.
Her earbuds  in her ears, she was dancing to âMe and Mrs. Jonesâ by Michael Buble, humming the melody to herself as she got started on the bacon.
âYouâre rather chipper this morning,â Mark grinned as he sat down at the breakfast bar. She blushed, which gave her away. âI guess you and Henry had a good night, eh?â
â Best night ever.â she grinned.
âGood. Weâre happy for you, Bri. You deserve to be happy and so does that little boy in there.â Her friend told her. âLynn wants to know when youâll be by to see MJ?â
âSoon, when life quiets down,â she replied making a pan of eggs. It wasnât too much longer until Harry came out, fully dressed in the Blues and Royals Tropical Dress, ready for the day ahead of him. He immediately came into the kitchen and left a searing kiss on her lips.
âMorning, beautiful,â he grinned.
âMorning, my sweet prince.â Brianne replied.
Mark  chuckled in the background behind us.
âWhat?â Harry asked turning to him.
âNothing, man.â Mark grinned, shaking his head.
âSpit it out, Mark.â Brianne interrupted the conversation.
Mark smiled and sighed favorably, âYou guys look happy thatâs all.â
âWe are,â The couple said at the same time.
Sitting down next to Mark, Brianne watched Harry carefully as he squeezed his eyes shut and shook his head. âI wish like hell I didnât have to be in Alrewas today. I want to spend the day with Brianne and Rhys.â
âYou know you canât do that, Henry,â Mark replied perking up some, âbut why donât you break tradition and bring them with you. I bet we could even let them sit on the sidelines.â
Harryâs face brightened a bit at Markâs suggestion and he turned to face me.
âIs that something you want to do? Iâd love for you and Rhys to come and hang out while Iâm walking around and opening . Y-you donât have to, but it would be cool to have you there.â His face looked so hopeful â as if Markâs suggestion was the perfect solution and really â it was.
âIâd love that, Harry. I just donât want Rhys and me to be in the way.â Brianne admitted turning to shut the stove off, plating two plates for the guys.
âYou guys could never be in the way,â Harry reassured. âHer Majesty wonât like it, weâll need to bring the full security staff, but I canât see how anything should be changed. Theyâll add another two seats to the service in the back of the Arboretum. Itâs not like people donât know about you since Invictus.â
âOkay.â she smiled.
âYeah?â He questioned making sure he heard her right. She nodded. The smile on Harryâs face was blinding as he pulled her into his arms and kissed me silly.
As we ate, the couple decided that Lou would drive Brianne and Rhys to the site when Rhys woke. It would give Harry a bit of time to focus on his walk about before the service. Mark and Jamie would also stay behind and go in the car with Brianne and Rhys.
It was two hours late and Rhys was sipping a juice box in the back seat of a Land Rover. Mark was driving to the Arboretum. âMommy ⌠are we rweally going to see Harry?â Rhys asked as he watched the scenery pass by the passenger window of the car.
âYes, pip squeak. Weâre going to see the Remembrance Day Service that Harry is attending.â Brianne told her son.
âIs that why Iâm all dressed?â He asked rubbing his hands on his khaki pants. Brianne nodded. Jamie told Brianne it would be for the best if they dressed up for the service; so Rhys was dressed in a checked shirt, khaki pants and a tailored for him sport coat. Brianne wore an off-the-rack Rue 21 Soft Pink Lace Long Sleeve Skater Dress with her Stella McCartney Florence Camel coat and match clutch. Jamie had everything matched out to a T.
The rover had pulled up just as the doors to the Arboretum were opening and people were milling around going to their seats.
Jamie showed Brianne and Rhys to their seats and Rhys, being shy, climbed on his motherâs lap. Harry spotted them and stepped away from his conversation to say hello. He was weary about who was around, so he came over to Rhys and pretended to introduce himself.
âDonât be silly, Harry,â Rhys replied. âYou live with mommy and I.â Brianne blushed at her sonâs nonchalance and hoped no one around them saw them.
Harry squatted near Brianne and took in her vanilla perfume. âThanks for coming.â He whispered in her ear and she nodded at him. She could see how sincere he was â it was written all over his face. It meant so much to him to have her there with him. He was much more comfortable with her around. Harry noticed some people motioning for him. âGotta fly, love you.â She grinned and hugged her son close to her as she watched him walk away.
Before they knew it, Harry was standing in the front of the centre, which held nearly 500 people, mostly veterans, ready to lay the wreath of poppies during the service. Rhys was a good detractor for Brianne who wanted to be at Harryâs side but had to watch her son and keep him in check. Behind the mother and son were Jamie and Mark, in case anything should happen they needed to whisk her and Rhys out.
After Harry spoke for a few minutes, he and the head of the centre laid their wreaths. The whole congregation then stood for a recitation of âGod Save the Queen.â Rhys joined in during some parts but Brianne watched as everyone pledged allegiance and love to her boyfriendâs grandmother. She watched as Harry mumbled through the words, his eyes watering.
Once the service was over, Harry made a beeline for the chef and her son, who immediately wanted to cling to Harry. The prince, even though he knew eyes would be on him, handed his hat to Jamie and picked up Rhys who laid his head on Harryâs shoulder.
âIt was nice to see you again Your Royal Highness,â a middle-aged woman interrupted their moment.
Harry smiled and nodded still holding Rhys. Â âYou too. Iâll be back,â he promised. Brianne figured the woman wasnât important to Harry if he wasnât introducing either of his guests. A few other people lined up to say goodbye to Harry and Brianne was relegated to holding her now-sleeping son and being pushed to the wall with Jamie and Mark.
âHeâs the most popular royal,â Mark said to Brianne to soothe her nerves. âHe likes to make things personal.â
âI just donât know,â Brianne replied softly. âI donât want to be always relegated to the back.â Mark nodded as they noticed Harry leaving. She saw him get into her black Rover not the silver one he took.
âGo,â Mark instructed. She nodded and had Lou open the door for her because she had her son in her hands. Cameras were out from visitors and press alike as Harry slid over to Brianneâs side, grabbed Rhys and allowed her to climb in.
Rhys slept on Harryâs chest the whole two hour trip back to Kensington Palace. Harry also fell asleep on the ride back but Brianneâs mind kept replaying Harryâs cold shoulder when he was given attention
âWhatâs wrong, beautiful?â Harry whispered as they pulled into the gates of Kensington Palace. Brianne didnât even realize Harry was awake.
âRhys,â she sniffled. âHeâs missed that closeness with a father figure.â
âIâm sure he has,â Harry nodded. âBrianne, heâs not lacking a father figure â heâs your dad and me. We all love him. Rhys will never want for anything.â
As the trio went into the Palace, Harry took Rhys to his room for a nap and turned on Peppa Pig.
âYouâre so good with him,â Brianne whispered as she watched the interaction.
âYeah?â He asked shrugging
âYeah,â she replied.
âWith Rhys ⌠itâs so easy,â Harry explained quietly.
Brianne pulled the blankets back on the bed and helped Harry tuck her baby boy in. When she turned to see if Harry was following, she found Harry, still in dress, sitting on the edge of Rhysâ bed. Harry was quiet for several minutes, seemingly lost in thought before leaning over and kissing Rhys, whispering that he loved him.
âLove you, too, Harry.â Rhys mumbled before turning over and curling around Paddington Bear.

Brianne had clammed up after hearing Harryâs admission of love to Rhys while he slept. She wasnât sure how to feel. Did she feel the same way too? Luckily for her, he had a weeksâ worth of engagements after her birthday so they didnât have time to talk, at least of the heavy conversation this would have required.
Needless to say, the conversation weighed on her heart. It wasnât until Harry found her crying in his bed that he felt essential to address it. Tears glistened in her eyes as he reached out.
âBrianne,â he began sliding into bed. Â âI want to love you too. Please let me.â
She nodded eagerly. âPlease.â Â She looked down, fidgeting with her shirt. He lifted her chin to meet his eyes.
âBrianne, whatâs wrong?â
She shook her head and mumbled. âNothing.â
âCâmere.â Brianne didnât hesitate to crawl into his lap, snuggling against him. He wasnât about to complain, relishing holding her in his arms.
He dropped several heavy kisses along Brianneâs freckled shoulder. Her expression was serious as she gazed at him but he couldnât quite read the look in her eyes. Their foreheads touched but she squeezed her eyes closed. âWhy are you so good to me?â
I took a deep breath and let it out slowly. âBecause Iâm so in love with you.â He stopped between every word contemplating his moves.
âI love you, too.â Her words were merely a breath ghosting from her lips, but her message was received loud and clear as she wrapped her arms around him and kissed him with abandon. Fingers tangled in his hair â the warmth of her skin radiated through the thin fabric covering her.
âShirt off,â Brianne commanded, releasing her grasp on his ginger hair.
Harry nodded, reaching down to grab the hem, tugging the white shirt over his head. Opening his eyes, he found Brianne had shed her tank top as well. She took to straddling his lap and looked so much like a scared kitten â her blue eyes wide and hopeful as she chewed on her lip.
To Harry, Brianne was truly a vision. âSo beautiful.â
Unable to refrain from touching her any longer, he ghosted his rough hands down her arms, stopping at her hands as he brought them to his lips, reverently. Their eyes never broke contact â showing her how much he love and adored her.
âHarry,â she begged quietly, âplease, Â l-love m-me.â
His breathe caught in his throat. âI do, baby. So fucking much.â
Carefully, he turned her in his arms so he was hovering over her and began to kiss down her body â worshipping  the female body. Cautious hands held Harry at armâs length, but they soon realized they needed each otherâs touch. He kissed his way back up her body from her small ankles to her strong calves, pausing for a moment at her right knee because there was a small scar there.
âWhatâs this from?â he asked softly.
âLater, Harry. I need you,â She whimpered.
Kissing up her shapely thighs, he stopped at her summit, his blue eyes shifting between the lace covering her and her eyes.
Brianne watched him with spellbound attention as he traced the top of her lace covered panties with my finger. Her chest rose and fell in quick succession as she pulled at his broad shoulders. She leaned up to meet him and he reached behind her, caressing the soft skin at her back. With a quick flick of his two fingers, her lace bra fell.
Carefully laying her down again, he kissed her lips and tossed her bra aside.
Gulping, she requested. âPlease, Harry. Touch me.â
She neednât beg but he was set on taking his time with her. Cradled between the perfection of her long legs, he savored the feel of skin on skin; her softness against the hard planes of his chest as he kissed her long and languidly. A faint sob emitted from Brianneâs lips as he kissed down her neck, leaving a wet kiss just behind her ear.
âBrianne,â he breathed. âAre you all right, beautiful?â
She nodded. âIâm overwhelmed. No one has ever made me feel like this before, Harry. Completely adored and- and so very loved.â
âYou are, my beautiful Brianne,â he held. âAnd Iâve only just begun.â He kissed her once more on the mouth before working his way down her chest, finally taking a good look at full, perfect breasts. Dark, rosy nipples peeked up at me as he caressed Brianneâs soft flesh. He continued exploring, working down to her navel and stomach.
Brianne quickly moved her hands to cover the skin.
âDonât cover up, Brianne.â Harry said.
âHarry, my stretch marks from my pregnancy,â she responded breathy.
âAre barely noticeable, Bri,â he said. âI mean it when I tell you that you are absolutely beautiful â inside and out. Please, relax and enjoy this, Brianne.â
He tugged gently on the lace situated on her hips and pulled it down just enough to kiss each hipbone. Brianne didnât resist but did give a hearty sigh, to which Harry realized why when he pulled the lace down. A pale pink scar about three inches long. He ghosted my finger across it, guessing it was a c-section scar, reverently kissing, thankful for both mother and son.
âHarry,â she urged. Â âI n-need y-you.â
She was so desperate she began to stutter and it was a mixture of adorable and sexy in just the right amounts. âAre you sure?â
She nodded and he crawled back up her body, unable to keep from kissing her again.
âYes, Harry. I want you to make love to me.â
Little fingers pushed at the waistband of my boxers and he helped her to push them the rest of the way down before kicking them off. He finally pulled off the offending lace. Brianne was bare and absolutely gorgeous splayed out on the king sized bed. She reached out for him. When she wrapped her legs around my hips, they both felt Brianneâs arousal..
âProtection, baby. We need protection,â He breathed against the sweet skin of her neck.
She shook her head. âIâm on the pill, Harry. I want to feel you, please.â
Reaching down, he aligned myself with her warm, wet core and gently pushed into her. He humbly watched Brianneâs expressions for any sign of pain because they both knew it had been well over a year since sheâd last been with anyone. She was incredibly tight and felt oh-so-good wrapped around his cock.
Brianne exhaled deeply to Harryâs contentment. âIâm okay, Harry. Itâs been a while, but Iâll be fine. You feel so good inside me.â
With her go ahead, he took charge - moving his hips, grinding against her, pushing further into her until he was completely buried within her only to pull out and repeat. He was slow and steady.
âJesus, Brianne,â he remarked. âYou feel so, so good.â
âYes,â She hissed. âHarry, Â I want your mouth on me, please.â Brianne didnât have to ask twice - he captured one pert nipple in his mouth, circling it over and over with his tongue. âOh, God, yes, Harry. That feels incredible.â
She whimpered with each rock in. âIâm close. You feel too good.â
âMe too,â he breathed as he continued to rock against her. Not wanting to not cum together, he quickened pace. A thin sheen of sweat covered their chests as he kissed up to her soft lips.
He couldnât hold back, nuzzling his face into her neck, kissing her roughly as he spilled into her; his orgasm triggered by the fluttering and clenching of her muscles around my cock. Brianneâs grip around his shoulders tightened as she held on for dear life.
âI love you,â She sniffled. âSo much.â
âI love you too, Brianne.â He said before kissing her and rolling on his back. Â Regaining consciousness, he cuddled up to her side. She immediately turned into him falling into a sated, blissful sleep.

Chapter Forty Nine
Birthdays werenât something Brianne celebrated in a long, long time. Her twenty-first was the last one she could really remember celebrating. Her pals had taken her out and they celebrated in the United States. Â
Twenty-seven.
Never in a million years did she imagine at twenty-seven she would be a single mom with a son, who had a Wilms tumor, but was doing wonderfully. Never at twenty-seven would she expect that she would be seeing a prince.Â
Never. Ever.
After her scare with the break-in, Lou was able to get her out of the contract with the landlady, and she had been playing house with Harry. He was going to engagements as needed, she would cook, clean and be the dutiful mother to Rhys.Â
The Queen had expressed her concern over Brianne and Rhys staying with Harry, at Kensington Palace, but he had told her it was necessary, especially because he was concerned about her safety.Â
She had suggested Brianne moving closer to Kensington, but Harry had none of it. When Charles stepped in on Harryâs behalf, the Queen looked the other way.
Catherine made a cherry and almond cake for Brianne. After the Cambridgeâs went home, Brianne, Harry and Rhys sat on his living room couch catching up on some âDoctor Who.â Rhys took bigger bites than he probably should have, which made Brianne chuckle.Â
Her day couldnât have been any better.Â
As they sat on the couch, Brianne wrapped in the Princeâs arms, they realized how quiet it was and they looked over to see Rhys sound asleep on the floor. He was out cold and Harry wanted nothing more than to give Brianne some alone time
Harry picked up Rhys and took him to bed, while Brianne cleaned up, on her insistance. When she was done, they both tucked Rhys into bed. Brianne carefully checked to make sure that his nightlight was on and kissed him goodnight.Â
Once out of his room and into the hall, Harry tugged on Brianneâs hand and pulled her to him.Â
She had internally battled with this decision for several days. Her birthday was supposed to be special and lovely as she felt with Harry.Â
As soon as the door was closed, Harry softly made lip contact. She whimpered as her backed her against the door.
âHarry,â she whispered.
He could feel her tense slightly in his arms. âHmm?â He pulled back to look at her. Brianneâs eyes were wide and he saw panic.
âBrianne?â I asked softly, hoping my voice would help to relax her.
She wrapped her arms around my waist and nuzzled her face into my chest. He enveloped her in a hug and cradled her head in his hand. âTalk to me. Whatâs wrong?â
A soft chuckle erupted from her chest as she clung to Harry. âI think Iâm letting my nerves get the best of meâÂ
âItâs just me, Brianne. Thereâs no pressure here, but I canât help the fact that I want to kiss you silly right now because itâs your birthday.â He admitted before kissing her temple.
âYeah?â She asked, looking up at him from under her thick lashes.
âYeah,â he grinned.
She scoffed as he felt the tension in her body leave her. âEven with my little freak out?â
âEven with your mini panic attack. However, Iâm going to have one of my own if you donât let me kiss you.â Brianne reached up on her toes and kissed him. He was the first to break the kiss, needing to make sure that she was okay. âWant to go sit in the hot tub for a bit?â
âSure.â She smiled. He watched as she pulled her swimsuit from the top of one of her several suitcases (she didnât feel right using a chest of drawers in his house yet, though Rhys was all moved in) and disappeared into the bathroom. He quickly pulled on shorts and knocked on the door gently.
âBri? Iâll be outside.â He heard some consenting noise and he went outside to turn on the jets . The evening air was balmy, but the warm water felt good.
âYou look content,â Brianne said quietly as she dipped her toes into the water.
She was wearing a cobalt blue bikini. Her hair was swept up on her head and there was no trace of what little makeup sheâd been wearing earlier. No matter, because to Harry she looked exquisite as she stepped carefully into the hot tub.Â
âAnd you look beautiful, Beautiful Brianne.â He couldnât help but tell her. Sheâd never shown so much skin before, and I felt like a kid in a candy store. He took her right hand and pulled it up to place a kiss on her knuckles. She turned and looked at me as I continued to hold her hand. She wore a dainty Claddagh ring on her thumb and Harry tried to rack his brain as to if he ever saw it before.
âIs this new?â He asked curiously?
âNo,â she said. âIâve had it for a long time. I donât wear it often because Iâm afraid Iâll lose it or damage it.â
âDoes it have significant meaning?â Harry kicked himself for asking after the question had been out.
Brianne nodded. âMy dad gave it to me. My mother loved Claddaghs, coming from her Irish heritage, so for her engagement ring, he bought her it. He figured it would give me a little piece of my mom to carry with me always.â Tears sparkled in her blue eyes as she explained the huge significance of such a small piece of jewelry.
âOh, B, I love the meaning behind it.â Harry admitted.
â I miss her.â Brianne said contemplating her words. âI wish that she was here, she would love Rhys and you.â
Taking the silence as cue, Harry pulled her closer and situated her on his lap. He wanted to soothe her. She wrapped her arms around him and nuzzled against his neck, something she had taken to doing after her flatâs burglary. Iit was comforting to her and Harry enjoyed the close, intimate nature of it.
After a deep sigh, her fingers began to play with the hair at the nape of Harryâs neck, and she felt her lips press against my damp skin.
Brianne raised her head and looked up at him  before brushing her lips against his. Her fingers tightened in his hair, and he instinctively pulled her closer as their tongues slid languidly against each other. She shivered as he placed kisses down her neck and across her collar bone.
âCold?â he asked giggling.
âNo, but I am getting a little pruney,â he replied. Watching Brianne step gracefully from the water as drops cascaded down her slender legs was a sight to behold â her porcelain skin aglow from the flame of the lanterns that surrounded their outdoor oasis.
Back in the bedroom, she was wearing soft cotton shorts and a tank top. Her hair tumbled down around her shoulders. Brianne seemed completely relaxed as she smiled lazily at Harry who was coming from the shower.
âIâm going to check in on Rhys. Did you need anything?â He asked a towel around his shoulders and shorts on.
âNo,â she giggled. âI just peeked in on him and got us some water while I was at it.â She was touched Harry worried that maybe sheâd think it was strange since heâs not technically his responsibility. âHarry, itâs okay if you want to check on him.â
âYeah?â he asked nervously, running hands through his damp hair.
He smiled as he stepped into the room next door to check on Rhys. He was sound asleep in the center of his bed; his little body curled around the stuffed Paddington bear, Harry had gotten him. He slept so peacefully; an angelic expression on his face.Â
How in the world Walter could deny this amazing little boy was beyond Harry. Heâd only been in Harryâs life for a few short months and already heâd made a profound impact. Not only was he falling in love with Brianne, Harry admitted to himself was falling in love with Rhys too. It was a feeling that grew every day by leaps and bounds. Harry pressed a kiss to Rhysâs forehead â completely unable to stop myself.
âI love you, kiddo,â Harry whispered softly placing a lick of his hair behind his ear.
From the doorway, Brianne gasped at the sight, quiet tears trailing down her face.
âIâm sorry, H. I didnât mean to intrude. When you didnât come right back, I worried something was wrong.â Brianne sniffled.
âYou donât every have to apologize. Letâs talk in the other room so we donât wake him okay?âÂ
As soon as we were back in the privacy of my room, Brianne rounded on him.âDid you mean what you said?â
The royal nodded. âWith all of my heart.â
Chapter Forty Eight Part II
As she parked her car, a police man greeted her and a sleeping Rhys.
âExcuse me, you canât be here,â the officer told her.
She froze. âI live here. There.â She said pointing to where the door was opened and lights were coming out of windows from police flashlights. âCan you tell me what is going on?â
âI need some form of identification, maâam,â he replied coolly. When she took out her permit, she texted Lynn. âMaâam, I regret to inform you someone broke into your house. You and him canât stay here tonight.â
Brianne must have gone into shock because I couldnât move from her spot. Not wanting to want to wake her father, or her son, she texted Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, hoping he would have an answer. He always had answers.
It wasnât until she felt something shaking her that I realized that Lynn had rushed over and was trying to get my attention.
âBrianne, Harry wants to talk to you,â Lynn said softly handing her the phone.
âBrianne? Baby, are you okay?â Harry asked worriedly on the other side of the line.
Brianne felt tears prick at her eyes. âThey broke into my flat.â She wasnât sure if it was a question or a statement because she was still in shock. The condo had an alarm system and she assumed Denmark Hill was a safe neighborhood. Things like break-ins just didnât happen â or so she thought.
âI know they did, Brianne. Iâm so sorry. Iâve asked Lou to go back to London immediately and make sure you and Rhys are okay until I get back.â He said assertively. Brianne looked at the time on her dashboard â 11:30 p.m. How could Harry be so assertive at that time of the night. It wasnât until she realized it was earlier where he was at.
âHarry,â she whispered, âwhat if they had broken in while I was home?â
âYou werenât, Brianne,â he said, âyouâre safe and Rhysâs safe. Anything that they may have taken can be replaced.â His words that were meant to be soothing were biting. Who knew what they had taken, she had been home and in the park for an hour already and not let into her condo?
She knew she didnât have any expensive jewelry or money stowed away. Most everything she owned of value was more sentimental than monetary. It was then that she realized that Harry couldnât possibly be aware of that fact.
âBrianne?â Harry asked after she was quiet for far too long. âDo you need me to come home? Because if you do, Iâll be on the next flight out.â
âNo, Harry. I canât ask you to do that,â Brianne chided. âYou donât need to worry about me. Lynn and the baby will help me tonight and then, Rhys and I can go back and stay with my dad.â
âYou donât need to do that, Bri. You, Rhys, Lynn and baby Mark can stay at Kensington for as long as you want. Thereâs plenty of room there for you lot,â he told her.
Brianne watched as Lynn animatedly spoke with the police officers who had responded to his call. Lynn repeatedly pointed toward her in the car before finally motioning for her to join them.
âOkay,â she whispered. âHarry, I need to go, the police want to speak with me. I will call you back later after we get to your house.â
âOkay. I love you, Brianne.â He said before hanging up the call.
After she was sure he was off the line, she quietly replied, âI love you too, Harry.â
A couple hours later, they finally walked through the front door of Kensington. She had to do a walkthrough of her flat with one of the officers whoâd responded and confirm if anything was missing. Several  photo albums were opened and photos were missing but nothing was missing.
âHonestly, Mrs. Evans, I think it may have been a low-life pap who wanted some information. You said that the paps knew where you lived?â The officer asked. âWhoever did it was aware that you had an alarm and they were able to override it somehow because the box inside says itâs ready to arm. Is it possible that you forgot to set it when you left?â
âNo,â Brianne said defensibly.
âEverything will be okay, Brianne.â William said as he came into Harryâs house. Word didnât travel to slow. âHarry said to put you guys in his bedroom, is that okay?â William took Rhys from Brianneâs arms and started up the stairs.
âYeah, thatâs fine for tonight, William. Thank you.â Brianne said continuing to talk to the officer.
Once the officer left, Brianne headed upstairs to kiss her son goodnight, again.
âBrianne?â William called before he left the room.
âYeah?â She responded.
âIâm going to get your stuff out of the car â please call Harry and let him know youâre here. Heâll be worried, I expect.â She pulled her phone out  and dialed Harryâs number.
He answered on the second ring. âBrianne? Are you at the house?â
âYeah, William just brought Rhys upstairs, and we got him tucked into bed.â
âGood.â He sighed. âHow are you doing?â
âIâm scared to death, Harry. How do you think Iâm doing?â she snapped. âThey broke into my home â a place where Iâm supposed to feel safe and they took pictures of me and my son.â
âWhat do you mean they took pictures?â Harry asked confused.
She started to cry before explaining what happened in detail to Harry. âThey pulled out my photo albums and took pictures out of them and left the albums sitting on the coffee table. The also rifled through some drawers.â
âReally?â He shouted. âDid the cops say they thought it might be paps?â
âYeah,â she sniffled.
âBrianne, Iâm so sorry. I hate that Iâm so far away. I donât want you to worry â youâre safe at my house and there is extra security going over to your house so they donât try to get in again.â Truthfully, Brianne hated that he was so far away too. She was dreading calling my dad to tell him â as Brianne knew that heâd want to come over and singlehandedly pack up the flat and move them back to his house. Even more, she was dreading telling Rhys why they werenât at home sleeping in their own beds.
âThis isnât your fault â I just ⌠I miss you and I feel a little alone in this.â Brianne muttered before waving a hand in thanks at William who had just dropped off a few suitcases. She felt so defeated. She felt like Iâd accomplished something being able to provide for Rhys on her own.
If it was in fact a pap who had broken in â which everyone had no doubt it was, everyone felt much more insecure.
âI donât want to be a burden to anyone, Harry.â Brianne said softly remembering her son was sleeping. âI just,  I wanted to do this on my own â to make my way and provide for myself and Rhys. I was proud of myself but now  Iâm scared. Even with the alarm, Iâd feel unsafe. Anyway, tomorrow Iâll call my land lady and see what she says. Iâm not sure sheâll let me out of my lease because Iâm scared of intruders.â
Harry was able to chuckle a bit in light of the situation. âWhy donât you forward her information to Lou tonight and Iâll have him take care of it?â
âYeah, okay,â Brianne said before a yawn. After they had said their good nights, she had fell dead weight onto the bed.
Feeling a rack of sobs come on, Brianne sat up and went over to a chair in Harryâs room. It hurt even more that Harryâs room smelled like him.
Regaining some semblance of life, she cleaned up and quickly changed into her  pajamas before slipping between the cool sheets of Harryâs bed. Settling her head on his pillow, she sighed, letting the heaviness of the evening surround her.
Announcement
I'm just clarifying that I had already had the next three chapters written before the announcement of Harry and Megan Markel came out from Kensington Palace. I don't want to seem insensitive or that I'm copying life. The next three chapters were written three weeks ago during chemo. If you have any issues or concerns - please feel free to voice them. Otherwise, let Harry and Megan have their privacy!
Chapter Forty Eight Part I
After saying goodbye to Harry for 10 days, while he traveled to the the Caribbean, Brianne and Rhys travelled the two hours to Gatcombe Park, where the Tindallâs cottage was located. Â They were spending Thursday through Sunday night at the cottage.
While Brianne enjoyed spending the time with the woman and children of his family, she sorely missed Harry. Rhys did too. He would clam up and hang onto Brianne when asked a question he was uncomfortable with.
Autumn Phillips (Harryâs cousin Peterâs wife) and Zara both went out of their way to make them feel at home. Including sending George, Charlotte and Rhys with Catherine outside to the horses on Gatecombeâs farm.
Sophie joined us in clearing away breakfast during Fridayâs breakfast and the conversation continued between the four of them. Zara assured me that she trusted the feelings Brianne had for her cousin, as did Sophie. They were eager to get to know the woman and her son who had stolen away Harryâs heart.
Brianne found myself missing Harry more than ever since their weekend together travelling for Invictus. She wasnât sure if it was because they had solidified our relationship by going incredibly close.
The next morning, Zara announced that the girls were going to spend the day at a spa and Camilla, who had entered as if on cue, would watch her nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.
When Brianne argued, Camilla stopped her and said that she wanted nothing more than to spend the day with the little boy she would love to one day consider her grandson. Rhys beamed and jumped into Camillaâs waiting arms.
Catherine had to remind her Camilla was a natural mother and grandmother already.
âWell, I guess that would be okay,â Brianne finally succumbed.
Having the spa to themselves, the girls felt like such lushes - relaxing at the spa; sipping on delicious wines while getting a facial, massage, pedicure and manicure. Some parts of the conversation, like which tiara Catherine was going to wear at the next State Dinner, that Brianne felt uncomfortable inserting herself into.
Coming home, Camilla had dinner already ready for the women. Rhys, George and Charlotte were sleeping in a room, Autumnâs children, Savannah and Isla, as well as Mia Tindall, were in another room and Soprhieâs children, Louise and James, were upstairs watching television in a third bedroom.
On Sunday, Zara, Catherine and Brianne went to St. James City Farm, near Gatcome, for fresh local produce, artisan cheeses and fresh cut meat. Zara persuaded Brianne to make a great spread for dinner and she spent a great deal of the afternoon preparing dinner, making everything fresh from scratch. It may not have been in her Denmark Hill kitchen or even Harryâs for that matter but it seemed that Zara had everything I needed.
âOh man, is Henry missing out,â Catherine grinned as she came into the kitchen to pour herself a glass of tea. âI know you miss him, Brianne. He misses the hell out of you, too. William said he has texted him every day to check in on you.â
After a dinner of roasted lamb, roast potato, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, vegetables and gravy, everyone helped Brianne packed up her car.
Rhys must have chatted non-stop for several hours about everything he experienced over the weekend.
When the duo rounded the corner of Brianneâs apartment, they found police lights on their street and a police car situated in front of her condo.

Chapter Forty-Seven
Brianne had just put a plate of spaghetti and meat sauce in front of Harry and Rhys when Zara Philips walked into Harryâs house, unannounced.
âHenry!â She called, wiping her feet on the welcome mat. âHenry.â At the dining room table, Rhys and Harry were enjoying each other company, when Zara walked in seeming unaware she was disrupting time together. âHenry. There you are. Have you talked to Brianne and Anne yet?â
He looked up and shot her a glare. Upon hearing her name, Brianne looked into the room. âNo.â
âWell, you should.â Zara said before turning and making her way into the kitchen. âHello Brianne.â Brianne smiled a cautious smile. âIâm Zara Philips-Tindal. Just a handshake would suffice.â Brianne took her outstretched hand.
âHello,â it was the first time the two were officially meeting, but Zara had heard about Brianne through the royal grapevine of Catherine and William. âCare to stay for dinner? Spaghetti and meat sauce.â
They shared a laugh when Harry yelled from the other room about her leaving. âNo, thank you. I was passing through the neighborhood saying hello to Lottie and Georgie-porgie, I figured Iâd stop by to annoy my favorite cousin.â
âYou did it,â he responded. Brianne smiled as Zara walked herself out.
âSheâs so annoying, and after 30 some years, I can say that with definition,â Harry said placing his empty plate in the sink. He wrapped his arms around Brianneâs waste as she plated dinner for her. âZara wants to whisk you and Rhys away to Aston Farm. Autumn, The Countess of Wessex and Catherine and all the royal tots will be there too. The weekend I go away to the Caribbean.â
âAre you okay with that?â she asked turning in his arms.
âBrianne, Iâd love for you to go and visit with my family,â Harry smiled letting her go so she can eat dinner. The truth was, Bri was a little intimidated by his cousins â especially Zara. She walked around like she owned her royal status, even though she really wasnât a working royal. It was silly really â Brianne thought but she had her reasons.
After dinner, and getting Rhys a bath, the couple had long since talked about it and he told her how heâd felt. She, in turn, felt horrible, but like Harry told her , it was in the past and we were very much looking forward to the future.
