The DCS in Digital Systems Security is offered through CTU's Institute for Advanced Studies to develop leaders in the implementation, evaluation and analysis of digital systems in which security is a primary component.

This 3-year Doctoral program is designed to help provide candidates with the theoretical, research and application capabilities necessary to pursue career opportunities in Digital Systems Security. The program includes twelve 5-credit instructional courses, taken one per quarter for three years, in addition to one research and writing class taken each quarter. Each class is taken online. Twice each year, students attend an intensive residential symposium lasting four and a half days.

  Coursework is focused on teaching students how to demonstrate expertise within a sub-discipline of Digital Systems Security by summarizing the state of the art, selecting an important problem, conducting research addressing the problem and extending current knowledge with the results. Students are challenged to make well-founded forecasts about future challenges and developments in Digital Systems Security. They are also required to communicate their research results and prepare them for publication. Students have the option to complete a dissertation or four publishable papers as part of the DCS degree.

See how kissing the frog all started for many John Hopkins PhD graduates. Seems to be a tradition now.

Kissing the Frog, the unusual tradition of hugging and kissing the school’s courtyard frog sculpture, was started in 1999 by Karin Coyne. Coyne, the first Johns Hopkins doctoral nursing student to defend her dissertation, celebrated her accomplishment by embracing and kissing the inanimate four-foot fiddling amphibian.

As more students completed the doctoral program, many followed her lead and began their celebrations of success with a frog smooch. During the ensuing decade, the numbers of doctoral students doubled and tripled, but the tradition began to wane. The Fiddling Frog continued his silent serenade by the courtyard fountain. The shrubbery around the fountain grew and began to invade his mushroom perch. The tradition was eventually forgotten—until this year, when the magic returned.

The AUNE PhD program is one of only twenty-two doctoral programs in marriage and family therapy accredited by COAMFTE in the United States.

COAMFTE has also renewed accreditation for AUNE's master's program in marriage and family therapy for six years. That program has been accredited since 1993.

COAMFTE accredits master's, doctoral and postgraduate degree clinical training programs in marriage and family therapy in the United States and Canada. To become accredited, AUNE's program had to be extensively assessed by COAMFTE's external evaluators to make sure it meets the standards set by the profession.

Michael Brenner earned a doctorate in education from the prestigious Teachers College at Columbia University in 2010, assuming a degree from an Ivy League institution would open numerous doors for him and bolster his chances for success entering the field of corporate consulting. However, after starting his own leadership and team-building consulting firm, he finds the doctorate has added little value to his business. "At this point, I would say that attending graduate school was not worth the cost," he says. "However, I recognize that it is early in this venture and the doctorate may pay off financially in the future."

According to a recent study on the economic value of college areas of study by the Georgetown Center on Education and the Workforce. Among the 15 fields of study analyzed in the report, median earnings of those with a graduate degree in the field, irrespective of tenure, are an average of 38.3 percent higher than those who only possess a bachelor's degree in the same field. Biology and life science majors earn 70 percent more with graduate degrees in those disciplines than those with bachelor's degrees in the same field and social science workers with graduate degrees earn 55 percent more than their counterparts with bachelor's degrees, according to the study.

For the first time in 50 years, N.C. Central University will offer a Ph.D. program. Learn more about the type program they are offering.

The UNC system Board of Governors has approved a NCCU request to plan a doctor of philosophy program in integrated biosciences, only the second doctoral program in the university's 100-year history. If all goes according to schedule, the program would accept its first students in fall 2012, and could award its first degrees four years later.

"This is a historic degree -- not a history degree, but a historic degree," university Chancellor Charlie Nelms told the school's Board of Trustees Wednesday. "I want to thank my predecessors -- Chancellors Julius Chambers and James Ammons -- for making our science programs so strong. This is an area of great strength for us."

Find out how the University of Alaska at Fairbanks is doing to attract the best graduate students. They are expanding their facilities to compete with other great universities around the nation and who wouldn't want to attend college in the great state of Alaska.

Contractors in Fairbanks are on a fast-track schedule with the University of Alaska Fairbanks' new $108 million Biological Sciences Building, and the plan is to have steel erected and the building closed in by Oct. 1, according to Brian Barnes, director of UAF's Institute of Arctic Biology, which will occupy the building when it is finished.

The new building will contain new and expanded laboratories for research, and more space for teaching. It will replace antiquated, cramped facilities now being used that have threatened to impair the university's ability to attract research funding, faculty and students.

However, with the biological sciences building soon to be a reality, Barnes is now on a happy hunt for new research faculty and plans a recruiting drive to attract more undergraduate students in the biological sciences field.
