hot take but i think they still shouldve let sam be a little angry at cas after the s6 finale. like im just saying if someone willingly destroyed my mind to the point where i couldnt tell what was real or not and i was being sleep deprived for days on end from torture hallucinations, you would see me on the fucking news. and like. cas didn't even do that bc he had to or anything, he did that just so that dean would have to choose between saving sam or stopping him, that's the worst part
what really gets me about sam hate is that 99% of the things he’s hated for, when applied to real life situations, are things that no-one should be hated for. not only that, but hating people for the things that sam is hated for would be considered victim blaming (that’s a mouthful)
hating someone for wanting to go to college and live their own life, instead of the unsafe and dangerous life their parent and sibling want them to live is not okay
hating someone for escaping an abusive household is not okay
hating someone for not trying to contact their family, after said family disowned them for going to college, is not okay
hating someone for having an addiction is not okay
hating someone for keeping something about themself a secret (especially if the person they’re keeping it secret from has previously shown how judgmental they are towards the things they’re hiding) is not okay
hating someone for trusting the wrong person, even tho that person went to extraordinary lengths to gain their trust, is not okay
hating someone for not blindly following their sibling’s every command is not okay
hating someone for unknowingly participating in causing something awful to happen, even tho they thought they were actually stopping the awful thing from happening, (especially when they willingly sacrificed themself and spend several lifetimes suffering in order to fix their mistake) is not okay
hating someone because they respected a mutual agreement and because they tried to move on with their life after losing someone is not okay
hating someone for trying to set boundaries after a person they trusted violated their bodily autonomy and for telling said person that they wouldn’t do the same thing to them is not okay
hating someone for expressing basic human emotions in a way that harms no-one is not okay
hating someone for standing up for themself is not okay
meanwhile 99% of the shit for which dean gets a pass, when applied to real life situations, would horrify any semi decent human being
telling your sibling that they deserved to be abused because they were out of line (in which being out of line actually means “you wanted to live your own life”) is not okay
vilifying someone for something they can’t change about themself is not okay
acting judgmental towards an aspect of someone’s life and then getting mad at them for keeping secrets regarding that same aspect is not okay
using someone’s faith to manipulate them into doing what you want is not okay
getting mad at someone for saving people’s lives, because you don’t like the method they’re using, is not okay
forcing someone into a torture-detox that almost kills them, then stalking them, calling them names, forcing them to choose between blindly following your every command and saving the world and then reducing the whole thing to “you chose someone else over me” is not okay
blaming someone for something you both unknowingly had a hand in, without taking responsibility for your own contribution, is not okay
deliberately hurting someone because their happy memories don’t include you is not okay
erasing someone’s memory without their consent is not okay
making someone’s mental illness all about yourself is not okay
blaming someone because another person cut their arm off (idk, this is the closest real life analogy to the soulless situation I can think of) is not okay
getting mad at someone for honouring a mutual agreement, berating them for leaving a job (a job you yourself had previously left) and going as far as shaming them for doing something as normal as shopping for produce instead of working is not okay
forcing someone to stay in a job they’re unhappy with is not okay
making someone think the person they love is in danger (especially if that someone already has a history of people they care about dying) is not okay
violating someone’s bodily autonomy and tricking them into allowing a foreign being inside their body without their consent, gaslighting them about it for months, making disgusting jokes about said violation, refusing to see the violated person’s point when they’re rightfully upset and not acknowledging that what you did was wrong, even after you went through the same experience, is not okay
telling someone that the upside of them being alive is that you need a sidekick is not okay
telling someone you wish they were dead is not okay
killing an innocent kid because of who their family is is not okay
literally trying to kill your sibling, repeatedly, is not okay (and I can’t believe I actually have to write this because the extents to which people will go to defend dean’s every action is /that/ ridiculous)
having a consistent pattern of doing things that you previously berated other people for doing is not okay
being misogynist, homophobic, ableist and racist because ~that’s just the way you were raised~ is not okay
trying to kill a child, telling said child that you will kill them and emotionally and verbally abusing them to the point of pushing them to self harm, because circumstances regarding their birth led to the death of people you care about and because their biological father is evil (two things they absolutely have no control over) is not okay
threatening a teenage girl with a gun because she doesn’t want to help you is not okay
acting entitled to know every detail about someone else’s life and getting mad at them for keeping secrets about themselves, all while you’re constantly keeping secrets, even about other people, is not okay
anyway my point is: sam hate isn’t actually about his actions, it’s about how the show and dean portray these actions. while dean negativity/hate (as rare as it is) is about his actions being objectively horrid
the scene where sam is warming his hands over the corpse they’re burning is so fucking funny
i wish we saw more moments of the winchesters just being so odd to the average person
god bless the ao3 users with public bookmarks who have the same taste as you and who read/bookmark often. love getting lost in someone's bountiful bookmarks for days, you're rly doing a public service

media literacy would automatically go up 100% if people knew how to consume stories without self-inserting themselves into the characters' shoes. "if i were him..." you're NOT. you may relate to his story, his past, his traits, his quirks, his identity but the moment you start treating the story accepting what you feel/think as what the character feels/thinks, you're misunderstanding the story.
The one thing supernatural managed to be consistent about in its 15 years was Sam’s lack of autonomy.
to yell about an argument done to death: even the language around sam in-show and amongst fans annoys me. sam didn't 'let lucifer out of the cage' which is a wording that implies he solely and singlehandedly opened the door - he unknowingly broke 1 of 66 locks on a door because he was being completely in the dark about lilith being a seal and what killing her would do.
dean unknowingly broke the first lock and started the entire thing but nobody in-show or amongst fans carry the same energy for dean as they do with sam even though neither knew what was happening or even that a seal was broken until it was too late. 'dean let lucifer out' never heard of her.
and then! dean's torture of people in hell is never brought up but sam gets this thrown in his face years and years and years later (by dean multiple times no less) and there's still the convenient ignorance of everything else surrounding this; angels let 64 seals break in the name of the heavenly plan, castiel sat on the truth about lilith of a year and opened the door to the panic room to push sam towards ruby and lilith, dean's voicemail was altered to send sam over the edge, dean was held captive by angels to prevent him getting to sam in time, the plan of heaven and hell was to isolate and crush sam mentally so he'd see lucifer as a grace and say yes, lilith dying by sam's psychic abilities was NEVER the requirement so dean stating he and bobby would kill lilith while sam was locked up in the panic room means she could've died a different way with the same result.
there are a lot of things about this that is so glossed over all the time. and it's just reduced to 'sam let lucifer out'. that exact phrasing. i hate it because it is truly not what happened. if anything he was the one that solved everything despite carrying the least amount of part in this. it was literally a collaborative effort manipulated by forces way beyond sam and dean, why is sam blamed for it by fans AND characters who had their own part in this.

I love how this isn’t even trying to beat Dean in Gym Shorts it’s setting more realistic goals

me reading straight up pornography: hmm… this one just doesn’t have enough accurate character psychoanalysis to get me off
Rip Azazel… I missed having a villain who was just constantly saying ‘Sam is my bestest, most favourite boy, the littlest meow meow ever, the centre of the world’. I think all SPN villains should follow his example
controversial opinion, but characters are so much more interesting when you are able to forget about shipping them for a moment and actually appreciate their unrelated personal plot/arc. if the most interesting thing you can think of about a character is the ship you like them with, then I don't think you actually like that character very much
people will act like a character being a little bit of a cunt sometimes is a flaw and not a positive trait but they are wrong
probably not a hot take but personally i dont think the heaven that we saw in 5.16 was either sam's or dean's organic heaven. i think it was heavily manipulated (by zachariah, who was actively in their heaven with them at the time) to drive a wedge between sam and dean, especially after 5.04 when his plan to show dean a 'future' where he doesn't say yes to michael, but sam says yes to lucifer backfired (i dont think that was a real future either but. whatever). every single looped memory being related to sam's escape from john is too much of a coincidence; it hurts even more to think about the fact that these memories weren't even explicit breakaways from dean. all of sam's placements within these memories have to do with getting away from john (john not putting any effort into thanksgiving, running away from john for two weeks, john telling him not to come back if he walked out of that door) while dean's were more explicitly tied to family. i think sam and dean were purposely killed and purposely 'allowed' to remember being in heaven all as part of zachariah's plan to force dean to say yes

Guys I just had the biggest realization, and you need to hear me out.
We all remember Sam being Bennys biggest hater without the biggest reason. Well, do ya’ll remember in season 4 when Sam got that email (it was false, but he didn’t know that, and still doesn’t know) from Dean saying: “Listen to me you bloodsucking freak. Dad always said I’d either have to save you or kill you. Well, I’m giving you a fair warning. I’m done trying to save. You’re a monster, Sam. A vampire. You’re not you anymore. And there’s no going back.” In that message Dean clearly says that the worst thing has happened, which is Sam basically turning into a vampire. So when Sam sees Dean having just accepted Benny, it hurts him. It hurts him so damn much, and he thinks it’s so unfair. Because if Dean has it in him to accept Benny, why couldn’t he Sam, when Sam needed him the most.
I don’t know if any of this makes any sense, but it made sense in my head. This is IN NO WAY Dean or Sam slander, it’s just a thought i got.
Hm. Your interpretation of this character displeases me. Guards! Take them away! Make them read the source material once more, and if that fails, the stocks.
