Did you know! There are over 1,500 species of Bamboo in the world. There are around 125 indigenous and 11 exotic species of Bamboo belonging to 23 genera are reportedly found in India. Bamboo is edible, most of them. A Panda’s diet is 99% made up of bamboo shoots, poles and leaves. Meet Kavita Malik - the dreamer of Karmaar. Kavita didi and her husband work at the quarry to feed their family of six. She dreams to send both her kids to an English-medium school and wants them to work at the Forest Department that sometimes pauses their flow of income. Meet Dr @charveepatel, a dentist, a philanthropist, and an Aspirational District Fellow. After practicing as a Dentist in Delhi she signed up for the SBI Youth for India Fellowship. She worked with the mewari communities of Eral, Chittorgarh. She worked on hygiene and health awareness amongst women and adolescent girls. She not only arranged different activities for the community to participate in but also designed a self help booklet to practice hygiene. She documented her journey in short film with the villagers on menstrual hygiene management called “Gullak”, and created a page @daughter.dear that celebrates women. It provides a space to other women and young girls to speak their mind. She is currently working as an Aspirational District Fellow at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. During this Pandemic (COVID-19), she has helped, working beside the district collector, communities in Hazaribag, Jharkhand, with necessary medical supplies and food supplies. When Roohi started her journey as an @sbi_yfi fellow with @gramvikasodisha she met a group of tribal women who were making artisanal soaps for a living called @angaisoap. These women were struggling and were facing challenges to keep the business running but their willingness to continue learning became her source of encouragement. Having an entrepreneurial experience, she helped these women to scale up their production, how to market their products, how to maintain the quality of the product. After fighting the battles of a corporate world she started her journey of seeking her purpose. She signed up for the @sbi_yfi fellowship where she worked with rural tribes of Odisha. She trained and successfully established an enterprise that makes ragi chips. It gives the women an opportunity to work from home, take care of their families, and helps them take charge of their finances. Miss Menon now works as a Programme Associate at the Avantika Foundation that encourages women, and creates awareness programs about local self-governance. A gold medalist in Mass Communication, specialised in Film Making (MIT Pune), and an A-level teacher at Bodhi International School, Jodhpur, teaching film making to media students. Taught and trained in The Kathak Dance form by the country’s greatest, @abhinavadance and Daksha Sheth dance company.
