A MARAUDER'S CHRISTMAS EVE [Mostly for Pete and Remus, but anyone is welcome]

The fire in the Gryffindor common room was roaring and the room was warm, even with the light blanket of snow falling from the ceiling. It fell down gently and covered the floor, but was not cold to touch. Simply a mirage. All of the usual Christmas decorations had been taken down, and had been replaced with the marauder’s special stash of decorations. Fortune telling baubles, tiny Santas hanging from the fireplace that sand rude versions of popular muggle Christmas carols, edible Christmas lights that continued to flash after you’d eaten them, and to one side of the common room, the Christmas tree. It was also covered in a light blanket of snow, and the small ornaments hanging from its branches spoke to the people passing by, occasionally offering holiday cheer but mostly offering bad Christmas jokes. On the top of the tree was an abnormally large star, and it had taken quite a few charms to keep it up there.

Sirius stood back to admire their work; yes, it was a job well done. There was hardly enough Gryffindor students left to care too much, and Sirius had promised McGonagall that he would have everything back to normal for Christmas night. But Christmas Eve was for them, for Moony to enjoy a Christmas night since he couldn’t have one.

Everyone had gone home on holiday, except a few people who decided to stay back as Remus had also. His parents weren’t exactly welcoming and he’d much rather stay with Sirius anyways. But Remus, as usual, was upstairs in his dorm, in his warm bed, reading a book that he’d read a thousand times. He chucked it into the waste paper basket near Sirius’ bed and rolled over frustratedly. Four days just about, and he’d be hating himself again once more. But he was unusually happy at the same time. Remus had almost everything he wanted, even though his life hadn’t given it to him in the first place. It was oddly reassuring for the future.

Remus smiled to himself; it wasn’t right to be down all the time, it was just plain pathetic to always throw yourself a pity party. He then rolled out of bed, going to find Sirius. Remus was already in just a plain white t-shirt that went under his normal attire and his loose school pants, but he didn’t feel like putting on a proper shirt, so he slipped on a grey sweater over his shirt then proceeded to head out of the dormitories and down into the common room. Taking one step off the last, his eyes widened. “What the hell…” Was all Remus said as he took a few more steps into the changed-room. His eyes scanned over everything, taking it all in through his widened, amber orbs. “S-Sirius?” Remus called out, his hands meeting the back of the couch that sat in the middle of the room. His lanky fingers curled around the back but his eyes were so many places else. It wasn’t as if he hadn’t seen magic before, that was a common occurrence, but this was Christmas magic.
