“I think the cost of a pizza is gonna be worth more than you driving me a coupla blocks, but sure, dude.” It wasn’t even like it was a hardship or anything. Peter was his friend after all. “Even though I’m paying, thanks for the ride.”

“Look at all this talk about the inflation of prices,” Peter chuckled, making a sharp turn down the road leading up to Cayden’s place. “No problem. I like sausage and mushrooms on my pizza, by the way.”

“I wouldn’t be your girl if you had to talk, baby, come on,” she smiled. “right? I’ve been needing to get the hell out of here and I’ll treat you if you take me out, but that probably means most of your day belongs to me, so there’s that.”

“You’ll treat me? I’m supposed to be the one treating you, alright. Get in, let’s get going. You like a good burger? I know a place in the village.”

“it used to be dark brown! well, it used to used to be red, but then it was dark brown, and now it’s this!” eden tossed it again, just beaming at him, “thank you! i don’t know how long i’ll keep it, but i just love it!”

“Your hair doesn’t get damaged from all that dyeing?” Peter raised a brow, and ran his fingers through his hair, examining its texture. “I used to be a brunette, believe it or not. I just don’t think dyeing your hair so much is really that worth it.”

“i didn’t ask you to look out for me! plus, i have other friends. i don’t need you,” he spat before tensing up when peter touched him. he just raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms over his chest, and scowled. “this is the same me,” he said drily. “i’ve always been the same. maybe you just didn’t pay enough attention like the rest of them.”

“I see, I see. You’re better than me, guess it’s always been that way,” Peter sighed, sitting Soren down on a bench. “Didn’t pay enough attention? I think I’ve been here longer for you than anyone else has in this whole fuckin’ town. But don’t believe me, that’s fine.”

“Yeah man. I’m sorry. That frickin’ suck. You wanna talk about it while you drive me home?” Cayden wasn’t one to ask for favors usually, but after a long shift, he really didn’t want to walk home. 

“As long as I can come over and you order a motherfuckin’ pizza. Think of it as paying me for my services,” Peter negotiated; it had now become a part of his senses to incorporate all his business classes into his daily life. “Deal? Get in.”

“I have my bat upstairs, if someone needs their kneecaps fucked up, I’m your girl, just say the word,” she winked. “I need to go to Bowery, Jarvis!” Kat teased with the nickname, finally getting in the passenger seat, “and step on it!”

“You’re my girl, I hope I don’t need to say any words,” He chuckled, getting out of the car and holding the passenger door open for her. “Bowery? Manhattan’s far, but I’d be down for some nice food.”

Sofia slipped into the passenger seat with an annoyed huff. “I’m not asking you to be my Uber, man. I ain’t even ask you to stop, remember? You’re the one who pulled over. Offered a lift, right?” She didn’t know whether she was more annoyed that he car wouldn’t start or more annoyed with this guy.

“I was just being nice to you in there,” He retorted, clearly annoyed with the girl. “If you change your mind, the bus stop’s that way.” He pointed to the end of the road, where the long line was forming.

cayden: did you really think I was revealing my soul to you? cayden: that’s kind of a bummer for you, man.
