Kinda vague but what do you headcanon Bob & John’s music tastes to be? I personally go somewhat basic and say Bob is grungy (My Sister’s Machine, Dandelion) and John is more soft (Emmylou Harris, The Carpenters). Very stereotypical ‘man from the 90’s likes rock, southern man likes country’.

hii i don't think u overexplained it i like hearing ur thoughts! 🥰 and i'm going to overexplain this too anyway lol because i don't have super specific headcanons for their music tastes so i can't give like a list of artists (especially because our tastes don't entirely overlap lol) but i do have some general feelings about their music tastes and also headcanons surrounding why i see those for them in general so...
bob i think didn't really listen to music as a kid. some people use music as an escape but for bob, playing music on speakers led to abuse and wearing headphones (and consequently not hearing his father) made it worse. when he moved out as a young teen he went into his rebellious grungy phase and listened to mostly grunge, rock, and metal. probably lots of late 90s and early 00s stuff since he's around 30 in thunderbolts (set in 2027) so he would've been born around '97 (assuming he wasn't blipped). he pretty much stuck to that music taste for years especially since it was popular in the circles that he ran in at that time in his life.
after thunderbolts, i think bob still listens to that kind of music and probably has a couple of bands/artists he's a particularly big fan of but he also branches out into softer indie music and lofi. admittedly stuff that he would have made fun of before he got clean. the softer indie music is the kind with gentle singing and minimal instruments. he finds it's better to listen to when he's overstimulated or trying to relax. the lofi is more what he turns on for background noise when he's reading or playing one of his cozy games. just chill music that makes him happy.
john on the other hand listened to a lot of music growing up. his dad would blare country music at any and all times and his mom drilled too many church songs into him. he never cared for the church songs and some of the country grated on his nerves (specifically the stuff that his dad liked the most, he would later realize) but he also did like a lot of it. his music secret as a kid was that he actually liked country pop the most which his dad always said was "for girls" and "not real country."
as an adult, he definitely embraces more of what he actually enjoys listening to. he'd lie in the military and name his dad's favorites as his but olivia and lemar knew his real favorites and he had no problems singing along at home. after thunderbolts, he does still listen to some classic country. it's comforting and he enjoys it. but he also likes more modern country pop. but country isn't all he likes. his new music secret is that he is the person in the tower who keeps playing lady gaga and dua lipa and tove lo really loud when he thinks that no one else is home.
