Talking was the last thing that Tyler wanted to do. Her head was already pounding, the thud of built up pressure not letting up at all since her last fight. Whatever stress Emmy was about to lay on her would inevitably only make it worse. Ty was prepared to get right up out of her seat to go dive down in the water, but the stiffness in her body had her moving far slower than she would have liked. By the time she'd shifted her feet down to the ground to escape to the water, Emmy was already up and in the seat next to her. "I feel like I probably would prefer to sink to my untimely death first. Before the talking," she suggested. It was a fruitless endeavor and she knew it, but she had to at least mount the protest.
Ty's hands were gripped around the chair, one on either side of her legs as she braced herself for Emmy's news. There were a million things it could have been, but what ultimately came out of Emmy's mouth wasn't at all what Ty would have expected. Her eyes blinked a few times after Emmy spoke, brain trying to make sense of the words. A baby. There was only one thing it could mean, but Tyler was instead trying to find any other possible explanation for what a baby was. "What?" was all she ultimately was able to respond with, her brain short-circuiting with no other reasonable explanation. Emmy's marriage to Ver had been bad enough, changing things in a way that Tyler still felt she was trying to navigate. A baby was a different thing entirely, a thing that would only change things more than they already were. "Did she go fuck around and get pregnant? What the fuck?"

If Emmy knew any better, she'd think the situation she found herself in at the moment was similar to telling a kid you already had that they were going to be a sibling even though they desperately didn't want to. She was neither a sibling or had any other kids to have that experience with, so she could only make assumptions on what that felt like. She knew telling her best friend was going to be tough, that there was a reason why she waited until they'd actually conceived to tell the woman anything. What she didn't expect was how much she was going to have to spell it out for her β but, of course she would have to, especially when this was the other's first time being presented with the information. How was she expected to just know what was happening without Emmy having to utter another word and thinking they could just go about their merry way now that the words she did choose to utter were out in the open.
Taking in a breath with her brow furrowing once more, she shook her head. "What? No, she didn't..." A few blinks of disbelief later, as though the simple idea of Ver fucking around with anyone and getting knocked up was the most wild idea despite their history, Emmy explained to Tyler, "It's not... Ver. I mean, it is, but it's not. It's her egg, but it's not her." She'd never felt this at a loss for words, even though she came into the situation semi-confident, that was quickly waning as she caught the look in Ty's expression. "It's me. I'm pregnant... which sounds insane to say out loud. We started talking about it a year ago and decided to try it out and we were kind of expecting to have more time, but it turns out it took on the first try so." The whole conversation made her skin crawl; was it possible to disappear just as her mother had already? Despite the baby being a barely formed parasite inside of her? "I know I should have told you earlier, but we both know you would have talked me out of it and this isn't something I wanted to be talked out of."
