their beggining wouldn’t be much different from the canon, but they became closer after they found out their families were both from south america, in a strange way

but they also understand why they have all that rivalry from the beggining. it wasn’t only for poseidon and athena, but also for brazil and argentina

latinos usually greet people - people they know and people they’ve never met - with kisses on the cheek. when they met and percy greeted annabeth like this she was kinda surprised - but that also called her attention to that boy. percy is all like ‘oh sorry, i didn’t mean to -’ and she replied ‘no, no. it’s fine. i’m actually used to it’. they talk and find out they’re from brother countries

btw, talking about cheek kisses: here in brazil, the number of kisses used in a greeting varies. it depends on where you’re from. if you’re from rio, for example, it’s 2 kisses, one on each cheek. some places people use 3 or just 1. annabeth and percy struggle a little at first, cause they got confused on how many kisses the other use in a greeting. but eventually they got it

btw brazilians are very affectionate. we hug a lot. even people that are kind of strangers - a friend of your friend, for example. and argentines are also like that, but a little less. annabeth leaves all hugs and affection to people that are important to her. especially to percy

also, it’s very common to brazilians to greet people at stores or wtvr with a good morning and a little bit of small talk. so when percy and annabeth are getting coffee somewhere, at 7 am, annabeth thinks it’s super cute and funny when percy is greeting the girl at the store and she’s a little bit confused cause ?

there are not many latino children at camp half-blood, but the little bunch that’s there think that annabeth is a little bit presumptuous because argentines have a reputation for believing themselves are superior and as annabeth is not in the mood to try to change that, she just lets it be

annabeth is always muttering things in spanish, and while some children understand spanish, percy is the only one who can understand the argentinean spanish annabeth speaks, cause the girl speaks with the most difficult jargon

btw they love speaking in portunhol. (portunhol is a mix between portuguese and spanish, it happens when people only speak one of those languages and try to understand each other in a conversation. it happens a lot here, cause portuguese and spanish are pretty close). percy and annabeth understand each other so well, even tho those are different languages and different accents

btw they mock each other’s accents a looot

they love telenovelas. south america is famous for its telenovelas and even tho the demigods think they watch it just to have fun and maybe mock it, the don’t. no kidding. they’re pretty into it

percy likes to spend the holidays in brazil with his cousins and stuff. he stays here a long time like from christmas till the carnival. 2 whole months, maybe more. so when he comes back to ny he has this thic brazilian accent, like when he says ‘hot dog’ he goes ‘hothy doggy’ and everyone is like ‘what' 

OH and he slips into portuguese by accident a lot in those times too. like. a lot. when he’s around his friends and that happens, annabeths needs to translate what he’s saying cause he legit forgets he’s not in brazil anymore ?

another thing: he always use our popular sayings with his friends. but the thing is they ony make sense in portuguese, so they’re all pretty confused when he does that. for example: ‘oh man, you better take the little horse out of the rain, cause i’m not doing it’ or ‘you must pay the duck, my friend. you messed up’. and ‘hey, take you feet off the coffee table! you think this is mama joana’s house?’

sharing their countrie’s urban legends!! annabeth talking about the pombero and percy telling stories about the saci or the curupira. there are even the legends that are known by both countries, like o homem do saco - or el hombre de la bolsa for annabeth. they love sharing their culture with each other

common percabeth dialogue: ‘i love annabeth more than anything’ ‘even more than brigadeiro?’ ‘…….’ ‘and coxinha?’ ‘ok i love you very much but nope’

i finally saw the pjo musical for real on stage and it beamed into my head and made me a thirteen year old again

i posted some here a couple years ago, but a few more:

percy shows reyna all of the best puerto rican places in nyc when she comes to visit and she’s blown away by how much some of the neighborhoods remind her of home. percy and leo could have had latino solidarity like this but leo forgot central america existed when percy said sally’s family came from nicaragua so they can’t have that now

pork rinds are a staple in the jackson household. they keep an extra bag around for when grover comes by. annabeth does not like them. paul pretends to, at least.

sally watches a lot of telenovelas and percy TRIES but every time he loses focus for even a second he looks up and suddenly the house is on fire and carla’s back from the dead and the woman we thought was carla was actually guadeloupe in disguise and sally is GASPING. he’s lost but he watches anyway because being lost is half the fun

percy’s ears were pierced as a baby because that’s how we DO it here

so!! little headcanon where percy’s family is from brazil and annabeth’s is from argentina. i was talking about this with giu - @demidorks cause she had this hc for annabeth (also she helped me with the translating for spanish), and since i love my brazilian percy, we put them together! - that’s cool cause giu is from argentina and i’m from brazil. so: latino percabeth!

anyway: in this hc they’re arguing while they watch a brazil x argentina game. people from brazil and argentina know that we kind of have this little rivalry when it comes to football and well… i was just thinking about percabeth, having nachos, completely into the game and fighting over it cause that’s how it is down here, really. also, everyone else is just like ‘…………what the hell is going on with those two?’ cause they don’t really get it. except nico and leo. leo is cheering for both teams and nico is really into it, but silently - giu pointed out that they’re also from countries where football (or soccer wtvr) is a big deal so !!

-Percy’s grandfather is Nigerian and his grandmother is African American 

-Annabeth is full Nigerian (the gods don’t have dna,,,,right)

-Both of the Yoruba tribe 

-Percy and Annabeth have a neutral agreement that Sally’s blue Puff-Puff is the best thing blessed onto mankind

we seriously need to talk more about desi percy (deh-see, coming from desh --> meaning "land" or "country" in sanskrit; i've also heard it used simply to mean "native"). when i say desi, i mean south asian: india, bangladesh, pakistan, sri lanka, etc. admittedly, i'm most familiar with indian clothes and accessories, as that's what i grew up with ( though, my personal knowledge is a little different from mainland india, which is already incredibly diverse, with each part of it being distinct and unique- any fellow fiji-indians in the house? )

i mean, seriously, the stunning clothes?? kurtas, sherwanis, etc., as well as the more historic garments that men wore, or the more artistic interpretations that some fashion companies are playing around with.

DO YOU SEE MY VISION??? the bangles?? and there are SO MANY different types. beaded, glass, bells, woven.

he'd also rock traditional women's attire too! could you imagine the viel/shawl/dupatta/odhni/orni(etc.) as ocean waves or giving the general aesthetic of water? flowing lehengas, sari/saree's, salwar kameezs'.

not to mention one of favorite accessories, ankelts! pial/payal, pijab, etc. even ghungaroo, i love imagining percy as a dancer.

to say nothing of other jewelry and accessories ( earrings, jhumkas, different types of piercings --> HELLO punk/alt percy using nose/ear piercings in tandem with his usual attire )

or HENNA ( mehndi )?? the images i'm showing are more simplistic, but just imagine full, intricate designs with ocean motifs, or even flowers and other flora- he's shown appreciation for nature and gardens. i'd like to imagine grover or rachel especially helping him with the designs. maybe he'd add nods to his other friends too, little symbols that represent them. things written in green/latin? or even sanskrit/hindi/urdu etc. i can imagine him not only applying it to his hands and feet but also full sleeves ( he fell asleep at one point when rachel was applying it and he woke up to his entire arm being absolutely covered in swirling patterns ). perhaps even on his back or sides! the best part about henna is that it's not permanent, so you can try on as many designs as you want! have y'all seen people adding henna designs on their jeans?? percy would eat that UPPP.
