Just saw a post talking about how people hating on the Fourth of July is a little much because we have pumpkiiins and historical monuments. I think people hating it is more about the illusion of the celebration with the freedom we DO NOT have

I totally believe Eloise & every heroic Bridgerton woman is a "feminist" in the context of the series. The issue with her isn't whether she stands for women's rights; the issue is most Eloise stans think she's the ONLY feminist, because she doesn't Iike the structures of her society and punches down on any woman who gets married (when newsflash, she's going to, too). I like Eloise; she's in my top 3 or 4 characters. But the problem with Eloise (and people who follow her mindset) isn't that she's critical of the oppressive structures in this time period; not only is Eloise judgmental, but she's a hypocrite... Call the only girl, consistently talking bad about marriage and babies "The Hero of the Story"..but she's also not the picturesque feminist that everyone should model after; she's an inactive feminist; she complains & she abides to the same things (even if it's not traditional marriage and kids); she's a hypocrite, who talks down on other peoples' decisions but allows it in the end by the company she keeps and doesn't see the misstep of her beliefs; she complains about women not doing something to go against the system, but then characterizes the "something" as an act of corruption and doesn't make any moves to do anything herself. She's a performative activist in modern times, and maybe that's why people gravitate to aggressively sticking up for her..
