@rararazaquato
Saw Sinners finally, have much to ponder as a white person who has been using this rocky road to Dublin instrumental at karaoke for a minute as a 4times removed McSomething who knows the words from a CD my dad got on holiday in Newfoundland when I was in fourth grade. Much to consider
i'm getting the sense some of you are not actually forklift certified.
well damn . egg on my face
THE PLOT THICKENS @averagejoey2000 explain yourself
I can't believe this is how I'm finding out that I got a scam forklift cert.
I took the cargo ops class at school but my teacher explained that it doesn't give a certification and I'd only be okay for ship's crane and the school forklifts. she said I could take an online exam and get my cert. I paid 60 bucks.
I'm googling and I'm seeing a lot of resources saying that the online programs cover the classroom part of the exam but not the in person practical aspect.
29 CFR 1910.178 (l)(2)(ii)
but I did the in person practical shit at school.
the back of the card even had fancy numbers on it. I couldn't have known that this isn't the one. this website sounded more official than certifyme.net, and there wasn't one with a .gov address.
so, I emailed OSHA, and they said that so long as I live and work in California, there's no such thing as forklift certification. I have to be told how to do it every time I get the job.
Update: I took a certification class in shipboard Material Handling Equipment at my federal job. *now* I'm forklift certified, but only on ships and piers and only for this company, but also rated to forklift explosives and hazardous materials. Also I'm a woman now.
You know, when I've remarked that a lot of the responses to my posts feel like people are just plucking out keywords they think they recognise based on the shape of them and replying to what they imagine the post says based on that, the possibility never occurred to me that this is actually how many American schools are currently teaching kids to read.
Like, my assumption this whole time has been that when folks go "I misunderstood this post that says [thing] as saying [unrelated thing] because I mistook [word] for [completely different word that happens to start with the same letter]", that was a bit. What do you mean they're teaching kids a reading method that's tailored to produce this exact error?
Three cueing. Once you learn about it, a whole lot of very frustrating online discourse with US Americans makes so much sense π
For decades, schools have taught children the strategies of struggling readers, using a theory about reading that cognitive scientists have
If you were taught to read with the three cueing method, and now struggle to read fluently, you can still learn to read properly!

If you're a teenager, you can still use this resource.

reading "death in glacier np" hoping for cautionary tales in the Rockies and what not to do. the author is kind of insufferable though. there's a whole section on "never ever ever ever ever hike alone" despite the entire rest of the book being people who did not hike alone and still died lol
the centerpiece of the "don't hike alone" chapter is a guy with no known cause of death, whose difficult route was apparently well described, and totally omitted by the author except the detail that there were sections of "difficult".... 600 ft per mile elevation gain. this dude is victim blaming this guy for daring to attempt a route with a modest grade and calling it "difficult even for experienced mountaineers" no the fuck 600ft/mi is not. going slower is not the same as it being difficult or dangerous. 1000 ft per mile is where I pay attention. if the author and provided any specific other hazards on the route or the basic distance maybe I'd agree it was reckless. but this guy is writing shit like "rangers warned him about hazards... like that he'd have to treat drinking water" yeah they do that for Literally Any Trail
It is not very effective to try and learn about outdoor risks from people who have never set foot in it I guess.
dude also insists that "even experienced mountaineers" suffer altitude sickness at 6,000 ft. like yes, i know a very small number of experienced hikers (n=1) that have altitude symptoms at 6k, but most decently fit people can go from a night in Vancouver BC to the summit of Whistler Mountain and not really notice. i think it would be unusual to have a problem with that, and i think it's misrepresentation of the risks he's saying these dead people took to insinuate otherwise.

If Ratatouille mechanics were real, there would be a whole market of businesses offering the services of operating rats to people who want them, and it'd be like how bees produce honey. People in the rat business would be so exhausted of having to explain over and over again that no, the rats aren't being exploited. If the rats didn't like how they're being treated, they would simply not return. There's no goddamn way to force a rat to be so passionate about playing the saxophone that they'll figure out how to puppeteer a human to do it for them. All that the business does is finding a way to put that specific rat in the hair of someone who's about to go on stage.
the little circus of Life Problems is starting to resolve
chronic cough severity and frequency decreasing
bike crash finger injury almost healed, nerve damage to fingers is recovering. still feels weird but it DOES feel, unlike before
badly twisted ankle is still a bit stiff but i can run now
new cards are coming in after my lost/stolen wallet
gaining a LOT more confidence at my work tasks after a rough first week at these tasks. today was the best that the hardest part of my job has gone ever even with a complicating factor. it helps that All of my students are a bit older this time though

jesus christ i'm so stressed for him
i might be calling it kind of early but i think i can finally (literally) breathe again
probably it WAS a heinous case of adult onset seasonal allergies outta fuckin nowhere
how it feels to talk about anything at all
online lgbt spaces have always been kinda shit but there's a recent surge of where like. you talk about being on T, or encourage someone who's hesitant to be on T, and you're absolutely swarmed by people saying you dont have to be on T to be Validβ’οΈ and calling you a transmed for even speaking that the option exists.
just cant help but notice how its hand-in-hand with a lot of anti-trans man shit being passed around. you can be a man but DONT take the hormone it'll make you ugly/ruin your voice/make you bald/whatever other excuse you want to do to avoid another "evil man"
feels like none of you all have actually managed to uninstall terf rhetoric in your systems, thinking T will make someone worse
