Her muscles are brittle bark as she swings herself into the stirrups, jerkily settling into the saddle. She kicks the horse gently with her feet, and again, the animal seems as eager to run as she does. Elizabeth cannot coax her into a gallop, though speed is a sacred commodity now. But the wind is a wall, and she bows low against it, steering as best she can, guiding the mare towards where she knows–-she knows, she does–-the road winds back to safety.
Two small pieces based on Muirin007's fic What In Me Is Dark, Illumine where the Creature comes in time to save the Old Man and becomes part of the Delacey family.
I love how Elizabeth's character and Creature interacting with the family are written here and Chapter 10 especially was a roller-coaster for me. Amazing fic please go read it!
