wrote the first draft of my statement of purpose for graduate school this morning. meeting one of my professors todayā¦.I hope he agrees to be my recommenderā¦heās not been shy about implying that he would love for me to continue studying at my university. š
Some pictures from a very productive day today! How are you guys? Iām so excited to be back from my hiatus!Ā
August sixth, monday
Well, some things I have to say: I move into my dorm at the University of Texas in less than three weeks. My classes start in less than four. There is still so much I need to buy and pack Iām secretly very very stressed about getting everything together. My classes all seem sooo interesting and Iām excited about the classes that Iām not even a fan of?? My classes are: Korean 1, Korean Culture and History, Government 2, Physics 2, and the labs for Physics 1 and 2 Iām just so excited you guys, Iām so entirely ready to be at a school where I belong. This is the best thing that could have happened to me.
A reminder for the girls with big plans
To all the girls with big dreams, who have been told that they are ātoo preoccupied with successā, or that they are ātoo selfishā or ātoo ambitiousā - do not listen to the people who speak those words. If you love something that much, and will pursue it to the ends of the earth, do not give it up for anyone. Hold it close to your heart and understand that you are not obligated to dim your sparkle for anybody. In your life, there will always be people who tell you that you are too much or too little. They will say a woman is too assertive, or too reserved. They will say she feels too little or too much, that ambition is selfish. They may even be hurt or offended that you do not think the same. Yet at the end of the day, know in your heart that you are the only one who will ever know whether you are trulyĀ enough and that is whatās important. Go out there and smash the glass ceiling to pieces.

PEOPLE WHO MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER ABOUT YOURSELF WHEN YOU ARE SAD ARE SO IMPORTANT
Sometimes studying is so difficult, but then I try to refocus on small pleasures like coffee and go from there.

Hi, itās okay to study art and film. Thanks for listening to my TEDtalk.
big fan of water bottles tbh. you put water in them and then you can drink it and then you can put more in??? love it
a reminder to embrace being bad at things
because the moment you become consciously incompetent about something, your journey to improving has just begun. youāre never going to know what youāre good/bad at until you try, so donāt feel ashamed and embrace being bad at something, because you now have the power to take the steps to get better towards being consciously competent. and after that, unconsciously competent, where this once difficult task/action now comes easily to you without thinking about it.

I donāt thinkĀ ācuteā is the right term to use hereā¦
DO: Plan thoroughly. Use a project planner such as this one to map out exactly what you need and your partners need to do in order to complete your project, whoās going to do each task and how much time itās all going to take. Planning is essential in order to stay on track, as well as avoiding any confusions like someone not completing something because they thought some else was going to do it.
DONāT: Have a bad attitude. I know itās frustrating when youāre paired up with lazy people or people you donāt like, but approaching the project with a bad attitude wonāt help. So suck it up and be positive and nice with your fellow members. Itāll make working together so much easier.
DO: Divide work according to strengths. Iām sure most if not all of your partners will have a special skill set that will be a great contribution to your project. If someone has great writing skills, let them proofread everything before you send it in. If someone else is good at graphic design, make sure that they design your slides (if applicable). Whatever it might be, find out about everyoneās strengths and let them shine.
DONāT: Use your teacherās due date. By this, I mean that you should plan to finish a couple of days before your projectās due. Why? Because life happens. Some people might be busy with other classes, have an emergency or just slack off. By aiming to finish a couple of days before the due date, you can ensure the completion and quality of your projects.
DO: Check in with your group mates often. Communication is key! Talk to ensure often to ensure that everyone is on track and know the status of the individual parts of the project. Youāll also figure out if anyoneās struggling and will then be able to help them. Also, a few compliments here and there like: āThis paragraph is really well writtenā and āI love the fonts and colors you used. Nice eyeā will make your partners happy and improve their confidence. Youāll work better with happy partners and good partnership will improve the quality of your project.
DONāT: Be afraid to disagree with others. You donāt want to be insulting or over dominate your group, but if you disagree with how something is being done or know a better way to do it, speak up. Your grade shouldnāt suffer because of a simple mistake.
DO: Use online collaborative tools. As much as I love Word and Powerpoint, Google Docs and Google Slides are some of the best tools for group work. You can all work on something at the same time as well as see who did what and at what time.
