Guess who is practicing his swordsmanship while he thinks Souji is sleeping.
@peacemaking-gunslinger
Souji normally does sleep through the night, but the lack of warmth next to him roused him, and then the soft swishing of wood in the air.
Outside, in the moonlight, he saw the figure of Ryoma practicing, and suddenly, he was not even close to sleepy, fully awake and lying down, watching his husband practice.
He wondered how many times he had done this; sneaking out to practice while Souji was asleep. He wouldn't dare disrupt him... but he couldn't help the soft wheezing. After all, it was always exciting to see Ryoma practice his sword for a change, and his lungs liked to tattle on him.
While he is very aware that swords no longer have a place in this new era, he still, now and then, likes to go back to his roots. He was originally sent off because of his swordsmanship... before he got his crazy ideas and his future came barreling towards him... kind of like how Okii would charge him while on patrol... Souji is lucky that Ryoma is lost in his thoughts to hear that soft wheezing just yet
"Ah... no... Father said it would breed betrayal among the soldiers... but as you have seen... they are more loyal than ever... " He sighed softly. "Then again... they are not dealing with my father as their king... They have you."
"So it's no wonder they are so loyal!"
Ryoma changed the topic as he looked to Souji, smiling widely as he pushed off the fence.
"Let's go check on our 'wounded'."
"A-ah..." Souji stood there, just a little flushed as the other walked away to check on the wounded, and he followed, forcing his face to cool down as he walked up to Rhoam and held out a hand to lift him up. "Next time, eh??"
Rhoam grabbed the other's hand and stood up. He smiled and rubbed his back. "Yeah, I just didn't react fast enough... Damn, that Nate has a sharp eye."
"Rhoam, headshots don't normally get up, BUUUUUT I will let it slide because it's his Majesty helping you up."
Ryoma teased the warrior from near the medic bay, looking over the people and medics as they worked. He nodded at the work done before snorting at the pile of 'the dead' who clearly thought they were hilarious as they lay on top of one another. "Well, let's hear the numbers with the injured and casualties. Which squad came out on top when it comes to numbers?"
As Ryoma said this Souji would be able to see the third group getting up and starting to stretch.
"Thank you kind words. As for why I started so late, I didn't want them to overthink their roles. And the groups currently live in the same compounds. Thank you again for letting me use the old servant villages. It took a bit of fixing, but the boys now have their three areas and the commons area. They were a bit confused about it when I said they would be staying together, but it's the best way for them to form bonds."
Ryoma rambled slightly about the off-field strategy he used to help the 'boys', as he called them, work together. He continued to ramble about how the three groups rotated between food duty, cleaning duty, and rest duty. It was similar to how they set up their battle as well. He could have continued, but paused as he heard a drum sound off and watched as Nathan's team —the defenders —suddenly changed formation without a single word, forming a wedge and soon piercing through to Rhoam. If the Staff Saregeant fell, the team lost as per the rules. There was silence before laughter erupted from both sides. Rhoam was trying to seem upset, but as his squad separated, he had the paint in the lower center of his face, and it almost looked like lipstick.
"AH! The dreaded headshot! Poor Rhoam..."
Ryoma kept going about his strategy to get the "boys" to bond further, and Souji simply listened, a half smile on his face. He was so passionate about his work, about how he got them to rally together by living and working side by side. The use of the servant villages confused him at first, but listening to him, and seeing the results of his experiment, it was clear that he knew exactly what he was doing... Ryoma never ceased to amaze him.
But the drums sounded, and they both turned toward the field, seeing Nathan's group change formation with impressive speed and precision, and like that, the battle was ended, both sides erupting into laughter.
"Well done!!" he shouted, leaping off his perch to stand next to Ryoma, clapping as he did. "I'll assume that you never got to do this in Tosa..." If he did... They wouldn't have their sovereignty. They would be a conquered land of the empire.

"Ehehehe, no, not really. You just kinda appeared, nodded your head at me, and then hyperfocused on the men. I was worried I had upset you or something." He said with soft, nervous chuckles.
"So what do you think of them, outside of the time you gave?"
Souji flushed just a little, biting his lip. "Oh..." He shook his head. "You haven't done anything... in fact," he turned back to the battle before them, eyes sparkling just a little.
"If anything, I am so impressed. In so little time, they've gotten so good, and the strategy is so simple but effective. I hate to say it, but it's no wonder we were scrambling as we were..." he said softly. "I will admit I was a little worried that you had waited until now to start training them, but I can see the vision now."

"Ah? Oh! You speak!" A pause "Seven to fifteen what?"
"Seven to fifteen the battle is won... I've been running battles in my head and Logan waves the flag in seven to fifteen." He was still scouring the battlefield until he blinked, as if realizing what the other said.
"I... did I not say anything before?"
"Ehehehe, no, not really. You just kinda appeared, nodded your head at me, and then hyperfocused on the men. I was worried I had upset you or something." He said with soft, nervous chuckles.
"So what do you think of them, outside of the time you gave?"
Ryoma nodded softly as he watched a wool ball spear pop out from the shield line and nail one of the attackers in the chest before the spear disappeared back into the shell of shields. He had to hold back his laughter as the soldier who was hit swore before falling back and to the side. A medic appeared from nowhere to grab him, hooking his arms under the 'wounded' soldier's arms before pulling him off the field.
One of the soldiers was hit, and Souji smiled as the medic seemed to spawn out of thin air, pulling the man to the sidelines. It seems the training Ryoma had asked him to give them was worth it. The medics were quite good at simply appearing and pulling back.
Another moment of thinking...
"... seven to fifteen..."
"Ah? Oh! You speak!" A pause "Seven to fifteen what?"

'Saidani' is actually training the boys today, teaching them formations for both defense and breaking through the front line. There are 3 groups: 1 defending, 1 attacking, and 1 resting and watching the other two squads. A few members from both of the fighting teams are sitting to the side, splotches of color on certain parts of their bodies. Some have the medics wrapping up areas covered in paint. Ryoma is standing to the side and watching both groups.
@peacemaking-gunslinger
Now this was interesting....
Perched next to Ryoma, he watched the training with interest, taking in how they worked and the tactics as a whole. He had to admit... it was a smart strategy, and perfect for the small regiments he had sectioned off.
He would've said something to that effect as well... but he was too busy taking mental notes, trying to absorb it all. After all, warfare he understood.

"Ah... Is that... bad? I mean... I wanted to let you have them with you in your little... chamber..."
Ryoma was excited, and now he was worried he had offended his fae friend... He didn't know better... he was just a human after all. He just was doing what humans do...
"Oh... like companions..." so the soil would give them a place to thrive outside the garden. The pots had a feeling of the earth as well, and the soil felt lovely. He looked up, and gave a smile.
"Thank you... I understand better now..." He wanted Souji to have friends with him. "I think I understand now.." He started putting the soil in the pots, humming softly as he did. He couldn't wait to help them grow and have friends.
O-oh... ok, he had just been confused. Ryoma was worried he had offended the Fae... and while the Scientists before him wouldn't have cared, he did. He was fairly certain he had been able to gather more information with kindness than any scientist had with... their methods...
"Ahahah, I am glad that I didn't do something wrong. I was worried I offended you with the pots... cuz they are containers... but ok. And if any get too big for their pots, we can move them to the Organic garden so they can have more room. As for the soil, I am sorry if there are some chemicals in it... It's meant to help stabilize their growth in the beginning. I tried to order the one with the fewest additives."
Ryoma explained as he sat down in front of Okii and offered the small packs of seeds. He had remembered Okii had mentioned these ones in particular, so he had grabbed them.
Souji smiled, taking the soil and feeling the chemicals, but when he explained, he simply nodded. He supposed it would be fine. They would ned the help in the confined area, anyway.
Happily, he placed the seeds into the soil, and started to wave his hands... but then blinked. Again, he waved his fingers, and nothing happened. What was--
That's right... he has no magic... not as long as he has the collar around his neck. He can't make the flowers grow as he once did...
Ryoma had calmed his mind a bit before worry took over as he noticed the other seemed to wilt after he wiggled his fingers... was he trying to make them grow? He was gonna assume and hope he wasn't being racist... speciesist? He didn't know, but he had to do something.
He knelt down and tilted his head to look at the Fae, looking slightly up now from how he tilted his head.
"... I assume you could grow them quickly... but now you are unable to because of your collar... I am sorry... but just because you can't use magic doesn't mean you can't use your green thumb."
"Ah... Is that... bad? I mean... I wanted to let you have them with you in your little... chamber..."

The scientist has brought some old-fashioned potting pots, potting soil and several types of organic seed for the fae.
@peacemaking-gunslinger
The imprisoned fae tilted their head, soft chiming heard as he saw the pots and the seeds. "You are... wanting me to put them in the pots? Not in the garden?"
He stooped over the pots, biting his lip. "Hmmmm... Oh, but I want these seeds..." he could feel the plants inside, like the start of a beautiful song waiting to be sung.
"Ah... Is that... bad? I mean... I wanted to let you have them with you in your little... chamber..."
Ryoma was excited, and now he was worried he had offended his fae friend... He didn't know better... he was just a human after all. He just was doing what humans do...
Ryoma let out a loud, happy laugh as he clapped both Nathan and Timothy on the shoulders and nodded.
"Good, good! We have the first two of a team set up. We want teams of 15 men and 5 medics, with at least a few drummers sprinkled among you. Each team will have at least 3 drummers that are part of their team, but I need to be able to have all the Drummers know the same cues so that everyone understands the beat."
Ryoma looked to the rest of the men, eyes shining as he chuckled a bit.
"Now I picked Nathan... I will let the rest of you pick the other two Staff Sergeants. After all, you will be fighting by each other's side, so I want you to trust each other, be it the head or the tail of the dragon."
There seemed to be a few people shocked by the actual numbers, leaving several confused as they were given power over who they followed...
Two other leaders, and they had to choose amongst themselves. The confusion, once lightening up, fell upon them anew, and Souji covered his mouth to keep from laughing. This was so much to put on the poor soldiers at once, but in a very real way, it was what he went through when he first experienced the real Ryoma... And the Umetaro he thought he was marrying.
There was a soft fondness as Souji watched them look around, seeing that no one elected themselves, but instead a man was selected, and found himself with a group who would gladly follow him into their mock battle. It was slow going, this process, but the two men finally selected took their place with a mix of reluctance and flustered pride, all while Ryoma watched with that goofy grin of his.
Ryoma stood to the side, pride on his face as he watched his group figure out the leaders. No one picked themselves, and that was good; that meant ego didn't blind them to their faults. No one was perfect, no battle went perfectly to plan. That was why you had to trust everyone around you... one brick doesn't make a wall... it only holds when several are placed together. "Ok, so Nathan, Rhoam, and Liam. These are the three Staff Sergeants."
He said their names without even asking, having remembered from earlier when they spoke. He dug into one of his pockets before pulling out three Staff Sergeant insignias and handing one to each of them.
"Now Logan would say these are symbols of power, that you are above your men... but I want you to know these are because the men trusted you and picked you... And you, Nathan... you were bold enough to question things when something seemed wrong to you... These are vital skills leaders need to build a successful team... Understood?"
"Of course they are for you, Cherrii~! I had to bring back something other than sweets... I thought this might be simple yet elegant enough for you to be able to wear during work if you wanted to."
He chirped happily as he pushed the box a bit closer to the other, making the cool metal make contact with trembling fingers.
They touched the pins, and he pulled back almost in fear before looking back up at the man. With a soft, shy smile, he reached back over, pulling them out of the box, and for a moment, it looked as if the courtesan would put them in their hair, but instead, he handed the pins over to Ryoma. "Danna-sama... could you?"
Ryoma knew the other was just shocked as he pulled back, chuckling softly as he pulled the hairpins out of the box, then blinked and smiled widely as he gently took them and looked at Souji again.
"I mean... If you don't mind it being a bit sloppy... I haven't trained my whole life to put pins in perfect hair."

Ryoma chuckled softly before kissing Souji's forehead softly before holding him closer, one hand playing with pitch colored hair, the other rubbing small circles on the pale skin of Souji's lower back.
"I know, I know... But now I am warm for Okii..." He spoke softly, lazily. His Tosa accent was heavy as he relaxed in the arms of his small lover.
Souji gave a soft giggle, nuzzling into Ryoma more. When they were tired, their regional accents had a habit of coming out more, and despite being in Kyoto, it was clear where they were from...
He loved Ryoma's sleepy Tosa-ben.
"Mmm... so warm...." Soft, sleepy mumbles. "It's my favorite... don't wanna go... on patrol...." he said softly. The more sleepy he became, the more he lost track of time. OR rather, what time he was in.
"Haaaa? Partols? Okii... patrols are normally aaaaa-"
"Oooooh Okii~! My sweet, silly Chery.... You don't have patrols, silly goose... We can stay here as long as you want, don't you worry. And if you do ever want to get up, I can make you pancakes... I love you."
He chuckled a bit as he patted the other's shoulder firmly, amused at the confusion he had caused. They may not understand, but Ryoma did have a method to his madness. Now that was one of the leaders... he had to scope out a few more, but first.
"Timmothy, would you like to be Nathan's core drummer? With your 'heavy hands, ' your drum beats could be heard over the entire field."
Said drummer jumped and looked around before pointing back at himself, before looking at Nathan and then back to the Prince's Consort. "I-I mean, if Nate, I mean Staff Sergeant Nathan, would allow me, then I would be honored to do so."
He was in a daze and very confused as he fiddled with his drumsticks. He didn't know what had just happened and kept looking around for some form of answer.
He wasn't the only one.
Several of the men were looking around and a few back at Souji, who shook his head and directed them back to Ryoma. Something was happening between them and while they were still unsure of how far it would go and just what would happen.
Nathan smiled and nodded. "No one I'd want more, Tim..." he assured. "I've heard your drumming, they'll hear you across the town," he grinned, which caused a few of the other men to chuckle.
The confused air was lightening, and Souji's own aura started to soften. He saw it coming together, and Ryoma's unorthodox methods were starting to make sense. Logan would have a troop of elites, but Ryoma would have a band of brothers...
This was going to be an interesting demonstration.
Ryoma let out a loud, happy laugh as he clapped both Nathan and Timothy on the shoulders and nodded.
"Good, good! We have the first two of a team set up. We want teams of 15 men and 5 medics, with at least a few drummers sprinkled among you.
