i put a spell on you;

“What do people say to you normally then?” Christian asked, keeping up the conversation as he continued to tend to the injuries the girl had received, thankfully finding they were nothing to worry about really.

“That I can be a bit oblivious and miss what’s right in front of me. Which kind of sucks with being a witch, I think you need to be perceptive to do well on that front.” 

“Good to know, love,” Everett said, smirking as he watched her look at him, “Now did you come in here for something specific or do you frequently seek out half naked males changing to ogle?”

“I mean while the latter isn’t a terrible thing to stumble upon, I’m actually here to use one of the lockers since there is none left in the other changing area. So really, my intentions were completely innocent.”

“Maybe you should hex their tastebuds or something,” Beverly teased, “Like you said – nobody likes a chocolate ruiner,” she added taking another sip of her hot chocolate. “So anything new going on with you? Besides figuring out a newfound hatred for people who eat broccoli with chocolate.”

“Are you encouraging me to be bad, I didn’t think you had it in you, Bev.” Penelope teased, wiggling her fingers in front of her friend. “Honestly though, it would be a good use of a hex.” Penelope chuckled and shook her head as she began to comb her fingers through her head. “Not really, life has been exceptionally boring as of recent. How about you? Been having any wild adventures recently?”

“You know what’s worse than that? I heard some people put chocolate on their broccoli. What a disgrace,” she remarked dramatically. “I’d rather die that do that to chocolate. It’s offensive to the food of the gods to do such a thing.”

Penelope could only sit and blink at the other, lost for words with the information that she had just heard, “I’m sorry- did you say there are people who put chocolate on their broccoli..” She couldn’t quite fathom someone doing something so horrendous. “Do they not value their taste buds?” She spoke, shaking her head, “People like that shouldn’t be allowed to eat chocolate, because they’re just ruining it. No one likes a chocolate ruiner.”

“If you can take a run in heels,” Clary said, putting her hands on her hips.

“Oh I don’t run unless there is something menacing chasing me. Then- then I run in heels.”

“Isn’t everybody? Figuratively or literally, everyone’s trying to sell each other on one thing or another,” Amie shrugged. “Do you? Have completely innocent intentions?”

“I don’t think I’ve ever tried to sell anything to anyone, figuratively or literally.” Penelope confessed, her brows furrowing as she tried to think back if there was a time when she tired to sell something to someone. “Most of the time-... or maybe it’s more like some of the time. Right now, innocent intentions.”

“Oh, is that what’s keepin’ me young? Here I thought it was all this undead nonsense,” Rhys replied sarcastically. “Why don’t you tag along? Like you said, it’s fun to do something scandalous every once in a while, ‘n’ it’s not fair if I get to have all the fun.” As she went on answering his question, he nodded idly. “Yeah, that’s kinda crazy. Like, the sun is a star and the moon is a rock. Honestly, I never used to give ‘em a second thought.”

“No, it’s the adrenaline from doing scandalous things, being undead has nothing to do with it.” She teased the other, “Well, I think it’d be bad manners if I turned you down and I rarely ever turn down the chance to do something fun, so you’re on. I’ll join you in your scandalous adventures.” Penelope nodded, “Yeah, I imagine you going through the whole becoming a vampire thing has given you a different perspective on things.”

“You feel awake from just one sip? You are never gonna keep starbucks in their job are you.” He teased, happily taking it back though. “I don’t mind early mornings though. That and late at night are probably the points in the day when I do my best work. Probably cause there are less people around then.” Charlie commented with a shrug of his shoulders. “Penelope? Nice to meet you. I’m Charlie.”

“It’s not just been from one sip, I’ve had half a cup and that isn’t the first cup I’ve had today. So I think I’m doing pretty well at keeping them in business. Especially during the Holiday seasons.” Because she went for a flat white most days, but she did indulge in something sweet every now and then.”I like my sleep too much to be a morning person, I can late nights though, but then again that’s when I can be most social.” She shrugged, because she could be quite a bit of a party goer and a socialite when she was in the mood. “Nice to meet you, Charlie.”

“A few scratches to know you are doing a good job? I’m not sure that’s the saying.” Christian told her with a chuckle before nodding his head. “You’re right though. I am a tree fairy. You’re quite perceptive.”

“It’s not? Well I’ve clearly been doing something wrong when it comes to training then.” She teased, because a couple of scars meant she was living and she saw them as progress marks for how far she had came. “First time someone has said that to me.”

“I know right? A total abomination,” Beverly agreed. “Well I guess that’s fair. Imagine trying to mime out a coffee order though – sounds pretty impossible. Miming out anything looks ridiculous most of the time, let alone a coffee order.”

“As if those people actually exist, seriously. I bet they’re the people who chose to eat vegetables over sweet stuff too. The audacity.” Penelope scoffed with a small shake of her head. “I mean I enjoy a challenge, but I think even I’d struggle with that. I don’t think Starbucks Charades is ever going to be a thing.”

“Yeah, no, that’s not the appropriate outfit for what we’re doing,” Clary said, looking the other up and down. “Go change.”

“What are you talking about, this is appropriate for any occasion. What about this is not appropriate?” Penelope asked, arms extended as she looked down to her skirt, heeled boots and leather jacket, eyebrow raised.

“Oh? Well I’m not concerned. I’d like to think I have a better immune system than that. Don’t worry about it.” He held out the cup to her at that, a smile on his lips. “It takes a unique kind of person to share their drink with a complete stranger.”

Penelope took the cup from the other and took another sip from it before handing it back to the other, “You can finish it off, I feel more awake now.” She chuckled, “But what can I say, I’m a unique kind of person. And you better not forget that. I’m Penelope by the way.”

“Okay… So that went from nice to a bit insulting pretty quickly.” Charlie answered, giving a bit of a laugh despite himself. “I don’t really have any germs but I mean, sure… if that’s your concern go for it with the two cups…”

“Who say’s it’s your germs I’m worried about.” She pointed out, “I could have been ill last week and still been carrying a little bit of virus with me.” She commented, “But fine, fine- we’ll share the cup. That and I’m pretty sure I can’t pull a cup from thin air.”

Charlie was caught off guard when the drink was moved in his direction, eyes widening slightly before he relaxed them again, picking it up carefully. “Really? You know, we could share it.” He told her, blowing the drink softly before bringing it to his lips and taking a sip, a smile working over his mouth. “But thank you…”

“As romantic as sharing sounds- my concern is germs unless you have a spare cup.. Oh wait. Witch. Duh.” She told the other, closing the book on her lap and trying to think of the right spell to conjure up a cup- if she could. “You’re welcome though.”

“Yes, a sixth sense.” He said with a bit of a smile. “You need to take a little bit more care of yourself. You want to survive your training.” He teased gently. “And what do you think I am hm? He asked after a moment, watching the girl.

“I’m fine, I like to think that I’ve gotten this far whilst being fairly unharmed. Anyways you need a few scratches to know that you’re doing a good job.” She pointed out to the other, taking a moment and humming in thought as she tried to think which one he’d be, “Part of me wants to say tree fairy but I could be wrong, I don’t have the best judgement of character.”

“Bit boring but still… coffee is coffee.” He said after a moment, eyeing it up and resisting the urge to drink some of it himself. He never seemed to stop drinking and eating these days, eager to try everything he could get his hands on. He realized that was seen as bad manners though without permission.

Penelope could see the other eyeing up her coffee, causing her to roll her eyes and push it towards him, “You’re lucky you’ve got a cute face, otherwise I wouldn’t be doing this.” She pointed out the other, making note to get another coffee later on when the need kicked in.
