The New Elementals

Finally creating a little lore explainer for me and @lpsgirl109 story TN!E. Before we begin, here's a few notes:

This story's been adapted from a years old roleplay we did together. A lot of the lore has been updated and altered. The world this is set in is one populated by both anthropomorphized animals and regular ones, but no humans. Despite being separate from our own, it takes place during an era roughly equivalent to our world's 1980s. At time of story, a massive war has recently concluded, leaving a shadow cast upon the land and many searching for answers. The following is a summary of the first arc as well as some of the world's cosmology.

In case you weren't aware, the goal of a boycott is to significantly impact the bottom line of a business to pressure it into stopping some specific harmful behavior.

This means that a disorganized "don't support this" with no clear timeframe, no clear demand being put forward, and no organized effort to reach the actual customers of the business... is pretty unlikely to achieve anything.

I roleplay a lot in the community. I also have this thing where I make OCs as a coping mechanism, but I don’t have the energy to give them backstories. Which has lead to me realizing that it’s kinda hard to roleplay as Mudwings because their sib bond, and I for some reason cannot figure out what is the proper personality to give to a Hivewing. Hivewings are kinda overwhelming to me. They have so many different powers to choose from, they don’t have many colors to choose from (which is also an issue with Mudwings, I should add), and honestly I really can’t seem to figure out much about the tribe’s culture that isn’t racism (note, my ADHD found Arc 3 kinda boring so I could hardly pay attention to it).

re: colors i think its important to remember that the guides at the start of the book are diagetic, they convey information the way the characters know it, not as it truly is. We later find out that HiveWings and SilkWIngs are way more similar than the HiveWing government claims. In canon HiveWings lost "silkwing" traits like antennae very recently. Its a personal headcanon of mine that there are a bunch of traits that appear in both SilkWings and HiveWings that people ignore or use cosmetics/ cosmetic surgery to hide. It is entirely possible that HiveWings have way more scale diversity than they claim! Based on the wide range of colors that show up in their wings we know their bodies can produce the necessary pigments.

Regarding culture? thats a little trickier. But we actually know a lot about Hive culture, just off the top of my head they practice ancestor worship (ancestor singular, but still clearsight counts), have a fashion scene (glitterbazaar), and have very rigid life paths, where they specialize their education at a young age, often following a lifepath made for them by their parents. Divorce requires approval by the queen which helps paint a picture of a highly metropolitan culture that values familial elders, destiny (both in the sense of their prophecy-based religion and a strong follow through on one's life goals) and rigid social order. When making hivewing characters I'd suggest focusing on their relationship with their family, their community, and agency.
