Im so happy with how this turned out
People are apparently loosing their minds over Lupita Nyong’o being cast as Helen of Troy and I fully can’t understand that. I mean I know it’s racism, but how on EARTH are you shocked that a woman known in Hollywood for being one of the most beautiful actresses on earth was cast to play the most beautiful woman in the world? Nothing at all points to Helen or Troy being a specific race, she was just Spartan, race had nothing to do with being Spartan, being born in Sparta did. And Greece had very close relations with Africa (EGYPT WAS RIGHT THERE) so a black woman existing in Greece is perfectly reasonable.
And once again. Helen of Troy was the most beautiful woman in the world. Lupita Nyong’o IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMEN IN THE WORLD
Fun fact! In the original production of the Greek play “Helen”, Helen of Troy would have been played by a man!
The people saying that Nyong’o shouldn’t have been cast are frankly just racist.
Race and gender have NEVER mattered to the character of Helen, only her beauty.
You know. Like the beauty of a woman who has been on the COVER OF VOGUE. FIVE. TIMES.
Sure, “myhtical” Helen was likely a pale, pear-shaped, light-eyed, red-headed woman. (As seen from Ancient Greek beauty trends and genealogical rarities), but GUESS WHAT?

Rulers of the Underworld
There’s a thought that during her time ruling alongside her husband in the Underworld, she relinquishes her role as Kore, her duties as Queen occupying her primary aspect.
As well, there is the idea that she predates the stories of Hades in name.
It was these ideas that I wanted to bring forward with this piece, as well as the equality often displayed between the two deities.
Twins of Leto
Wanted to play around with the idea of Artémis and Apollo being near inverse forces in domain, sexuality, and practices, but nonetheless bonded by their similarities.
While I enjoy seeing different interpretations of the gods, I wanted to go with a much more historically-based interpretation of their appearance.
