Another point on this that Ms. Day misses is that Tiger Lily's race is integral to her character. It's not an issue of canon as much as it is just part of the overall story. But Johnny Storm's race ISN'T a part of his character. If he's black, white, or purple, it's wholly irrelevant to the Human Torch. Contrast this with the Red Skull. The Red Skull is an Aryan - that's integral to his character. In that case, casting a black person in that role would be nonsensical.

Casting a white girl as Tiger Lily doesn't make sense. Casting a black man as Johnny Storm ... well, from a story standpoint, it's irrelevant.
