When the Wright Brothers tested their flying machine, they weren’t in complete seclusion. There was a family who caught the sight of their flying plane — and with them, a young boy. Later, a reporter asked the young boy to describe the flight. And he instinctively threw his arms out and ran around making engine noises. So children have literally been pretending to be airplanes ever since the first child saw the first flight.

@reclaimations you’re the one erasing history. Queer was reclaimed as a slur decades ago. Sure, it was used against people in the early part of the 20th century, but the LGBT parents reclaimed it and used it as a rallying cry. The phrase “We’re here, we’re queer, we’re not going anywhere” ring a bell? The word has been part of the positive queer dictionary for years, and I, a person with over three decades as well, never heard it flung to me as a slur, or referred to by others as a slur until the last couple of years. You’re saying that I have to give a word back to the homophobic masses that I’ve been using for three decades? Not only that, but you’re gonna sit there on your high horse and tell nonbinary folk that welp. You just have to use a word for your sexuality that erases your gender. Sorry about that. And what is your replacement? Gay? That’s been used at me negatively all my life, AND it’s not accurate. LGBT? Well, then we have to start arguing about adding letters and what they mean, and it’s pretty damn unwieldy. If you want to throw reclaimed words back to the homophobic masses to use against you, whatever. But leave me out of it. I’m here, I’m QUEER and I’m not going anywhere!
