Tawakkul is not the absence of effort, nor is it a denial of cause and consequence. It is the state in which the servant fulfills every obligation with sincerity and care, while the heart remains detached from the outcome. One acts, plans, and strives, yet does not cling to results, knowing that what is decreed by Allāh سبحانه وتعالى is filled with hikmah and far beyond human perception. When this understanding settles in the heart, anxiety gives way to tranquility.

the day of ‘Arafah is not like any other day, and its virtue is not like any other virtue. so prepare for it with fasting, revive it with takbīr, and keep yourselves engaged in remembrance throughout it. for fasting on this day expiates the sins of two years, and the best supplication is the supplication of the day of ‘Arafah. so seize it like a repentant servant turning back to Allah, and do not withhold generosity and extra care from your guest.

ʾIbn al-Mubārak said :

“And indeed, You are capable while I am not; You know while I do not know; and You are the Knower of the unseen.”
